Have been going to Duink farms in Hamburg for 10 years.In that time we have had only consistent quality beef chicken pork vegetables and eggs.Never had problem with packaging,it is of a much higher standard than a grocery store.The level of cleanliness quality and ethics you don't find.As for the hours, it is only two days a week, but he is very reliable and keeps constant schedule. Having a small local farm to purchase meat from rather than grocery store factory farm meat is great.Also you will not find a better tasting tomato anywhere. read more

Been going to Duinks for years. Great products, hard working farmer who is a throw back to a time when transactions were done with trust and a handshake. Walking into the 'meat shed' one finds a more gentle world with often a crockpot of samples to try, coffee, just picked vegetables and always an interesting conversation with Darryl on food and health, often accompanied with a book recommendation. Anyone who has not raised their own animals for food nor run their own farm with the constant need for upkeep and money, repairing damage from storms and following strict rules for quality practices can critique his older equipment but I wouldn't trade the experience. A small town family with a small town farm who is concerned over the care and processing of their product will continue to have my vote. Have had his beef, pork, sausage, ham, chickens, eggs and have been very pleased. On those two days he is open, it is busy with customers who have been going there for many years, just engage one of them and they will all tell you their favorites. read more

We used to visit Duink farms very often. We first started to visit the farm about 2 years ago and were very pleased with the fresh chickens and frozen meats. Why not, they were healthier than stores and were great for our diets. Visiting the farm and knowing how the meat was raised, butchered, and stored was great. But over the past couple years, we have had our fair share of issues. Since the time of 2013 many things have happened. Prices have hiked up and issues have occurred. Instead of industrial freezers with comfortable storing, they use many home style standing freezers and will take their frozen beef, pork and lamb products and stack them in the doors and shelves. Despite communicating with Darrel Duink (the owner and operator) this reoccurring issue causes plastic to form holes in them and transportation, freezing at home and especially thawing can become troublesome. The handling is haphazard when ordering as little care is taken and the meets are banged in and out of the doors and against one another. Checking when at the storefront doesn't always catch the small holes that can occur. A roast approx 3lbs, at cost of upwards of $45+ can easily leak blood and ruin the contents of your fridge (despite a proper plate underneath for "just in case this package has a hole in it"). While we found out the hard way with the ground beef, we have also found that in our freezer at home, we have lost some valuable products we paid top dollar for due to their lack of care. When bringing this to the attention of the owner, Darrel Duink, he states "accidents happen." But there is a clear pattern of issue and it is really too bad, despite being it up when revisiting. Despite the reassurance of "our freezers are keep extremely cold" hand contact, restocking of the freezers, product rotation, sale, and transportation home, can lead to cross contamination if there are holes in the bags. exposed meat can pick up physical contamination. It is proper food safety and could be solved by changing the plastics it is wrapped in, and standing by the product/system. It is disheartening when you look at everything in perspective of the paying customer with health issues. What is often offered can change at any time. After asking and being reassured that chickens and lamb would be offered through the last winter during last fall, when winter came, they dropped off the available list until almost May-June. This leaves those that are looking for health reason with no consistency or clear communication, leaving a reliable source for all of your diet needs to be further sought out. What was once a one stop shop, is now a high priced specialty shop with spotty availability and chance for frustration/waste. Furthermore they have stopped raising their own chickens. They get deliveries of chickens from someone else and a number is given to deal with them. When asking Duink Farms about the chickens and the process, Darrel will defer any dealings and simply points to the number and says all he does is receive the orders. By not backing the new supplier and a feeling of "not my problem" it has deterred us from ordering from them. Also this takes the point of visiting a farm that processes their own chickens to visiting a farm that gets chickens trucked in. It totally defeats the purpose of visiting a farm and buying direct form source when it has been shipped in and the seller shrugs when details of who/what/why/how/where it came from exactly (which again, is one of the main purposes of visiting a farm to buy direct from source, esp. if you have a compromised immune system.) We are all about supporting local farms and healthier food options, but it will cost you more in food loss and disappointment/headache than it is worth, especially for paying top dollar at source. It is also extremely frustrating (depending on your schedule) to make the 2 days - limited hours of availability to visit the storeroom and no option for scheduling a visit outside of those times.
