The siding of our house was rotting and needed to be replaced. We called and Jim came out to give us an estimate. He was professional and helpful in explaining what needed to be done and the different material options we had. We went with Hardie siding. They took off the old siding, replaced all the rotted wood, put up the new siding and painted the entire house. The results were beyond our expectations!! Jim and his crew just finished remodeling two of our bathrooms. They did a wonderful job; we are so pleased!! The job took longer than planned but that was largely out of Jim's control due to the supply chain issues during the pandemic. Jim always kept us in the loop, and was always responsive when we reached out to him. I appreciated his collaboration; he provided some good ideas and was receptive to what we wanted. He was also patient when I was trying to make up my mind about certain things. I was somewhat disappointed with one of our vanity drawers. The manufacturer had used used wood that had very different shading. When I mentioned this to Jim, he immediately ordered a new facing to rectify the situation. That's an example of his wanting to make sure you are pleased with the work! Giovanny and Anthony, the primary crew who worked with us, were great. They care about their craftsmanship and it shows. My bathroom/closet& changing rom needed a complete overhaul after a flood and I wanted some additional changes to the room layout. I got 3 different companies to quote on the job and only Jim Pawloski at Golden West Renovations came in anywhere near my budget. (The other 2 quotes were thousands of dollars higher than the Golden West quote.)In addition, the other 2 companies wouldn't even bid on changing the entry for to the bath. From beginning to end, Jim was straightforward, in total control of every detail, accommodating and very communicative. He checked in on the work his employees were doing everyday and answered all my questions promptly. When a snag in the job occurred Jim solved the problem quickly. Project: Convert a 3bd/2bath house into a 4bd/3bath house. Tasks: 1) Add 366 sqft to existing house that connects to existing detached garage consisting of 1 master bedroom with a master bath, 1 more bedroom, and 1 more new bathroom. 2) Demo wall on existing bedroom to convert it to new living room. 3) Raise ceiling sloped height on existing bedroom and bathroom. 4) Convert existing laundry room into hallway and create new laundry room. 5) Relocate fridge, change kitchen counters and uppers, add pantry and kitchen cabinets. Experience: This was our 1st reno experience and we interviewed 8 contractors. Jim was our 2nd interview and my wife and I felt we should hire him immediately but we stuck with our plan to interview the remaining 6 so we can make an objective decision. Our impression of Jim was that he was trustworthy, dependable and that he would be very pleasant to work with-- this was consistent through out the entire reno and it is what we still feel about him. Jim knew 2 of the contractors we interviewed and recommended them to us- we chose him in the end. "It is only wood and nails" is what Jim would say whenever we pitched an idea that was outside the agreed upon plans (a "change over" in construction jargon) and we had MANY of those ideas through out the reno. Jim and his professional crew executed those ideas beyond our expectations. We had a good plan but Jim gave us a great finished product. He was present on a daily basis and showed up when we called him when there were issues. Jim is dependable. All our inspection passed on all 1st visits. Good aesthetic taste: I had strong aesthetic and materials preferences in mind as we went through this, but I also found that I could leave many aesthetic decisions in his hands if I could not be present. Cares about quality: After the house was done and signed off, he and I have remained in contact with each other for some minor touch up and fixes. A shower door seal was not working right, and there was a squeaky floorboard, both of which he and his team took care of promptly. When I purchased my 1940's cinderblock home in Benicia, I knew it needed updating. I contacted a number of contractors and fortunately decided on Goldcrest Designs. From the very first meeting, Jim was punctual, dependable and forthright. I appreciated that he was realistic and didn't sugar coat what needed to be done and especially what couldn't be done within my budget. During construction, he kept me well informed with photos and progress reports. Although it is a small house, it presented a huge job with every subsystem from electrical to plumbing to gas to waste water being updated and the entire kitchen being moved to a room that when we started had no utilities but electrical. Jim had to be part sleuth figuring out where and how things were plumbed, wired and vented, part adventurer deciding how to get from where the house was to how I wanted it, and part miracle worker handling surprises the house threw at him. When unexpected challenges arose, Jim handled them swiftly and confidently always aware of cost and time constraints. His crew was equally professional and caring. First I will start by saying my project was a huge endeavor, converting a 50 year old commercial building into a single family residential. My building was previously abandoned for 5 years prior to hiring Jim Pawloski. I had brought in several highly recommend contractors to bid on the job and almost every single one of them turn down the job. However, after meeting Jim, not only was he willing to take on the job, he provided me a reasonable quote to get the job done. All the other contractors were literally scared to take on the job but Jim handled the bid with ease. Once hired for the job, Jim took care of everything, communicated well, worked with the City to get all the permitting done, and got the entire project done well ahead of schedule. I really did not have to do anything aside from help pick out materials. Its been almost a year later and not a single issue has popped up. His staff are very friendly, produce amazing work and are highly skilled tradesman. We had 2 60's era bathrooms totally gutted and redone. We didn't have a lot of experience with contractors, but Jim and his crew had us comfortable in a very short time. They were all very dependable (always on time), polite and considerate. Jim was here everyday. We had no problem with leaving them at the house when we weren't home. All our requests were carried out, with constructive suggestions when needed. Everything was done by code and the inspection process was seemless (except for the 1 week delay because the city didn't have an inspector, which wasn't Jim's fault). The workers (especially Rosenburg) are very dilligent with what they do and are proud of their work. JIm also recommended that since the bathroom door was being replaced, replacing them all would make a big difference in the feel of the house' We followed his advice, and are very glad we did. He had the old doors out and the new ones painted and installed within 2 days. Payment was done in increments as the job went along. The owner Jim must have changed because the man described in the above inserts are NOT anywhere near the man I had business with. He doesnt write anything down like measurements, billing or keeping his word. Do not use this company. His crew are not licensed. Jim doesnt check the crews work daily. I told Jim errors daily. Worst of all Jim's crew damaged the dining room wood flooring. Jim told me twice with the flooring professional in the room he would fix the entire flooring. Today he said no. His crew damaged the floor moving and ladders, etc. $70,000 later on a kitchen remodel and what a disaster. My new garden window leaks, my new front door makes loud popping noises and doesnt shut correctly. I heard Jim tell the crew "it is terrible" twice. But he didnt make them fix it. There is wall molding Jim's crew removed and hasnt been replaced. Unbelievable. Do not choose this company. Ask around. Lots of remodeling construction being done around Benicia. Never pay until it is 100% completed. If you do they walk away not completing the job. Make sure the crew is licensed ( electrician, plumbers, etc). Make sure the painter uses drop cloths no matter how good they say they are. I want to sale this house. I may have to get a lawyer to help us. Unbelievable experience. read more
