All of Niagara's finest farmed products on out and on display. The Harvest Barn is a great alternative to fast food lunchtime ventures. The food tastes great and you feel healthy after eating - what a concept! The Harvest Barn also serves as a great alternative to the supersized Mega-grocery stores which are all too commonly found in suburban cities across North America (which also tend to import their produce from all over instead of fresh, locally grown food). Outside they have picnic tables if you feel like enjoying the sunshine, and also a small kids play area (ie. small wooden train) which is great for distracting the little rascals or hyperactive adults. They also have Fruit Baskets, Deli Trays, and Sandwich Platters. I've never had the pleasure of having any, but I wouldn't hesitate in ordering seeing as everything else I've tried has been pretty fantastic. The bottom line, I highly recommend the Harvest Barn because it's healthy, locally grown food and they take pride in the quality of service that they provide (and it shows).

I just popped by on Wednesday and there were 8 or 9 farmers with delicious, fresh produce! Hooray! I believe the market goes Mon, Wed, and Fridays from 9:00-noon but don't quote me. What could give the market a 5th star? More vendors that compliment the farmers (like bakers), consistency (apparently you never know who will be there), and engaging and drawing from the neighborhood directly surrounding the City Market (ok - to be fair this is a bigger undertaking then they could do alone). I ended up leaving with a Blade roast, a Beef brisket and a Corned Beef roast from a barrel. Needless to say I'll be back again soon for something else to enjoy making - in 3 days I've already cooked a corned beef dinner and a Chinese Beef Brisket stew with Daikon Radish. We loved perusing all the specialty cheeses and chatting with the employees. We ordered the classic grilled cheese with the house blend of 7 cheeses ( 7 CHEESES!) and it was glorious. We also had some specialty sodas and ate at the bar so we could converse and listen to all the folks checking out different cheeses. Everyone there is so knowledgeable and excited to share what they know. We will come back next time we are in town, and would love to have them help us curate a charcuterie board!
