Reasantly Due South Pit-Cooked BBQ was added to the "Most Loved" status on DoorDash, so today I decided to stay in and have someone bring me something tasty from a restaurant that since my first visit I have considered the best BBQ spot in Southwest Virginia. I invite you to read my first review of this restaurant and view my photographs accompanying it, which was one of my reviews that influenced in my selection as number 4 of Yelp's Top 50 most prolific Elites of 2025. As a DoorDash VIP customer, I pulled up Due South BBQ in their app and as I did so I still could remember the amazing taste of their BBQ food from when I visited them for the very first time on January 28, 2025 with a good friend of mine and gave them a 5 Star review. I decided to order the Big Slop which included a Jumbo Pulled Pork Sandwich with three sides and three hushpuppies. As my three sides I chose Mac & Cheese, Coleslaw, and Fried Okra. And for the two sauces I picked the Sweet Red and the Alabama White. I submitted my order with my DoorDasher tip included and waited for the delivery. Not long after the order arrived at the estimated time with a friendly DoorDasher who delivered it intact and still hot. It came inside one of those ordinary plastic bags with the words Thank you on it, with the receipt attached. I opened the bag in my kitchen and the food came in two see-through plastic containers. One with all the food and a small separate one with the bun on the side as I had asked for. Everything looked so fresh and delicious. Including the three cylindrical shaped hushpuppies. I got one of my plastic forks and placed some of the pulled pork on the bun with the sweet red sauce and still had some pork left to eat with the other items which were served in generous portions. Everything was amazingly delicious. Rare are the restaurants that can deliver their food and it arrive in a similar state as in the restaurant. Although I still prefer eating at the restaurant for its warm and cozy ambiance. Once again I highly recommend this BBQ restaurant and I'm sure that if you try it out the food will win you over and their amazing service will make you want to return back for more. read more

Staying overnight in town and I thought I'd give this place a try. I ordered on Uber eats. The beef brisket is literally half inedible fat with no flavor in the meat whatsoever until you drench it in barbecue sauce. The smoked taters are just smoky flavored cut up potatoes. They are super bland as well. There wasn't enough salt and pepper in the to go box to make it taste any better. They were completely out of all their desserts, even though it was only 3:45 in the afternoon. Probably dodged a bullet on the desserts as well. read more

I placed an online order for an event of 20 people. To order online was effortless. Arrived on the day of pickup, everything was ready, packaged accordingly, the server that assisted me double checked the bags, explained what was in each bag. He confirmed that we had enough plasticware, sauces, seasonings and helped me carry my order to my car. My food was prepared correctly, presentation was great (considering it was a carry out order), and precise. Flavor of the food was perfect. It was hot, tender and a wonderful smoked flavor. We are traveling through the state, saw a sign, and pulled off the highway! We must have come during a not busy time as the restaurant looks like it could get really busy but wasn't! We were greeted promptly and offered to sit where we would like, then we step up to the counter to order when ready - it was 1pm, not sure this is always the pattern but it worked. She delivered our food to the table. I had the pulled pork salad with ranch (pork was really good serving size laid upon a bed of iceberg), hubs had the brisket sandwich, and we shared a veggie plate because how can you not try the collards, green beans, baked apples, and mac and cheese! Kids had a porks bbq sandwich (it came dry and she gobbled it up) and the chicken nuggets were a let down (he should've gotten the pork too). The pies looked amazing but had to pass as we were stuffed. The space was clean, spacious, and homey feeling. Country music playing in the background, reminds me of home. If we lived here, I think this would be a regular stop. read more

I was impressed. Ordered the half slab with beef to go. The ribs were done the way you would expect. They were juicy and fell off the bone. They had a glaze on them which was a little sweet but still great flavor. Definitely a winner in my book. The beef was okay but probably would go with the pork next time. They had a few sauces that I could add. I went with a sweet red but probably would rather gone with a little more heat. Still good though. I tried the coleslaw on the side. Not KFC sweet which is fine. Still good tasting. The hush puppies reminded me of mini-corn dogs minus the dog. I did this as take out so not much to say about customer service. The place did have a few tables and booths but seems most orders are to-go. This was my first trip to Roanoke and will try to remember this place if I ever get back. Their pit master is evidently not aware that you pull the brisket and ribs (I had the combo) before their internal temperature hits 210f (max 215f absolute max) or they're going to be dry and tough. Great experience at the Due South BBQ Roanoke location! I was sad to see their Christiansburg location close, but so glad I got to stop by this one! Greeted right as I walked in the door, guided through a few menu questions and received my food promptly! I ordered the chicken wings with the smoked taters and enjoyed them with the Red Hot sauce (which has a kick) and the Sweet Red sauce. They have weekday lunch specials, kids meals, and note gluten free items on their menu! If you are gluten free, be sure to ask for your meal without the hush puppies as those unfortunately are not GF! Plenty of seating and about two miles off 81! Definitely worth a stop! read more

I shot a video here and completely forgot to take photos, probably because I knew shortly after receiving the food that this wasn't going to be a very positive video. When we got our brisket and it came out shredded like pulled pork I knew we were in major trouble. To add to that, it was super dry...not even the bbq sauces on the table were bringing that cow back to life. The ribs had a ton of gristle and came with a sauce that was not enjoyable. They were even hard to cut through...a major miss for a BBQ establishment. The sides were bland, but I will say the baked beans were sadly the best thing I had. I'll start off by saying I'm not a BBQ connoisseur. I rarely eat meat, but I had a craving and found this place on Yelp because it was less than 10 minutes from my hotel. On a Saturday night, I was the only diner, but it seems that they had a steady stream of online orders. I got the wings and half rack of ribs. The portions were hearty for the prices. I enjoyed trying all the sauces that were at each table. The green beans could use some seasoning, but all in all a solid meal. I first tried Due South BBQ at their Christiansburg, VA location and am saddened to hear that that location has closed. I do not like seeing local businesses that are worthwhile close. That being said, it is great that the Roanoke, VA location is still open. While their bbq is not bad, their Baby Back Ribs are the standout selection. The meat is tender and the rib glaze they brush them with is nice and tangy. Their homemade bbq sauces are pretty good too with plenty of options to try. The other standout item is their Banana Puddin'. It looks like it is a banana cream instead of a pudding, but it is incredibly delicious. Also, if you go on a weekend evening, you might get to hear some live music. My main critique is the prices being high. It would be nice if they could lower them a bit, but all in all, I recommend supporting a local business by visiting Due South BBQ. read more

We ate at Due South in Roanoke for lunch today, and after all the times we have been there for great food, this time was severely disappointing. For $27 we got two sandwiches, one side, one 50 cent container of slaw, and two small drinks. The barbeque was overly salted and in large chunks. One sandwich had probably over an ounce of plain fat--you could hold it up in a 6 inch strand. To get much flavor besides salt you had to add a lot of sauce. We were so sad, as this used to be one of our favorite places--especially for family sized containers when we had company. Then we were asked our opinion on a new sandwich they are promoting. Ordered in person asked for macaroni and cheese and the put in potato salad ordered in person for cole slaw and once again potato salad. Ordered Brisket but got pulled pork instead tastes like it wasn't done in a smoker but a crockpot. What they had in Christiansburg was much better this place is a joke and not going back. read more
