I am so tired of Duke Energy doing whatever they want to. I entered two contracts with these SOBs, the first was the equal pat program where you pay one amount like 102.00 a month for 12 months and at the end of the program you get a higher bill if you paid too little or get a credit if you paid to much and the other was an installment plan due to falling behind due to Covid both are legally binding contracts and because I paid up to the point of having a credit they threw me out of both and took the credit that they had no right to take at this time and when I talk to customer service about this they tell me they don't know why they did that and they have no way for me to contact someone that can tell me. The Company has become Bullies of the block since the restrictions due to COVID has been lifted and unless I sell my home and move to a state that doesn't use Duke I'm stuck. It used to be we value you as a customer, to now we have you by the short hairs and there is nothing you can do, so fuck you............. read more

Duke Energy's online interface like many others have noted on here is a joke and is barely able to be navigated through, additionally they will do whatever they can to charge / overcharge you while at the same time pretending to care and send you pamphlets on how you are using your energy and tips to save, it's a real jekyl and hyde approach. One of the reasons I am glad to have moved from Cincy to Columbus Ohio is to be out from under the thumb of Duke Energy, good luck if you are a potential customer and try to hang in there if currently associated with them. read more

Did you know you are a part of their "Electric Customer Choice Program?" Well congrats - you are! This program allows Duke to sell your information to solicitors that have products and services you might be interested in! So if you felt like you needed a little more spam in your life - Duke is there to help. They offer options to opt out, like a phone number that has terrible hours, a menu that doesn't even mention the program, and no automated way to opt-out. If you're luck you get ahold of someone who knows nothing about this program. What about doing it by email or the website you ask? Poor newbie, you clearly haven't spent enough time with Duke energy to know that is a ridiculous question and a certain dead-end. read more

Well they finally came out and trimmed the branches from the trees. However Instead of cutting the the main branch at the trunk, they decided cut everything that grew into the lines. Now I am stuck with a tree that still has the main branch that in a few years will grow back into the lines again. I guess I will need to pay a tree removal service to finish what Duke wouldn't complete. read more

WORST power company EVER! ZERO customer service and the rates are the highest in Florida !

If I could give a 0 I would. Prematurely turned our power off a week early because we are switching our services to another house. Been without power for 10 hours, spoke to 3 customer service representatives to get it turned back on. The 3rd customer service representative informed us there was no proof of communication therefore we had been waiting all day for no one to come. Our freezer and fridge is stocked with food due to COVID19 and all will spoil. Worst company ever. read more

So my roommates and I currently have Duke Energy and just got our bill for December. Now, being college students, we are all at home on winter break for all but 5-6 days of the billing period. Somehow, someway our bill was only $8.50 cheaper than the bill before that. I called them to see if there had been a mistake and talked to a customer service rep. It must have been her first day because she knew little and was very unhelpful. She told me to look at daily usages online, so I did. After looking at the daily usages, I came to the conclusion that Duke Energy says we use more energy for the months we are not living in our townhouse!! This does not make any sense to me at all. After reading reviews, I see that we are not the only ones that are experiencing problems with Duke Energy. read more

Fraudulent account opened in my name, been dealing with this for 3 MONTHS of back and forth with Duke - sent in all the appropriate paperwork/police reports/etc, and still being told by every representative that there is 'no record' of my complaints/paperwork and I have to pay the collections agency. My REAL account has a perfect record, and I have all the proof needed to show the other account is fraudulent and Duke refuses to be helpful. Can't wait to move out of Ohio so I don't have to deal with this crappy monopoly. I have seen many bad reviews. I cannot say this. I have had a great experience with Duke. I do not know about the how soon they may shut off your electric if your late. I have never been late, but I hope they would give me at least a 30 day period if it did happen. I paid my deposit at the start when I moved in. Then, in the fall they credited it to my account. So I did not have to pay anything that month!! Just had Shipley Energy call me and offer me a 15% discount for not being late in the last 6 months and no extra help (assistance). After listening to the guy, he mentioned a cancellation fee of $75. I am sticking with Duke. Unless that are trying to charge me some ungodly rate, I am good. read more

Tried to opt-out having other electric suppliers call us-unable to do this online, so called twice-15 mins. the first time and then I held for 20 mins. the second time and when I finally got a service rep., she couldn't talk to me, as the account is in my husband's name. They have been perfectly willing to take the checks that I have signed, for 53 years. How ridiculous!!! read more

I requested to move my service to a new apartment. They continued the bill on BOTH apartments. Then said they'd refund the money from the account I wanted closed. A week later I'm shorted still. If you have the chance to use another company do so. Do not use Duke Energy. The woman I spoke to when I was moving was very very rude, did not listen, kept me on the phone for a very long time, and was distracted. The second woman I spoke to attempting to fix this mistake was kind and fast but the money still has not been refunded. If I could sue I would. I have a newborn at home and they wanted to shut off my electric because I couldn't afford two apartments, one of which I dont live in. Like I said don't use this company. read more

Worst Energy company ever! Owen Electric is by far superior! Thier online payment system is awful! For some reason they can't figure out how to pick a payment date and stick with it, I feel it's just so they can hit you with late charges when you pay the bill after they moved up the payment date. This company over the years has intentionally overcharged me. Billing me for previous tenants' utility bills and estimating utility usage in my apartment when the company had access to enter the property and get accurate readings. If I could give zero stars, I would. They charged my account for a return check fee when I have a confirmation email from them that my last payment went through. So far, I have spoken with 3 customer service representatives as well as a supervisor and none of them are helping me. Terrible customer service and very outdated billing system. read more

Absolutely horrendous service. Should not even bother being in Florida since they seem to forget that we are the primary hurricane state. Florida power and light gets their customers back on power within a day or two. Meanwhile, Duke energy drags their feet and makes everyone wait a week or more to get power back. My parents are older and had to sleep outside to avoid getting heatstroke. Life is difficult when you can't sleep or shower to get ready for work in the mornings. This company has no business at all being in Florida. They should stick to smaller states with less people since they cannot seem to handle a state like Florida. When we tell people we are the last to get power back after a hurricane, most people have the initial reaction of saying, "Let me guess... Duke energy?" Everyone in Florida knows how shameful this company is and no one that I know has anything good to say about them. They also will not answer phone calls. They have an automated robot answer because they're too cowardly to explain to their customers that they'll have to deal with getting heatstroke because they're too lazy to do their job right. Terrible customer service! I pay almost all of my bills online and this one is no exception. I've been trying to pay this bill for 4 days now and their website has been down. I finally call to pay over the phone so it's not late and they refuse to waive the fee for paying over the phone. The rep gave me some BS about it being assessed via a third party. I told her I was uninterested in her excuses and asked to speak to a supervisor who refused to get on the phone! The fee in nominal but it's about principal. Absolute gangsters and scumbags, your bill is late theyll cut it off the same week, they claim that they have to send someone out so theyll charge you an arm and a leg for the reconnection fee. They don't send anyone out, they do it from their offices. Expect arbitrary rate hikes and demands for deposits fees are unreal. If you don't want them TOO BAD they own the grid and they won't ever sell it. When more respectible companies like Florida Power and Light try to but their service areas Duke goes like a whiney little bitch to Tallahassee and lobbies against the cheaper more flexable companies claiming monopoly. If there were other options I would be receiving services with another provider in a heartbeat. I called to set up services and was forced into a 25 minute phone call "offering" me deals with other providers. I informed the representative that I didn't want to set up any additional services through partners of Duke and she REFUSED to stop going through the options. I was told that I was transfered just to "confirm" my information and service start date and it turned into an infuriating, never ending sales pitch where regardless of what I said she continue to read her pitch. Duke energy has the WORST customer service. I called regarding my rental property and having issues adding a new form of payment online. The male representative wouldn't not help me at all so I escalated to a supervision who was just as bad. If that female acted the way she did at my company she wouldn't have a job. She was rude, cut me off and still would not help with adding my form of payment. If I had the choice to switch, I would in a heart beat. Our power is often out with duke and repair times are variable. WTF!! First it's hours then it's 8 hours. They SUCK

This morning I received a bill from Duke Energy for $400.10. I have NEVER had this high of a bill. I called Duke this am [5/18/18]. The lady I spoke to said for X amount of months my service/services have been estimated. I'm not okay with this. If I wanted an estimate I would have chose even billing. As this bill is an estimate, I don't trust Duke has charged me correctly and I'm disputing the charges. The lady said for the previous month, I owe $174.01 which I'm okay paying if that's what I truly owe but then I'm left with an unexpected bill of $226.09. Plus for about the last month, I have not used the gas going to my furnace because my furnace has been broke and off. Duke energy should not get away with pulling this shit because it's not okay. I'm also sending this complete to local media. We need better options for utilities. read more

I've lived in many different cities and even out of the country and I have NEVER experienced so much incompetence from customer service in my life. I spent hours on the phone on multiple occasions trying to get them to explain to me how my bill could go up over $80 on the month when I spent 21 out of 31 days away from my home with no A/C turned on or anything plugged up. The previous tenant only paid between $60-$80 per month and I was paying $197 per month for over 14 months until I decided to move. The last 3 out of 4 months on my lease the bill continued to increase and I was barley home because I travel for work. They provided no insight on how to come to a solution. In fact, it was me who was suggesting ways to solve the problems just from basic overall knowledge. They swore up and down that there was no possible way the meters could be wrong since they were all digital. When I cancelled my service I got hit with a $400+ final bill... I never thought an energy company could be so terrible at what they do. Btw, Yelp should offer a zero star button....just a thought. read more

Rates are really high, and god fobid if you try to find an office in Cincinnati. You talk to representatives in other states and half the time they can't find you as ever being a customer. I think it's sad that a company this big has such troubles as not having someone to look up an account the correct way. I would much rather be with a company who knows who I am or who they are. Terrible customer service, and unfortunately, they have a strangle-hold on utilities in this area. They say they offer pilot light services, which one would think is a helpful service. However, the technician sent out to light my furnace pilot deemed it was 'unsafe' for him to light my pilot as my furnace is in my attic crawlspace. No other person who has done any work on my furnace has had a problem. I should note, the technician was overweight, and I believe his was his actual reason for declining to attempt to light my pilot. Now, because one technician would not light the pilot, they will send no technicians out. read more

I was a loyal duke customer, paid my full bill every month on time and never late. I cancelled my services when I moved and asked if I needed to be present when they disconnected the service and I was told NO. Come to find out, the Duke personnel did NOT turn off my gas. I got a bill for $0 and called in to inquire when I would receive my deposit back, and I was told the tech could not get into my building because the door was locked. Funny thing is, both front doors don't even close, therefore there is no way for them to be locked. I let them know this, and was informed that everything would be taken care of. I received another bill for $0 and again called to inquire about receiving my deposit back. I was informed the gas was still on and no one went out to shut it off. Duke finally was able to turn off the gas, but all of a sudden i was billed $90.00 because my gas was never turned off and Duke charges $33 a month whether or not you use any gas. I don't see how I should be the one penalized for their mistake. I would appreciate getting my money back that is deserved, instead I am stuck paying extra because they did not do their job.
