The actual completed work was done well; however, the dealings with Mr. Duenas were far from satisfactory. We contracted to have foundation work done and then near the completion of the work added to the contract that waterproofing and a French drain would also be done. We paid Mr. Duenas $1200 in advance for that work. Mr. Duenas never came back to complete the work. It has taken over a year and a complaint to the State Contractors License Board to get Mr. Duenas to give us back our money. Although the contract included a payment schedule, Mr. Duenas requested lump sum payments outside of the schedule so he could pay his workers. Once paid, we did not see Mr. Duenas or his crew for 7-10 days and there was no communication about when to expect them back to work. I do not recommend Duenas Concrete he does not return calls, fails to meet at agreed upon times and did not complete the work as promised and paid for. read more

I don't normally write yelp reviews but these guys are great and I want to take the time to make that clear bc I do not understand the negative reviews. Duenas had a bid for sidewalk repair that came with our inspection report when we purchased a new home in Oakland. We saw that some folks on Yelp said they weren't super reliable so we looked around to see if there were other companies to work with. Another company with online better reviews (likely written by their friends and family) took weeks to get back to us, were super flakey, and gave us an inflated bid that was WAY more expensive than what Duenas had offered. We called Duenas to see if he would honor his original bid, he promptly responded to say he would, and then completed the work in under a week. Couldn't ask for anything more. read more

Emilio Duenas and his team were fantastic! We had about 550 s.f. of our house that needed to be jack hammered up and re-poured. Turns out it was an even bigger job than any of us originally planned since there were many layers of concrete (up to 4 feet). I have been looking for other quotes but all of them failed by simply not showing up or leaving me hanging for their estimates. So I decided to go on for a small project. He is not pushy, neither is forcing you to earn his business. Very simple, humble guy and down to earth. He is so neat, clean and very professional from start to finish. If you really need concrete work, I highly recommend Duenas concrete. I booked an appointment for an estimate for my clients whom are buying a home. It's a sizeable job and my clients are looking for the work to be done right away. The first appointment I was given, after coordinating with 4 separate parties was cancelled and rescheduled last minute. Huge inconvenience, then the other appointment that was given and confirmed they were a NO SHOW. Again having several parties involved it was not a simple process to put together. Had an appointment today between 7am and 8am...got up at 6:30 and waited and waited and waited. At 8:30am tried to call the number and was directed to another number that was disconnected!!! Double checked the number and tried again several times after 9am and same thing. Why would a business do this??? He had good reviews and I am very upset that he would inconvenience people this way. Out of 5 Contractors I chose Duenas Concrete to perform a driveway constructions at 2538 Market Ave., San Pablo because of Emilio's expertise in the field of works and in dealing with the clients professionally. When you gave him instructions based on a given specifications and yet he executed it well then you know he is the person for the job. What impressed me the most Emilio's quotations for the project was very competitively reasonable price. When it come to workmanship they are working great, very coordinated and polite. We contracted (Sep 2011) with Duenas Concrete to demo fence, etc, and then pour new post holes, retaining walls, a side walkway and driveway. Low bidder, approx $25K of work. The work looks very good, and was in essence to architect's drawings. Emilio's crew was polite, careful, and cleaned up the site each day. He made good recommendations about a drainage issue. The notable tension we had was regarding timely completion. We had some rain delays, but I suspect bigger projects put ours on the 'back burner' at times. Would I recommend Duenas Concrete? Yes. Along with the caveats that you'll need a healthy dose of patience, and that you may have to nudge them to keep things progressing. read more

Run as fast as you can in the other direction. Only hire duenas concrete if you want to waste time. I made an appointment with Mr. Duenas. He showed up half an hour late and then sat in his truck rummaging through papers. I went outside to greet him and he looked up, saw me, and then continued rummaging through papers. When he finally got out of his truck, he glanced at my property, and gave me an estimate on a drainage job. Then we discussed working on another property I have. I needed to have both properties inspected before I could decide on whether or not to hire him. He told me to call the office and make an appointment for the other property, which I did call the office, for five days in a row and got no return call. Finally, the following week, someone called me back and made an appointment for the other property. I showed up at that appointment time and waited 45 minutes. No one from Duenas concrete showed up. So for two weeks I got the runaround and never got my project even started. I do not recommend this company at all read more

I bought a house last year and overall the house was in great shape except for the fact that one wall of the foundation was warping. As far as I can tell, foundation work is like open heart surgery on your home--you want the best surgeon possible and you don't want to cut corners. The great thing about Emilio Duenas is he is a concrete expert and he takes serious pride in doing good work. I got three foundation quotes and his price was in the middle. I thought his price was very reasonable given the work involved. (The cheapest price came from a general contractor but I wasn't sure I wanted a jack of all trades to do this job). In order to fix the foundation they jacked the house up, knocked out the old wall, poured a new one and also installed a french drain system to prevent water from causing the problem again. Oh, and they did all of this in about 5 days. I would highly recommend him to anyone in the unfortunate circumstance of needing foundation work. read more

We contacted Jesse Duenas twice to get an estimate to repave our driveway. The first time was not a good experience as we got the feeling that he was too busy trying to get other jobs finished before the end of the year (and the heavy rain) and our driveway was too small a job. However, because his quote was so reasonable and he came so highly recommended that we called him again this year - and we're so glad we did! This time, he was very accessible (Saturday) and worked with us to coordinate his work with that of our landscaper's. His team arrived punctually, was friendly and worked hard. In fact, they were so efficient that weI added some yard clearance work to their scope. They got their work done on time and on budget (as revised) - and the result was excellent.
