So I was around Sunnyside recently and me and my partner and friend out and about during the night and we decided to go for drink. Im glad we stumbled upon jar bar when I mean it's cheap I means it's cheap so my experience was pretty great in the jar bar and I'm so glad I got to experience it. So when we found jar bar we went in and the environment was great the bartender was great we were talking to local as well or probably the owner not sure. So jar bar has a special which by the way the price to it was fantastic so for 6 dollars you can get the a shot and beer special if I'm not wrong it's not everything on draft I think you get like 5 choices. But ether way they give you a beer and a house liquor and when I tell you its great experience it is they have a juke box they have a pool table and arcades pin ball mostly. In general the location of the bar was great the only downside is it's a cash only location and as much as I prefer using cash cause I can control how much I spend i do think it's a bit of inconvenience. Because theirs Alot of people who prefer just using their card and don't really carry cash on them other then that little thing it's a great place to drink. it's friendly music was good the ambiance was chilled and I really cant complain the bartender was nice and chilled she was friendly. So if you are ever around Sunnyside and you want a chill place to hang out for a good price definitely check out jar bar just make you sure you have cash on you or go to your bank. If you're banks around go take out cash cause it's a great location and the people that around seem pretty chilled. They also have backyard if you don't want to drink inside of you going to take a smoke I highly recommend the location just remember Cash only. read more

Found a gem in Sunnyside. Needed a place to go for the 4th of July, had no plans or friends with a BBQ. Looked this place up, saw on Facebook that they were organizing their own backyard BBQ for anyone in the area. Went there, expecting to pay something for the food - nope. They didn't want a dime. Just cooking hotdogs, burgers, drumsticks for the community out of the sheer goodness of their hearts. Despite never setting foot in here before, the owners (Jason and Allison) welcomed us like we were regulars, got us an excellent pint of Guinness and at least 3 more drinks (for $30, tip included - damned good deal in NYC). Sent us on our merry way to the back yard, where we had a table to ourselves and were served some deliciously seasoned drumsticks and other meats for free. Chatted with Jason, who has been through some insanely rough times yet still works his tail off for his customers. Got a perfectly poured Guinness to wash down all the Barbecue with, brought to our table by Allison. Easily the best bar experience I've had in Queens, will have to come back. Cash only establishment but (a) prices are excellent and (b) they have an ATM if you need. Stop by if you're in the area! read more

A strong dive bar with good drink deals, a pool table and a welcoming bartender. But it definitely feels like a place where the owner's friends hang out but not many others. Granted, we went around 8 on a Friday, so not exactly peak hours. We were the only non-owner's-group patrons. The group there wasn't hostile in any way, but it made us feel very out of place. (I was also the only female in the bar) The bartender was very funny and chatty and the beer was good. I probably won't come here again alone or as just a pair, though with a good group in tow this could be a great place to hang out. read more

Crazy ass dive bar in Sunnyside with a small patio in the back. This place doesn't serve food, but you can order in. Happy hour on weekdays starts from noon to seven. Today we stop by for beer. They offer $10 a pitcher for commercial beer, and $16 for those snobbish beers, which is great compared to Bohemian Hall. You know which one I picked, right? They do have some good beer selection here though. The nice lady, Catherine who has a lovely Irish accent bartends here; she makes you feel so welcomed. I will definitely stop by this place again. Friendly neighborhood staple. Their backyard patio space creates a very relaxing ambiance and they have great beer & shot deals as well as good pitcher prices. The inside has pool, a jukebox, and some arcade games. They fire up a grill in the back each Memorial Day and Fourth of July which is a lot of fun. read more

I was in the area to meet a friend and he suggested this place to grab a drink. Great dive bar that is off the beaten path. There are other businesses in the area but no other bars on the particular block. The bar is off to the right when you walk in. There are a few tables to the left. There is a digital jukebox and the bar widens out once you get past the bar. There is a pool table with plenty of room to move around the pool table to take shots without hitting something behind you. There is also a beer garden out back which is great for the smokers. Although I live a block away, I only "fell" into this place a few weeks ago. It is entirely non-descript. I actually thought it was a private club house type of deal and so never bothered to enter it! It is as divey as dive bars go. If you want something chic, don't go here. Truly, the charm is in its unpretentiousness. There's no school like the old school, you know? The crowd is mostly Irish locals and regulars, and there is a good age range here. What a great local bar. Discovered this place on Yelp as on of the dive bars near Sunnyside (technically it is in Woodside because it is on the south side of 48th Ave). A little bit older crowd, but very friendly, chatty, and welcoming. The place has a pool table but it was covered with a sheet of ply wood because they had a make-shift buffet set up for one of the regular's birthday. There is also a shuffle board bowling game, but it looks like it is out of commission. Then there are two electronic games in the back but I didn't take much time to investigate. Beers are around 4-5 bucks and whiskey starts at $6. The bartender was fantastic. I'll go back to Leitrim just to see him. read more

I love me a good dive bar - but to be honest - it's more of a neighborhood bar. Which is great since it's in my neighborhood. The bartender made us feel at home, poured an excellent Guinness and made us want to come back. Happy Hour from noon to 7? Kiss Pinball? Good music? Grab some food from Cemitas El Tigre two doors down and bring it in. Or they have a grill in the back garden that we were told people could use. The beer selection could use a little help. Was vacationing in the area and heard the Jar Bar was a good place to take a break and relax from the hustle and bustle of the city, that it's like the living room of Queens. We'll i guess in a sense that's true, it took me over half an hour just to order a beer at the bar with no line because the bartender was to busy sitting at the bar and not working it. When he finally got up i asked why he'd just sat there watching me. He said it was funny to watch me getting annoyed and all i had to do was magically know he was the one working and come to him directly. Guess only locals are regulars are welcome. The rest of my time there, he was extremely rude and in no way helpful. It took asking three times what his name is (Marco or Marcus?)so I'd know who to ask for specifically if I ever came back. I like this place enough to have been several times, but I am removing two stars-- it's cash only, so be mindful of that. Also, their cocktails (I had vodka soda with splash of cran) are made with syrup and low quality. I guess that's what you get at a dive. In addition, there are some pretty shady people that hang out here. After noticing the name changed to The Jar Bar a few weeks ago I decided to stop in on a Saturday afternoon around 4 to see what was going on. First impression was that it's a nice local spot where the regulars make you feel welcome. Being on 48th ave as opposed to Queens boulevard I'm guessing everyone that comes here is a regular to some degree. I'm pretty sure no one would go out of their way to come here but it was pretty busy for a Saturday afternoon when there wasn't much going on. The Jar Bar has 9 taps (bud,shock top,goose island,palm,sam adams,coors banquet, miller lite,smithwicks and of course guinness), along with a few bottles offers a nice selection but nothing to go crazy over. Prices seem reasonable with $5 imports pints and well drinks and $3.50 domestic pints according to the sandwich board propped up outside the front door. The bartender was warm and friendly and got me my drink as soon as I walked up to the bar. The interior is low key with a 12 stool bar, a few tables table tops along with an Internet Jukebox, joker poker machines and pool table and flat screen T.V.'s showing the Mets and Yankee games. On a side note, I think the old school bowling machine game they also have tucked away in the corner is a real bonus! It's hard to find those types of bar games around today, especially in this area. I'm sure I'll be dumping plenty of money into it after a few pints of Goose Island. Another big plus of the Jar Bar is the shaded outdoor patio with a few chairs and picnic table. Unfortunately, the space isn't that large and seems to be surrounded by some pretty unkept yards but any outdoor space you can find in queens to have a drink is good in my book. The spanish music coming from the apartment building behind the bar actually enhanced the sitting out back experience which I found kind of funny. All in all I'm happy to know that this place is close to the old homestead and can see myself stopping in on occasion. read more

The Jar Bar is a really good local watering hole. The drink deals are excellent, and the bartenders are warm and friendly. Of course, when you're here, you've got to get the "jar and shot" deal - a jar of beer (a little over 8oz, at least as I can eyeball it) and a shot for $5. What makes this combo excellent, however, is that you can choose ANY tap beer for the jar, including Ommegang and Lagunitas! Bonus points too for the pool table, outdoor patio, and the quirky Kiss pinball machine. Oh, and it's usually open to 3/4am. Really cute dive bar off the beaten path in Sunnyside. If you're looking for a quiet place filled with regular patrons, this is it. We stopped in early on a Saturday evening and we managed to get two seats at the bar. Everyone was glued to the TVs above the bar, which was simply playing local news. We obviously went for the jar special, which includes a cute jar of draft beer as well as a shot of anything from the well. They have plenty of standard beer choices, but for the craft folks (like myself) they had Goose Island, Ommegang, and Southern Tier on tap. We stuck with bourbon for our shots, which apparently is a popular choice around these parts. The crowd thinned out a bit as it got later, and it was never too loud. There's a pool table as well, if that's your thing. There's outside seating which I bet is great for cool summer evenings. We will most certainly be coming back here soon! read more

1st thing I have to say is this place is super chill. Everyone is laid back and comfortable. From the pictures on the wall to the well designed chalk board behind the bar, I dig this place. The bar looks complete which is different than most bars in the area. Plus, they have a pool table and an outdoor space. This is my new favorite bar.
