Went with friends to celebrate one of their birthdays had a very nice time in this local bar in our community. We saw a comedy show, which was cool a little Campy. Then we went to have a few appetizers which everyone said were tasty. I myself had a house salad with a basic vinaigrette dressing, which was fine and hit the spot. I had high hopes for Freddy's when I first moved to the neighborhood in 2023. It's a very atmospheric bar with distinctive decor, and they host fun-sounding events in the back room almost every night. And you know what? This place actually *is* very cool. I mean, sort of. Sometimes. A bit. Part of the problem is the neighborhood itself. Park Slope does not have a great bar culture, imho. Most of the locals are hipsters and privileged, entitled, snooty...take your pick. They also seem bored with life and routinely engage in mild acts of transgression to amuse themselves - like flirting with you for two hours, without mentioning they have a partner sitting a stool away. (This has happened to me several times at Freddy's, believe it or not.) The bartenders are also a mixed bag. Some are friendly, but the main guy specializes in ignoring me for 5-10 minutes every time I come in while he finishes talking to another regular about sports. As for those nightly shows held in the back room...oof, they're rough. Imagine the aforementioned hipsters getting up on stage, and bragging about the last time they had sex or how many recreational substances they're taking. This is the content of *every* stage show I've seen at Freddy's, regardless of whether it was promoted as burlesque, stand-up comedy, or even a black mass. If you somehow find it interesting to watch people boast about such things, you might enjoy the entertainment here more than I do. As for my opinion...well, I think it's safe to call off the talent search. I realize this is a snotty review - but my gosh, this is kind of a snotty bar. Freddy's may be as good as you can get for the neighborhood, though. At least it looks cool. That's worth something. I came here because I saw all the good reviews but oh boy did I make a mistake coming here. The bartender was so rude when we asked for drinks and when I went to order food the guy started arguing with me because I said I wanted my fries with honey mustard and not ketchup... I've never been treated this poorly at an establishment and for no apparent reason. The music was cool but the vibes were off. Spend your money elsewhere... somewhere they'll actually want you to. Fabulous experience. We stayed in the hotel pre cruise and I saw this online. I booked it for the earlier time on a Friday. I was not expecting much but for a few drinks . Was I surprised. I am older ( presumably not their target market) and was with adult daughter. We both loved this experience. The hostess Maria was super friendly and the bartender Carlos exceptional. He could work in any 5 star establishment. The initial drink, Aviation, which I normally do not like, was fabulous. Carlos then tailored the other drinks to our tastes. This was well worth the money. Freddy's is everything a bar should be. Lights are dim, music/comedy/performances in the back room (soundproofed if you dont want to hear any of it at the bar) and a casual food window between the two. I think I already posted a review but the best night at Freddy's was when James Brown's bassist brought his stellar band of folks, including a tiny lady with a big sax and they burned the house down. We love this bar. Every time we're in town, we spend nights here just hanging out. All of the patrons and bar tenders are great. Friendly and fun. The atmosphere is kitschy and random, but gives a great mood. Food is typical bar food. The fries are amazing. Drinks are strong and cheap! The frogs are dead!!!!!! This type of frog allegedly can live in captivity for like 20 years, so I have to assume the conditions of a dark loud bar are not ideal for them. I don't know all the back story behind this place but when you sit in here you can definitely tell that there is one. Drinks are good and reasonably priced (ish. for the area), and the food is both unreasonably priced and unremarkable though competently made AND the ordering system is convoluted AND apparently has changed a bunch of times AND the person who takes orders/makes the food is impatient and grumpy to the point of being charming, but hey you can get a big basket of tater tots which are all uniformly crunchy and also hot enough to burn your mouth so that's really all you need. Neither too loud nor too quite, not too dark or too bright, not too cluttered or too sterile; the ambient crowd is interesting but not to the point of being distracting; and it's all around a good spot to sit and chat with your friends for a while. They have happy hour and a good selection of beers on tap with some small batch locals too always rotating. They play solid music, funky lowbrow interior, good food selection, outdoor seats in front and back "garden", and a Charles Bukowski shrine (that's where I always sit!). This was my first time ever in Freddy's Bar and I had come out to see my friends in the band Command Z perform a set. It was late so my need for eats was already satisfied, even though the place seemed to be serving up just about everything I enjoy consuming. The bar is broken into two sides with a live music performance side and the bar side which is sizable, has plenty of room to sit and also some booths. As I mostly only drink beer, I found their selection rather nice and very reasonable. The bartenders were friendly and occasionally engaged the customers when additional chat time was available. There was an open WiFi signal which is always a bonus for me since I cannot get off of my website socials of late. Now for the band room. Another sizable space and lined with benches and a few small tables. My friends have a Heavy Rock band so maybe not the best suited thing for the tight confines but they toned it down a little bit and didn't blow everyone out of the doors. Overall I found the sound to be good and the backline reliable. Command Z is a four piece but I think if a band had more players than this it would be a tight squeeze up there. Overall the experience was a pleasant one and I hope to get back there sometime soon to see more music and enjoy some of the eats next time. read more

We first came here years ago for a dog costume contest and were sucked in by the swing band. Came back a few times for drinks in the super funky bar area, where the bartenders are friendly, the drinks are reasonably priced, and the clientele is an interesting mix of folks. We always intended to come back for the free live music in the back room but somehow never managed to do so until recently, when a friend of a friend was playing. Great Bar We stumbled across Freddy's one afternoon while strolling around Park Slope. Thought we would pop in for a happy hour drink ($3 pints) and ended up staying for a few. During our 4 nights in Brooklyn we ended up going to Freddy's 3 times, eating there once. The bar is friendly, cheap with a decent mix of music playing. The food,while not exceptional, is very tasty and reasonably priced. We had the Guac and chips, BBQ Chicken Wings and a chicken sandwich, all of which was lovely. A mean bartender lady? It's ok, a hard job, I'm not expecting anything. I just want to eat something and have few drinks in peace then leave. But nah. It's not happening. Extremely dirty place. Wherever i touched was sticky. I even switched from the bar desk to a table but same! (6 pm on Saturday, barely a few people at the bar) I ordered a beer and asked for the food menu. On the menu it says that i need to go to kitchen counter to make an order. OK. I went there, person who is also preparing the food took my order and said i need to go back pay and come when device beeps. OK. Went back paid After device start vibrating, i went to pick up my food. When i came back my beer that i ordered 5 min ago was gone. Like i was literally gone for 3 minutes and the bottle wasn't even half way come on. Anyways it happens no big deal. I had wait for lady to come so i can explain and get a new beer while my food is sitting there and getting cold. Lady comes, i explain, she brings a new beer. I finally sit and start eating my tacos but nah we're not done yet. As soon as i started eating the tacos i was ready to give a 1 star and leave. Absolutely the WORST taco I've ever had. Holy crap. What did I walk into? That's kind of your first impression of Freddy's. It's a true dive. But so intriguing and alluring. Also, if you check in on 4square you can get a $1 off everything the entire night. But wow. Our description of this is: gothic hipster meets Addams family meets hillbilly meets rocker meets punk meets haunted house meets twilight zone. Take that in for a moment. You have to see it. The vibe and the decor and the crowd it draws is out of this world and undefinable. They have a pretty good selection of beers. Cheap deals. Miller high life ftw! Their food menu actually sounds tasty and unique. Crab rangoon in a bar? And pigs in a blanket? Did you find out all of my favorite foods through esp? Yes, yes I believe you did. There's a weird little board that takes a live video of the orders coming up as well on a chalk board. It's CREEPY AS HELL. And the video screen of the Cat drinking milk. And the montage videos of shit blowing up and other odd creations and observations that will make you squirm uncomfortably. I kind of love it though. In that sick I'm so bizarrely intrigued by this all kind of way. They do live shows here in the back room. The bathrooms are kind of disgusting. Don't sit on the seat. Write in the guest book. I sure did. I've only been here twice. Once on halloween night. So my vision of the bar was skewed for sure. And once last night after dinner. In which case I got the bigger picture. We got there for the annual dog fashion show. Sadly was raining by the show time, so we hang out and played with the dogs for a while in the bar. Really interested in their decor, staff are friendly and give you warm feeling. There's a descent size, cozy outdoor patio, we would sitting there if it wasn't raining. The show was hold outside on the street in front of the bar, with cute stage, some chairs were prepared. At first was fun but became a mess coz they didnt organize it well, all kids crowed around the stage, touch the dogs without permission, people standing there could see nothing. I got annoyed since i couldn't see anything. It should be a great event if they organize it better. We got back to the bar and ordered food.I had hamburger which was ok. I really enjoyed the fries, so crispy and good amount of salt n pepper. The burger was ok but no flavor, i had to put a lot ketchup in my burger which i normally dont do that. Cheap drinks and endless live FREE music where one hour you hear an amazing female punk band and an hour later you got the sweetest of classic jazz bands. I've never had a bad time, bartenders super nice, the food is damn solid, and the bodega across the street makes the best drunk man sandwiches for AFTER you have drank more than you should have. I was a Freddy's Bar virgin, but good thing I didn't come out bleeding lmao. This place was excellent. It's dark and divey. There was a live band and I swear I thought it was the radio! Yes, that damn good. I went there on a Wednesday night and it was pretty busy. Matt, the bartender/co-owner was awesome and bursting with personality. The food tho?! Okay, for a dive bar I was taken aback. The food is delicious! I like the set-up too: order with the chef, get ticket, take ticket to bar, get ticket stamped, and wait for order number to pop-up on a live screen. My one qualm is that the main bar area doesn't have great seating for large groups because of the rigid shape of the booths. But otherwise, as long as you keep bringing out the fish and chips, and special events like karaoke night, I'm sold! Great place with interesting vibe and cool employees. Stopped by on a quiet Sunday afternoon to meet a buddy for a beer. Not too crowded. $3 beers on draft...and good stuff too. I had a Lagunitas and my friend was drinking Sixpoint. I was hungry so I ordered the special tater tots with cheese, bacon and scallions....that hit the spot. Bartender was cool and funny. Freddy's Bar is South Slope dive bar known for its live music and over-the-top decor. I came a few months ago for a friend's performance and had a good time. Pretty good beer assortment; the rest of the selection and prices are standard. Service at the bar is fine. The atmosphere and lighting is nice, and I could imagine chilling in the main room if I lived around here. The back room can get a bit cramped if a lot of people show up, but there was also no cover. Seating is a bit sparse so you'll likely end up on the floor. My friend's band had some issues with the sound system and they also cut them off early, so that was a damper. Bonus points for the kitchen set up in the back with a convenient assortment of fried food and sandwiches. It's not the best, but it's reasonably priced and comes out fairly quick. read more
