Attitude. I've been coming to this place and it's previous incarnations for years. I actually knew dancing Dominic. From the Hell's Kitchen location. Which in my opinion was the best location. Fuck gentrification. Any way. The two chicks working at night on Saturday have a too cool for school attitude about them. They need to leave their attitude and drama at home. And come to work specially on a Saturday night with a good attitude. I'm an school regular. And this past Saturday. I felt unwelcomed at the bar . Nothing but attitude I got from Jaime and the other chick . And I'm not one of those broke ass hipsters drinking pbrs all night. I was dropping bills on rum and cokes and buds and troopers. Anyway it's a shame cause those 2 girls could easily be my future baby mamas but they just have an attitude. Be pleasant. Don't make an old school patron like me feel unwelcomed. Listen, I am not a metal person by any means. But my husband is. So for his 30th birthday, I gathered a few of our friends who could handle the place, and we went down there for the Ozzy Osbourne DVD release party this past weekend. The hubs had a blast, I had a blast, and our friends had a blast. The drinks were cheap; the bartenders were nice enough, though I could tell when they seemed annoyed at a few other patrons; the owner was scary but once you got through his rough exterior he was nice enough. They had given away the DVD's pretty early and I went up and asked if he had any left for the birthday boy. He was gruff and said he'd check. I didn't actually expect him to but about an hour later he came and found me a slipped me a DVD that I could give to my hub. Awesome dude!! We spun the wheel a few times too, winning some beers/drinks. We even managed to get the entire bar to sing a very metal happy birthday to him, so the crowd is not a bunch of assholes, just a bunch of nice metal heads. read more

Despite the neighborhood and the occasional hipsters you see wander in (who end up feeling out of place) this place is for the real deal, heavy metal lovers and those who can adapt to any environment. It's super loud, the crowd is intense and some borderline scary, there's porn on the tv, the bartenders are badass chics (who are super awesome), and the bathrooms are pretty disgusting. In short, your ultimate dive bar with an awesome vibe. This isn't the place you're going to come to pick up you're next boyfriend/girlfriend. It's not that type of scene. It's a chill, have a good time, drink with your friends, no drama type of place. If you're a girl and you come here dolled up in your cute little dress thinking you're going to stand out because you look soooo good, wrong. You will be stared out Bc everyone would 1. Realize you clearly don't belong or 2. Wonder if you are a hooker. There's no douchebag type of dudes here but there are sure some grimy types. You aren't ordering dirty martinis here and not getting an odd look. I would say this is more of a group of friends joint than just a couple of people and definitely not a date spot. What's to say about "Duffs". It definitely defines "hole in the wall" bar. You'd be amazed that there was a bar at the end of the crowd. Trying to inch your way closer through leather and hair, you realize that there is a bar. A bar that's big enough for two bartenders to keep bumping into each other for every drink order. But then again, that's not my problem! Just get me my drink! The jukebox is always blaring and will just get louder the later it gets. They've got an outside front patio consisting of a few picnic tables and park benches (homemade of course and not stolen). They've also got a convenient Port-a-John sitting behind all the benches. This place attracts the freaks and geeks and the typical hipster who always looks lost with their Ed Hardy gear. I like this place and wouldn't mind living 5 blocks from it. Favorite bar hands down. Extensive jukebox with wall to wall metal and some old school punk rock/hardcore thrown in. I like this place because its all types of metalheads it has a good mix of old school thrashers black metal dudes, death metal long hairs and everyone gets along. Very friendly vibe despite the menacing appearance. Bar staff is very quick and entertaining when it's slow.Only con is you usually have to wait forever to hear your song on the jukebox so don't put any money in unless your staying a while. After a bunch of glowing recommendations from kids I know, my friend Dan and I walked into this place on a random evening after a show and people were seriously staring/ glaring at us. I don't know why they were, but it felt like walking into a Chelsea club where people would just stare me down like high school popular kids. Some snotty kids in Averse Sefira shirts were really glaring at me hard, I don't know what kind of problem they had with me because I wasn't really doing anything. This place gets some cool points at least for having Amon Amarth on the jukebox and because the bartender Tracy introduced herself to us because we were kinda feeling excluded. Oh well, it's a club / bar and I guess geeks aren't too accepted at these kinds of places. I suppose it would be fun if you were all metal and stuff dressed in black though. read more

Our recent visit to Brooklyn would have been a total wash had it not been for Duff's! Don't let the pics fool you, this is not some big club, it is what it says, a dive bar...but what a dive bar! The decor & music are awesome, and you never know who may show up. And, the staff is beyond awesome.
