I just wanted to say Thank you to Angela for helping us with my Dad's passing and getting everything done w in such a short time. The details and explanations from her were so smooth. It made a hard time enjoyable to uncover the whole event. Her patience and understanding of the loved ones is special and she all about making a statement for the families lost one. It was such a fun process to choose all my Dad's coffin accessories and urn. She worked with the local church to get things ready in such a short time which was an absolute miracle. The viewing the space the staff were super respectful and professional. What a humbling business and establishment. The day we took my Dad's coffin in the Hurst to the church with Paul Barer assistance white glove placement was a memorable experience. Way to go Duggan's Mortuary. On behalf of myself and family we want to say Thank you for running a fantastic business. I'm sure my Dad is looking down from heaven as a proud member of Duggan's Mortuary. He was even featured on their website to allow friends and family to see his viewing schedule. This place has been around a long time. We have used them before for my Aunt and other relatives. They are not technically in the City but just as close in Daly City. The place requires masks to be worn at all times. The meeting room had a plastic partition for the worker to sit behind. We met with Rene who helped with all of the arraignments. Rene explained everything we needed to know and all aspects of the funeral procedure and what we needed. He was very thorough and helpful. Rene lead us to their showroom to look at the caskets and other funeral items. He showed us around and they let us alone to decide what we wanted. There are so many things in here. It ranges from a cardboard box for 150 to an elaborate coffin at over 15K. They had urns of all different sizes. I guess you can take a little and have your loved one at your home. There were pendants and other jewelry. So many things. They help you out with just about everything. From contacting the Church, getting the death certificates, the post in the paper and more. We chose Duggan's Mortuary when my mother passed away in October of this year. Our funeral arranger was Abraham Parada. He guided us though every detail from start to finish. Answered all our questions and even gave us suggestions that gave the funeral a special touch. He responded to all our phone calls and email right away. Duggan's has been around for along time and I can see why. My mother deserved the Best and she got it. Thank You, Duggan's Thank You, Abraham. read more

Respectfully welcoming and very accommodating with all requests but just know that you definitely need to ask if you're in need of something particular. We wanted to play a slideshow during the viewing and that went very well since we had taken the time to go through a test run prior to the day of the event. If using Apple iMovie, simply airdrop your movie (with music) to their available apple laptop then they'll connect and play the slideshow as needed. Our niece sang after the prayer services which was absolutely wonderful. Duggan's had the microphone, required sound cords and podium as requested. She had her own portable speaker which we had connected to their wifi. We had the larger indoor reception/refreshment room next to the viewing area in the back. I heard coffee would be supplied but it wasn't, it was our fault for not being very clear about that request. During the evening that was the least of our concerns since we had a caterer with all the hot food and cold beverages for our family and friends. The entire staff was very kind when I told them I needed to cut the rosary beads. My aunt noticed it wasn't cut as originally requested so I went to the front desk, borrowed scissors and took care of that myself with my aunt. My sister in law had actually asked for the rosary beads to be cut but the attendant didn't tell us that he wanted her to show him where exactly to cut until I asked him about the status of this specific task. He didn't have an issue with cutting the rosary but he mentioned that some religions require multiple cuts in specific places and he didn't want to make any mistakes. Thankfully one of my aunts had noticed this had not been completed so we took care of it ourselves. Towards the end of the viewing service, I asked if a turkey was going to be made available for my husband's cousin, it was his mom that had passed. I was kindly told that while a complimentary cooked turkey could be given to him from Duggan's they also now offered a pendant with his mother's fingerprint as a gift. The choice was the cooked turkey or the pendant. If I had not asked, we would not have known. We selected the pendant and we were told someone would call the son within 1.5 weeks so he could then pick up his complimentary gift. My sister in law mentioned the assigned rep had not returned any of her voicemail messages, prior to the day of the event, so that was indeed disappointing. He was not present on the day of the viewing or the final casket closing day. We were very happy with the staff who was present on the day of the viewing and the final burial day. If you want to make sure things go as smoothly as possible, just remember to constantly follow up and ask for what you need in person. read more

We cannot express how disappointed we were with Duggans Mortuary. Six months ago, we worked with Angela Pious and met with her days after our loved one had passed. She was cordial during the meeting and answered our questions, however, the meeting was long, as several clerical errors were made and she had to go back and forth to correct errors. She explained what our options were, however, the overall atmosphere at Duggans was impersonal. After consulting with another funeral home, we learned that Angela had provided us with inaccurate information on several occasions. On top of that, she failed to return multiple phone calls and text messages, extremely unprofessional behavior given the circumstances. When we decided to move to another funeral home due to Angela's unprofessionalism, we emailed her regarding a billing question. She NEVER answered these emails to offer clarification. We are extremely disappointed by the complications Duggans had with funeral services. Poor customer service and follow up. We should not have been taken advantage of during this time. Would strongly advise anyone to look elsewhere. read more

We recently unexpectedly lost my father. I was lost, confused, and on auto pilot planning services. But Steve M. from Duggans was a our saving grace. He took time to check in with us in our darkest moments. He took incredible care of our father with attention to details that were so meaningful to us. He gave us words of encouragement when we needed them. He contacted us along every step of the way to let us know he arrived safely from the coroners, was transferred to his urn, etc. I don't know how to thank Steve enough. From the depths of our hearts, we are so thankful for his kindness, generosity, and attention to detail. He made this completely unbearable moment easier to navigate. Duggan's was great during all preparations for my mom's services. I had the prepaid plan which is extremely nice, not to have to deal decisions and or details when emotions are high. Everyone was planned with my mom's wishes being respected. Joey Duggan was not only a good funeral director but a wonderful singer, he sings beautifully. The staff professional, friendly and compassionate. Ironically, Mima, my mom worked with this funeral home as part of beloved job at St. Paul's Church. Although the staff were perfectly amiable, kind, thoughtful, and expedient in organizing my mother's funeral services, I cannot give it a high review. But, I do extend my deepest and heartfelt gratitude to David who helped my father and I organize my mother's service. David was soft spoken, gentle, and understanding as we struggled to plan every last detail. David should be given every accolade and award there is to give to a funeral service professional. On another note- I understand, as a medical professional, that there are certain expectations that cannot be feasibly met especially after the death of a loved one. I understand that the body will not look the same as it did when they were alive, and that some features may have been altered by the decomposition process. All of which I wholeheartedly expected and understood upon the day of my mothers viewing. However, the presentation of my mother's body was the most traumatizing event I have ever been through in my entire life. My beautiful mother was wearing splotchy red lipstick which I wouldn't have minded unless it was applied in a more clean manner, the "hair spray" they used was splotchy as well and was all over her cheeks, and her hair was not styled. It looked like some ham fisted individual just threw her in front of a blow dryer and called it a day. I gave our funeral director a photo of my mother that detailed EXACTLY what her hair should look like. I didn't expect perfection, but I expected my mother to look like someone had spent more than 5 minutes with her. AGAIN I stress that keeping my expectations low and reasonable was the rational course of action here, but even my LOW expectations were shattered. It is only because of a dear friend and myself did my mother look radiant on her last big day. I had to reapply her make up. I had to fix her hair. I had to fix her outfit. A funeral home's quintessential function is to provide the utmost comfort and care to families that are experiencing the worst losses of their lives. I did not experience nor comfort or care from the mortician who was supposed to care for my mother as if she were their own. I will never be able to change that day, or look back on it with closure. read more

Not typically a place you wanna review. There was one year where we attended 8 services here between friends, family, and family friends. It was a horrible year of pain and heartbreak. Sometimes Duggan's staff were kind and accommodating. A couple other times they were short and curt. Honestly, even once is too much, guests being treated rudely at a mortuary is not the kinda shit anyone should deal with while grieving, right? Was it coincidental that the larger the chapel and more elaborate the services booked, the more patience and courtesy the staff here exuded? I'll leave that up to your personal experience to decide. I haven't hit midlife yet but this pandemic is an eye opener. If Covid has taught us anything, it's that death doesn't discriminate and nobody's time is promised. Cherish your loved ones, Yeeps! And find a place that will cherish them equally when it comes their time to pay you your final respects. That being said, the poor taste engrained by Duggan's drove us to purchase our plot and preneeds at Cypress Lawn in Colma, not here. read more

When our mother passed away -planning her funeral arrangements was the last thing on me and my sister's mind. Ernest T was so helpful and made the planning of the arrangements and decisions easy and smooth. He went above and beyond in anything we asked from him. The staff also communicated what to expect during the services. Duggan's has definitely kept up their positive reputation throughout the decades and I applaud them for doing so. The staff here seemed friendly and welcoming. Plenty of parking spaces and the restroom was pretty clean. Nice corner location for this mortuary. Using Duggan's in the past we assumed my Fathers funeral would be peaceful but we encountered issues right from the start of walking into the funeral home chapel and seeing my fathers casket open - it was supposed to be closed. Duggan's also told friends and family who called to inquire about my fathers services that visitation was private - it wasn't. At this point fearing another misstep we checked to make sure Duggan's would have a deacon for the cemetery the following day that we paid for when making his arrangements. After ten minutes we were told they did. Waiting for the confirmation just added to our stress level. We had doubts up until the time we arrived at the cemetery and saw the priest. Not sure why we had these problems since in the past we've used Duggan's without any issues. I didn't think I'd need to follow up and double check what was pre planned and paid for on the day of his wake. I still can't get over walking in and seeing the open casket and my poor moms face - not acceptable. Do better Duggan's. read more

When my grandfather passed away (roughly 10-11 months ago) we had a beautiful viewing. Everything went smoothly and Joey was very kind and we were all very appreciative for the services he provided. (This 2 star review is not a reflection of this service) Recently we loss our grandmother and were back to Duggan Serra yet again to say goodbye. Although we only had 1 hour for a viewing with immediate family, it was very frustrating that one of the staff members was already grabbing my grandmothers photos off the easel while my Aunt started her opening speech. Our viewing room was from 8:30-9:30am. But by 9:15 this staff member continued clearing out my grandmothers room of all her flowers and I remember him stating that it was due to them needing to gather everything to set up for mass and bring everything to the church. I can understand that it may be a busy schedule, but all of our family was mourning the loss of our beloved grandmother and it felt like it was more important to stay on schedule than to let a family grieve. My cousin wanted to say her final goodbye and this person continued to collect the flowers we had arranged. It's deeply frustrating to feel rushed out of the building when we haven't spent the full hour saying our goodbyes. It didn't feel like they were being as respectful or compassionate to our loss. Hence the the 2 star review. Do better. read more

Duggan's Has been where my family has gone to for all of our needs when a family member or Friend passes. Since 1980 up until now, but I'm giving them one star because in February my uncle had his viewing there and the quality of service was terrible! before the viewing started we asked to see a brochure, my sister and I, so we would have it in the future. There was a woman on the top floor sitting at a small desk to the right of the stairs, who was not helpful and told me she was busy and to speak with someone else. So we went to my uncle's service, once it was over we tried to ask her again for help and looked at us and said, don't you see I'm with a client! First of all if you're with a client you shouldn't be speaking on personal matters out in the open like that! So with that said this person made are experience less than a good one and we were taken back by the unprofessionalism when we were grieving. Also my mother wanted to have her viewing there but we will no longer be doing so. read more

I would sincerely like to thank everyone at Duggan's for making my mother's services so beautiful. As soon as we visited, we knew that Duggan's would be the right place to celebrate my mom's life. The facilities were newly updated, and allowed us to have a classy and welcoming space to hold my mom's viewing. The space was big enough to hold a large amount of guests with social distancing. The outside spaces (first-come, first-serve basis) allowed us to have light snacks and water for our guests, which we really appreciated. We worked with Karen, and she made the entire experience seamless. She made my sister and I feel welcomed, heard, and understood - every question that we asked was answered promptly and every interaction we had felt kind and collaborative. On the days of the viewing, we worked with Juan who was quick to help us with any sound or video inquiries. Even despite the live stream going out during the vigil, they quickly accommodated us and gave us another live stream the morning before my mom's funeral services. Despite not being in the initial plan, the second stream went beautifully and we were extremely happy that our family in the Philippines could hear our eulogies and see our final goodbyes. Since my review was removed via Yelp since someone flagged it, I'm reposting this from my DEC 2016 post.... Death is never an easy or fun task. Came here for my Grandpa's funeral, hence why I haven't been yelping lately. For a little under $8,000 our family basically received a Friday ceremony, an okay make-up job on my Grandpa (he didn't look great but he didn't look like a drag queen either), and brochures that were printed on fairly cheap stock paper, a powerpoint show on their computer with our USB, and music. There was no police for the funeral procession, and the interior was small with church like pews. We had to do our own ushering, our own pall bearing, provide our own minister and our own everything else, and there was only one Director or funeral person helping our family with questions at any given time. I'd think of this place as a decent do it yourself funeral. At first it was chaotic because people didn't know where to go or who would hand out what, since my family thought we would have help, but maybe they heard wrong since it's a tough time for all of us. So I took over the ushering duties without any help or directive from the funeral home. You get your name on the outside door, but flowers, decorations, or anything is extra. They basically give you a place for viewing the night before and the day of. One great thing about them is that they give you a free turkey voucher for immediate family so my Grandma and Uncle had a nice after Thanksgiving 15 pound Turkey! No fixings, just the turkey but it was a cool gesture. 3 stars for average, not super fantastic, but good and decent for what it was. read more

You can tell a lot about a person who has passed by the people who come to their funeral. For this kind and gentle soul whom we said goodbye to over the weekend, many arrived to give their condolences. Family, friends, fraternity brothers, friends from the military, and the many people he helped along the way. As people came to pay their respects, the place had wifi, hookups for visual presentations, and a good sound system in place for those who had a story to share about how this man touched their lives. The place had a podium with a microphone so it was nice that there was no crackling, feedback, or high pitched noises. There was also a side room where refreshments could be set up. Parking is abundant as there also happens to be public parking adjacent to the mortuary. You can tell a lot about a person by the stories other people share about them. Even in their passing, you can never really know how truly dynamic a person is until the you hear how they affected someone's life through a kind gesture or word. And in a fast paced life that we all live in today, it's so easy to overlook the people we love and take them for granted. Every breath, every touch, every second matters, because nothing can give you back the sands of time that slip through your fingers. read more

I have gone to this place on two separate occasions to attend viewing. Parking appeared full but we never had a difficult time finding a spot. On our second visit, there was even someone directing drivers where to find a vacant spot. Atmosphere was solemn. Public restrooms were clean. Sad :( I'm not really sure how to review this business let alone start this review... I've actually been to many viewings in this funeral home. You see, my Dad is a Clergy by profession and our church was located in San Bruno during his tenure there, a church that he started (I have a separate review for the church). The church has seen many members come and go... and I mean go as in pass away. My Dad would sometimes be the one to accompany the families to set-up the arrangements with Cleo, the funeral director. My Dad actually gave Duggan's a lot of business by referral including his own son, my brother. If they are reading this review they will be familiar with our last name, Arenas. Many times too my Dad would officiate the services for his church members in their viewing rooms. There's plenty of parking and the facility itself is nice and welcoming. Duggan's is a family owned business. They have a dedicated staff that will treat loved ones with dignity and respect that they deserve. Up until recently when my own Dad passed away (March this year) did I experience how professional they are in serving the families. They knew my Dad really well and the staff that knew him had great respect for him. We did have a private family viewing for a couple of hours in one of the suites before he was brought to his church in San Bruno. Matt and his fellow staff members from the funeral home made sure everything was serviced well for our loved one. I want to thank Duggan's for the compassionate and professional service they gave both my brother [1998] and father [2015], for giving their high standard of service from beginning to end. I have mixed feelings about Duggan's. The day of my father in laws funeral, they were very attentive and caring. But the process of putting together the funeral and package felt a bit like buying a used a car. They actually used terms like, " I think your father would really have wanted this" when trying to upsell things. In the end we went pretty simple, but reserved their large reception room as we have a very large family and my father in law spent his life volunteering and mentoring, so he touched a lot of people. We thought everything was set until 3 days before the funeral we found out the gave someone else the room! We had it first, why wouldn't they call them to tell them they made a mistake? Oh, probably because these people spent more money than us. We had a contract. And they broke it. On top of that, they can't just give the credit back to your card for the cost, they have to mail a check...which we still don't have. We had to scramble and find another place to host. The place we found had very limited parking and was way too small. We were like sardines in this facility. Everyone was sweating and there weren't enough seats. It was a stress we didn't need and could have been avoided. I'm really disappointed in how that went down and definitely feel that they put money over contract. read more

Samual was my point of contact to arrange a Priest and Army personnel for Taps, he worked very hard on the front end to make sure that the type of service that I was looking for was met.. On the day of service, Armando was our point of contact from Duggan's and he worked very hard during the service to keep it smooth, work out any changes that I was requesting and contributed to a respectful and enjoyable experience for my family as well as the folks who attended. They made a difficult situation easier to work through and I cannot thank them enough, we will remember the wonderful experience for a lifetime. read more

Just wanted to make sure to make a review. We went to Duggan's Serra Mortuary a couple of weeks ago because my grandmother passed away. As soon as we went in, we were helped by someone. For our appointment, we were assigned to Abraham. Abraham was so nice and professional. He prepared us and helped make my grandma's service very beautiful. Abraham asked us questions and was very patient with our questions and concerns. He listened to everything we had to say. We told him we wanted a Spanish speaking priest, mass and singer. He was able to get us all the people we needed in Spanish. The priest and deacon were wonderful. The singer had such a beautiful voice at church. The coffin was also very beautiful. I am so happy that we were able to give my grandma what she deserved. Thank you so much Abraham and employees at Duggan's Serra. I also want to give a shout out to the person from Duggan's who helped us at the cemetery (I forgot his name) but he was also super nice and helpful. My moms services were through duggans and months later I got a letter and tiny packet of seeds to plant. It was a minor thing but it touched me and I appreciated it. They seem to offer the same services as others but at more affordable prices. While I think the entire business of funerals is highway robbery in people's worst moment... I think I would recommend them over others. read more

I feel weird reviewing a place like this, but having been here numerous times for my Grandparent's, and my great Aunt's funeral, I do have to come on here to say how amazing their staff is. Unfortunately had to come here to make my mothers arrangements. I came here as I had used them previously for other family members and had never had a problem. However this time I really felt like they did a horrible job, I understand their was a mess up from my mom's health care provider on providing the signature for the death certificate. But Duggan's overall communication was non existent. It took almost two and a half weeks for the cremation to be done and they never communicated with the family at all as to what the hold up was. On top of that the person answering the phones was very rude and really had a cold way about her you would think that a place dealing with death would have employee's a bit more sympathetic. I mean I just lost my mom and do not need the attitude that Karen gave us when we called. I will never recommend this place or use them again. read more
