The one star Is for the sweet girl Patti at the front desk who was very helpful and supportive during the stressful situation I was in, with this place. I hate to be that person who leaves bad reviews and starts conflict but I'm very disappointed and unhappy with the service Angelina provided for me. What I wanted and what I got are so different and I understand that it takes time to get the results you desire but when it's this far off that's a little concerning. I booked another hair appointment with the stylist I should have gone to and requested a refund from the owner- to which she replied that Angelina stands by her work and took the time and effort to do my hair so a refund is not an option. They did offer to tone my hair down for me and did give me back the tip I left. However I'm reluctant to have them go near my hair again. It just sucks that they have so much pride and they let that pride get in the way of satisfying their clientele. I could barely afford the hair I got as is and now that's 200 dollars down the drain on top of getting my hair fixed for even more money. I can't speak on any of the other stylists there but what I can say is do your research before booking. There's no hate or ill will against Angelina or the rest of the team. But I am really disappointed they couldn't swallow their pride and make things right :( read more

I wish I could give this 0 stars. I booked an appointment at Dukes and Dolls for the first time to get a ombré balayage and brought all these photos for reference. Keep in mind my hair was about 18-19 inches long. When I sat in the chair, a women named Jill came to me because she was the hair stylist assigned to me. I told her and showed her with my fingers about 2 inches and before any sort of wash or anything she proceeded to cut off 5 inches of my hair. At this point I looked at the floor and saw how much she took off and almost started crying, I was in shock and disbelief at what she did. She said to me that I was to old to carry long hair and that it was dead and "needed" to come off. I wanted to walk out. She then started to apply the color to my hair which took about 2 hours till complete. She had to redo the toner twice and it was a big hassle. She said "you're the reason I need a glass of wine because you're anxious." I stayed there for 2 hours and was on the verge of crying the entire time. This women did not know at all what she was doing. The color came out green and gray although I had asked for blonde color ombré. She took a towel and tried smearing it out. At this point my hair was completely destroyed. Dry, bleached, splotches on the back, unevenly cut and 5 INCHES shorter than when I walked in. The next day I texted Jill and showed her all the photos before I had come and after what she did and asked kindly for a 250$ refund, but she replied with saying that she had not done anything wrong and that the process was not a one step procedure, which I wasn't at all informed or aware of. Yet I would why I want to go back to someone who had butchered and humiliated me. I had to redo all my hair and spend another 300$+ to redo the color and cut. This had happened a few months ago and I am just now coming to terms with it. I have to do extensions and everything. The manager never had the guts to call me back after I had left many voicemails. All I have to say is never ever come to this unprofessional, heinous, joke of a salon. Do yourself a favor and never get your hair done here. They don't know what they are doing. My friend recommended the salon to me and I checked them out on yelp prior to my first appointment back in February. Based on photos and reviews I choose Jamie to do my cut and highlights. She did such a great job in February I returned yesterday for a refresher and again she did a fabulous job. Shiny and natural, and she's just as sweet and talented of a stylist you could have. It's a busy busy salon, you need to book in advance, easy online access is great to find an appointment slot. While my first appointment was pretty pricy, she had to do hair painting, yesterday was very fair for the quality of service I received. Downtown Petaluma has friendly 2 hr free parking which also makes for pleasant experience. Not to mention all the antiques, boutiques and restaurants all in walking distance of each other. read more

Yes, it's a 5 Star review, from the gal I spoke to at the desk explaining her about the drama of getting a haircut during the pandemic to my appointment with Angelina Cheda taking on my over grown out of control hair. She was patient and did as I requested, cutting a couple inches off, cleaned up the long layers and blow out. I did my research of hairdressers in Petaluma, Dukes & Dolls website highlights the hairdressers which is really informative, giving details of the hairdressers experiences and expertise. The salon is in a cool building with nice clean workstations. It was a Saturday when I got my haircut, I waited a week to review because I wanted to make sure I could maintain the cut and I admit I'm not gonna spend the amount of time that Ms. Cheda did. But I'm happy to say the cut is holding up. I Love it. read more

Exceedingly gentle from start to finish, very compassionate, and thorough in trying to understand my scalp issues that I was having trouble articulating - she asked all the right questions and was not judgmental. I emailed Dukes and Dolls to see if they had anyone who knew how to cut curly hair...not many stylists know how...and they booked me an appointment with Stephanie, the only one who has curly hair herself. So, while I was only there for two days, I bit the bullet and took a leap of faith. I can honestly say that Stephanie gave me the BEST haircut I have ever had!!! Candice was amazing. She was so sweet, so attentive, and she has curly hair so I really felt like she understood my hair from a personal perspective. As soon as I showed her a photo of the cut that I wanted, I felt like I was in such good hands and that she would alter it to my hair type so that it wouldn't look awful or like a triangle. Upon entering the salon, the receptionist was SO welcoming and sweet. I don't really go to get my hair "done" by myself (I always go with someone that's getting their hair cut as well and just sort of tag along and decide on a trim), so the big smile and welcome was really comforting. I never once felt out of place here and everyone was super nice when I was waiting. As for the cut, it's fantastic. Whenever I have spent a few bucks on a good cut, I always feel really self conscious, but after this one I felt like a million bucks. Candice assured me that the cut was good for my hair type whether I styled it, let it air dry, or let it grow out. And she was right! My hair looks amazing straight, curled, or natural (I have some difficult hair). We had conversation and it was easy, I was quiet and didn't feel uncomfortable for not talking. My hair looks amazing and I've gotten SO many compliments on it. I've never trusted anyone so much with my hair and I will absolutely be seeing Candice again, possibly for color along with a refresh on my cut. I have now been going there for years! My last 3 or 4 visits have been with Jaime Payne (spelling?) and she is awesome!! She just gets me. Every time I come in, I show her a pic and explain the cut I'd like and it always comes out so perfect. I was pretty blonde this summer so I went in to get it warmed up for fall. I asked to keep it a little lighter in front and to bring some of my natural color (ash brown) back in to the top. LOVE. Also, she is the sweetest ever. I enjoy chatting with her while my color sets. I have seen 3 girls at Dukes and Dolls...all 3 were super sweet and freindly and most importantly...they are awsome with hair (and I am picky). Do I recommend them, YEEESSSS! Go. Ok, so I wasn't exactly blown away by the job she did, but I have to at least give Jill an A for effort. I went in to have my color done, and explained that I wanted it to be dark brown with natural-looking, non-orangey highlights. The non-orangey part was key, as I wanted to avoid looking like Tony the Tiger. Somehow the message didn't get through, though, and as she was drying my hair, I noticed it had orange stripes. Eek. I asked if she could tone it down a bit. Bless her, she was very professional about it all and immediately set about fixing the color - for which I was tremendously grateful. Fantastic salon in Petaluma! I saw Shauna yesterday and she basically worked a miracle on my hair. In addition to being super sweet and attentive, she is a master of color and style who will go above and beyond to make sure you are satisfied and get the look you want. I came in with some pretty gnarly grown-out bleach, and she did an amazing job giving me highlights, lowlights, and overall a much more natural and healthy color. She also trimmed it up from a shapeless mop into a cute piecey bob that works great with my wavy hair. She really understands hair and obviously enjoys what she does! She is very confident and capable and knew exactly what to do to fix my hair, and didn't skimp on the time or steps needed to achieve it. Plus, the cost was extremely reasonable compared to a lot of bay area salons that would not have done as good of a job as she did. Thanks, Shauna!! Salon itself is colorful, hip, and fun. Having just come out of a pretty harsh depression and wanting to start a new chapter, I checked out this salon, their reviews and decided to go for it! I called the salon, gave a brief description of what I was looking for, and the knowing receptionist made me an appointment with Stephanie, a sweet, gentle, empathetic, and talented stylist. I spent my afternoon with Stephanie talking, sharing and getting a beautiful new color and cut! She was detail oriented, precise with the cut, and spot on with the color and correction! I came in looking like a calico cat, and left with a buttery mane of hair that actually moves! Now I understand why this place has such excellent reviews! Mandy cut my hair a couple weeks ago, and she did an excellent job, in addition to being totally fun to chat with during the hour. She was able to interpret my vague requests (like "I want it to look really straight across on the bottom but not too flattened on top of my head") and turn it into an excellent, functional haircut. I also appreciated that she didn't criticize my previous haircut or hair color, which I feel like a lot of stylists do the first time you see them. Instead, she said that my hair color from two years ago had grown out incredibly nicely (great work, Gail at Festoon Berkeley)--I agree! It's nice to not take unnecessary digs at your hair stylist colleagues. I'll go back to Mandy for my next haircut for sure. As a typical guy, I don't really like to put a ton of thought on my hair or spend much time looking for a stylist. However, I do now that may hair is one of the first things people see, so I want to look good. I had been bouncing around between stylists and barbers for a long time until I found Dukes and Dolls. She's helped me grow my hair longer, then cut it shorter, and is always a good moderator between what I want for my hair and the way my wife thinks I should look.
