Scheduling an appointment is easy to do with the owner Patti. She answers the phone but may be busy doing someone's hair at the time. So the appointment was agreed upon via text message. Hair Styling: I like that when Patti did my hair she was doing my hair only. There should be a consultation for the hair to come to an agreement for style and to understand what does or doesn't work. I have natural hair and a style can look amazing but afterwards the heat can damage my curls. Along the way I shared this with Patti how I like my hair and desire for it remain healthy. She didn't really take the time to listen and was very rushed. I usually have a relaxing time in the salon but not so much with this visit. The price was 155 for a press, deep conditioner, and trim. A little pricey but it would be doable if the experience was better. read more

Ok, so I've now been going to Patti for more than a year which speaks volumes. Patti does my natural hair and introduced me to extensions; both she does like the pro that she is. I don't have a lot to write on this updated review but I will say that I have become a loyal customer. It is very hard to find a good stylist when you move to a new city but if you move to Dallas, this is the only Place to go. People from Dallas know how good Patti is. I was very impressed with my hair after visiting this spot. Normally hair salons offer water or maybe wine if they're fancy but Duke's offered me a glass of Apple Crown Royal. Let me tell you - my face lit up with excitement. Now that's what I'm talking about! I had a great experience here but subtracting one star for one of my biggest hair salon pet peeves: working on another client during my appointment time. If I make an appointment for 7, I expect my appointment to start at 7 and I receive service the entire time. Don't stash me under the dryer for an unnecessary hour while you work on someone else. A 1.5 hour appointment ends up taking 2.5 hours because a stylist is working on 2-3 people at a time. I don't think that's great service. Other than having to sit under the dryer for what seemed like forever, I really had a great experience here and will most likely be back, but with extra time to spare now that I know this isn't an in-and-out type of spot. read more

I moved to Dallas from Los Angeles and thought I was doomed to have to commute back to LA to get my hair looking the way I wanted to after a horrible color job at another local Dallas salon. I asked for light brown and turned out a cartoony bright red, which is one of the toughest colors to correct. A friend of mine referred me to Patti at Dukes Hair Studio and with only a few hours' notice she squeezed me in the day I needed to catch a plane to Paris, in an attempt to fix this nightmare of a dye job. I was weary because in my past I've normally gone to white salons to get my hair colored and cut then to black salons to get it treated and weaved because of past experiences with the unfortunate lack of modern training techniques in black salons. Its taboo and a bit harsh but it's a reality that several of my girlfriends and I share. When I showed up to my appointment at 6 AM looking like a Dr. Miracle commercial Miss Patti Duke greeted me in a Givenchy T-shirt and harem pants and I knew that I was home!!!! Patti Fixed my color, far beyond my expectations, trimmed me up and sent me on my way to catch my flight to Paris looking like a million bucks. I was beyond impressed with her skill and her ability to analyze my personal style without me having to say a word. Patti just GOT IT. I've now been going to Patti exclusively for about a year and could sit in her chair blindfolded and trust that she will work her magic every time. Since then I've moved back to LA and Look forward to my trips back to Dallas to be at her chair once again! Patti is the perfect blend of style, skill and professionalism and has created a team at duke's hair studio that mirrors her vision perfectly. I believe the positive reviews are fake. The other reviews mimic my experience almost to the T. No parking, bad customer service, they couldn't care less about you, your hair or if you'll return...just your wallet. I came in for a color change, owner suggested multi dimensional but instead she just had someone throw bleach on my hair which completely fried it. (I still have pics) I told her I didn't even want to go any further because enough damage was done and I was ready to leave. She then tells me "there was a miscommunication" (which is false because SHES the one who suggested to ME and I agreed ). So she tells me she can fix my newly fried, bleached hair but couldn't do what I originally came for because my "hair was damaged" (although during consultation she told me that my hair was healthy and in perfect shape for color). She threw a rinse on it and charged me $220. I had been in the shop (waiting) for so long I just wanted out I didn't even want to argue about cost because what really mattered was my hair which was completely damaged. I just want to let anyone considering going here PLEASE DO NOT GO HERE FOR ANYTHING PERTAINING TO COLOR OR CUT!!! also be prepared to sit waiting. This studio is wonderful! I just moved to Dallas from NY and I was in desperate need to find a hairdresser. When I first got in town, I tried a stylist who didn't do a good job with my weave and I was so disappointed... I am so glad that I found Patti, she is simply the best! It is hard to work behind another stylists work, (especially if it is a bad job) but Patti made a miracle happen the day I arrived in her salon. She is very knowledgable about working with my natural hair and weave. . . I tell you when I left the salon my hair was flawless, curls for days. Patti is very sweet, and personable, she made my experience in the salon nice. I did not have any waits, she was in time and got me out in a timely manner. The best color and extension install I've received in Dallas. Patti is awesome! She custom colored and installed my virgin hair and the finished product was amazing. I dropped my hair off with Patti a few days prior to my appointment to get it colored. I showed her a picture and she was able to duplicate the color look I was going for immaculately. During my install, I appreciated the fact that Patti was very informative about hair care and extension care tips. It showed me that she cares alot about keeping your natural hair healthy. You will NOT have to spend the whole day at this salon. My appointment was at 1p and we started ON TIME and I was out in couple hours. With my recent move to Dallas, I have been in search of a fabulous stylist who could do an amazing installation. A hair weave installation that is! Boy, was I in luck to find out my old college friend had just started at one of Dallas's hottest salons. I wasted no time booking my appointment with Will Ross for an early Saturday morning appointment. Now, when most of us make a Saturday hair appointment you usually plan on being there all day. Not at Dukes! I find myself wanting Will to go slower so that I can stay at the salon longer because of the positive energy in the salon. The owner Patti is an amazing business woman and stylist. The entire staff is talented and very friendly. The prices are reasonable for the quality of work you are receiving. Like my stylist Will says, "You get what you pay for". At Dukes it's not just about how your weave looks, but they also take care of your natural hair. Will has helped me to grow my natural hair out tremendously. Scheduling an appointment: After seeing so many positive reviews (which I now think are fake), I decided to give Duke's Hair Salon a chance. I gave Patti a call, where she simple answered with a "Hello". She never said, "Duke's Hair Salon how can I help you," and for a minute I thought I had the wrong number. We scheduled and appointment for the following weekend. Visiting the Facility: Unfortunately, I was running late and called ahead to let her know. I am a patient person and I don't mind waiting as long as the experience and hair style is done nicely. Patti (the owner) greeted me at the door. The facility has limited parking and I was concerned I was parked in a bad spot. She mentioned I could park anywhere. I am not from the area so I didn't quite understand what she meant as there was a small driveway in front of the facility that could only fit two cars. Apparently, you can park next door at another business, which personally, I don't think is appropriate. Service of Patti (owner and stylist): I came in for a relaxer and style. Patti failed to consult me on my hair, but instead had another stylist relax my hair. The other stylist also didn't take the time to consult me on my hair. I was under the impression that if Patti was going to do my hair she was going to manage the entire process (relaxer and styling), but she had another stylist named Africa perform the process. Additionally, please be warned that she up charges her prices. As a client, I shouldn't have to ask or guess if a roller set would be an additional to my relaxer. If we agree on a price, then that should be the price. If the price has to change, then that should communicated to the customer so I can decide if that is what I would want to do. Again, this could all have been adverted if Patti took the time to step away from her station for a moment, greet, guide, and consult me on my hair and the overall process. It's sad how two minutes could make a HUGE difference. Overall: Overall, Patti attempted to charge me 130 dollars for a relaxer and roller set. I will not be returning and I would like to warn those who do visit the salon that customer service is lacking. Patti please hire a receptionist, and learn to communicate. I felt nickel-and-dimed and when I went to explain my grievance she took it personally. She told me my hair took two packs of Affirm relaxer (which is normal for my hair), and for that reason she has to charge more. This conversation happened after the relaxer occurred. Please note this all could have resolved with one statement during the relaxer process - "Ma'am, unfortunately, we weren't able to finish your relaxer with one item, we would need to use additional relaxer for your hair. It will cost a couple of dollars more, is that ok?" The conversation ended with her telling me she didn't want me come back to her salon (being asked to not return to a salon has NEVER happened to me). I am fine with not returning because I didn't want to come back after being treated so poorly, but her reason for not wanting me to come back is because she didn't like my "vibe." I am happy to NEVER return as I can spend my money somewhere else that provides great services. I just feel sorry for the other stylist. Last Note: Dear Patti, I hope you learn to receive feedback. On another note, ladies if a stylist can't take feedback/listen during a process where you are allowing them to manipulate your beautiful hair...that is not a good stylist. read more

I was looking forward to getting my hair extensions done by Will Ross today. I couldn't wait and told everybody how excited I was to have my extensions in before leaving out of state to go to a bachelorette party. I had the whole thing planned. So, I made an appointment for 9:00 this morning. I left my house at 8:00 and arrived at 8:55. It is quite a drive away. I arrived at the salon and was greeted by the owner Patti Duke. She was well put together and cordial. She took me to the waiting area and turned the TV on. I had a great first impression. The place is nice, and the waiting room is comfortable. That is the extent of my good experience unfortunately. I saw that Will was washing someone else's hair which kind of alarmed me considering my appointment was for 9:00, and he is washing someone else's hair instead of greeting me. No sweat. I waited in the waiting room and watched HGTV. Will came and introduced himself to me at about 9:45 (45 minutes after my appointment) and told me to come on back. Okay, not too bad. It isn't 9:00, but if he can still work his magic in the allotted time frame, I have no complaints. I enter into his room, and there is a lady in his chair with wet hair that he is ready to blow-dry, and he tells me to have a seat. As I am sitting there and he is working on the other lady's hair, he says, "so what do you want?" I told him that I want extensions (like my appointment says). He asked me if I brought my own hair. I responded that I was told I could purchase hair there. He showed me the hair and said I needed two bundles at $175/piece. I said fine. Then he told me I could go back in the waiting room and wait for him to finish. Huh?! Is that a consultation?! You didn't touch my hair, you don't know my texture, you didn't even take it out of the clip it was in. Where is the intimacy and honest and open talk about my hair and my needs? I have had better consultations at Wal-Mart. I go back to the waiting room and look at some more HGTV. At 10:15 (1 hour and 15 minutes after my appointment was scheduled for), I went to the front and asked to speak with the owner. I was told to go to the back where the owner (Patti) was washing someone's hair. I said I would wait, but they told me to go. So now, I am complaining to Patti while she's washing someone's hair instead of stepping away. I told her my appointment was for 9:00 and it is 10:15 and I have heard nothing. Her first response to me was "have you talked to Will?" My head must have spun. Why would I talk to him? I'm talking to you? You are the owner correct? Or, shouldn't he have said something to me? Patti then informed me that they sometimes get behind and they may be able to wash and style me at least. I came for extensions and was about to drop $600 for them. I do not want a consolation prize that I have to pay for. Patti sent me in to Will to ask him what he can do (instead of her talking to him). I went back to Will's room while he was doing the same lady's hair and asked how much longer it would take. He said he was almost finished, but would not be able to finish me at the dedicated time. I informed him that the website said it would take three hours which is what I was scheduled for, and he said "that is approximate time". He then told me that even if he would have started my hair on time at 9:00, he would have still not finished on time. He then offered to do a wash and style (for a charge of course). I DON'T WANT A WASH AND STYLE. I WANT WHAT MY APPOINTMENT IS SCHEDULED FOR. I went back and told Patti what I was just told by Will, and she never once apologized to me. Both she and Will had the attitude of "shit happens" instead of being accommodating for the client. Just have a walk-in salon if you aren't going to stick to appointment times. If you value your time, this is not the salon for you. I cannot speak for the work product as I left after having to go back and forth between the owner and Will to solve the issue. I drove the hour back to my house with my hair the same way it was before I left and immediately wrote a review. I was so appalled by this that I had to share my experience. I have never left a review (good or bad) for any place, but I took special time for this. I am still in shock. read more

Absolutely the WORST hair salon I've ever been too. I was charged $ 150 for a press and trim that was done subpar. The owner, Patti, is the one that did my hair. She also spent the entire time insulting my hair..telling me that she has done a better job on other people hair because I didn't have "good hair". I'am a natural 4C with bra strap length hair so what are you even talking about. I will never go back EVER in life! Everyone in the salon gossips and try to defend hairstyles that are subpar. I first have to start off and say that Patti is very polite, nice, respectful, welcoming. A great owner of a beautiful salon. My experience however wasnt the best. I dont typically take the time to write reviews but in this case I feel i must. I setup an appointment with Patti to come in for a consultation. She was so prompt and courteous. I looked forward to my consultation and meeting her. I arrived at my appointed time and we chatted while she did a client's hair. I thought the fact that i had an appt for a consultation i'd at least have an undivided 10minutes or so but not the case. No big deal. So we chatted about what I wanted. I was blonde and wanted something different to bring out my skin color. (caramel complected ) She took a look at my hair and told me that she liked the blonde & that she would just do multi-dimension blonde low lights to bring out my skin. Sounded great!!! So i came back the following Saturday excited for this new color. It was the day before my birthday and this was my gift to myself, something new with my hair. I get there and Patti is with a client. Understandable, its Saturday at an awesome salon and booming with clients. She tells me that Tiara will be assisting her and will get me started. I was told she was an excellent colorist and i was in good hands. No problem! Tiara's hair is gorgeous and i trust Patti, She seemed straight forward and honest so i was ok. I had a ton of new growth of my natural color (dark brown) that needed to be lifted first. So Tiara bleaches the new growth but also puts dye on the already colored hair at the same time. So, after im sitting under the dryer for 20-30 minutes Tiara comes back to wash it out and she later begins to comb my naturally textured bleached blonde hair. I'm no hair expert but one thing i do know is that you comb from the ends to the roots and i would think with bleached hair you'd be extra careful. Not the case. My hair was yanked/pulled/combed etc So of course as she comb yanks my hair its breaking off so she stops. Patti comes to check to make sure everything is okay and they're asking eachother what the next steps should be. Its obvious tiara was unsure and uninterested at this point. So they put me under the dryer for about 45 minutes and as im sitting there i begin to run my fingers through my hair. It felt sooooooo dry. Dryer than i've ever felt ever. Mind you, i've had blonde hair for a while, i kept it conditioned/moisturized, rarely colored my roots (2-3 times a year) and i come to a salon and my hair feels like it is going to break off as soon as a comb or brush touches it. So i go to the restroom to take a look at my hair. I cannot believe that i'm even more blonde than when i came. no highlights, no low lights, no multi dimension anything. they basically bleached my roots and bleached the rest just a shade lighter. I'm not someone who complains. I can roll with whatever but i just couldnt get over what my hair looked like, i didnt want it to go any further so i asked Patti if i could speak with her. I was willing to pay for the services that were provided up until that point but i was ready to put my scarf on and leave. I honestly just wanted some color and a trim, i had no idea i would walk out with super blonde dry hair and looking like a clown. Patti tried to be accommodating but it seemed as if she was trying to put the blame on me, She asked me what i wanted and said there was a miscommunication. I dont understand how that was a miscommunication because she actually gave me the suggestion of what she was going to do to my hair and i agreed. (none of what she said was done). Secondly, she said that my hair was overprocessed and they didnt want to do anything else to it because its weak. If that were the case, why would you have even started bleaching already overprocessed/damaged hair? Like I mentioned previously, i made sure to take care of my hair so i know that was not the case. She really seemed so I at least wanted to give it another chance. Plus my hair was so blonde i looked like a clown at that point. I felt at that point it couldnt get any worse. I asked if she could at least darken my roots. She told me she'd have to check and see what colors she had available to use to fix my hair because they were only prepared for what i'd come in for. (i never got what i came in for, so whatever it was they should've had plenty left) but i just wanted to be done and out so i never said anything else just rolled with it. she puts a semi permanent color on my roots. In the end, what she threw together was pretty. It wasnt what i came for but it was presentable. The only complaint about the trim was that she cut the front of my hair specifically for the style she styled my hair in.So i can't do anything else with my now non existent bangs. Hours and hours later I paid $210 and got nothing i came for. read more

I read Yelp reviews and decided to give Duke's a try. I've been in the North Texas area for almost 6 years and haven't found a consistent hair stylist yet. So when I saw Patty's reviews I was excited and thought I'd found someone but unfortunately I'm still on my quest. Patty is very sweet! Like most people on here say she is sugar sweet. She makes you feel at home and comfortable. She's very professional and her studio is gorgeous!! I wanted to take all her mirrors. The only bad thing I would say about my experience is the wait. When I first got there I noticed three people seated so I was like oh crap. Patty apologized and explained that the water was shut off in the area all day the day before and therefore she was running a little behind. She seated me in the lovely waiting area where there are plenty of magazines and a t.v. I waited there for about 2 and a half hours before she brought me to the front where she was finishing up a customer. She braided me and then it was my time to wait...again... while she finished styling someone else which didn't take to long but when you make an appointment and advise you have to be out by a certain time...(side eye). Anyway, she was really fast with her styling she installed my hair and curled it in about an hour and a half which was nice. So I got there at 10, my appt was at 10 and I left right at 2:45. If you're not on a time crunch she would be great but if you have to be somewhere I would suggest trying somewhere else. Her installs are tight, very tight, I had a slight headache when I left but beauty knows no pain soooo. All in all if not for the distance Im very far North and she's deep down in South Dallas I would go there again but I would make sure my time is flexible! read more

I have been with Patti for the past 5 years now. There is no one I trust to take care of my natural hair and weave installations. Yeah, that's right, she can treat natural hair as well. When I relocated to Boston for work, I made it an effort to pencil in Patti once a month because I didn't trust anyone to take care of my hair. That is how much I believe in her skills, talents and abilities. Not only is she a talented stylist, she is a professional business woman. She created this business from scratch and continues to amaze me with the additional services she is bringing to the salon: make up artist, great weave extensions, etc. She is a one stop shop! There are not a lot of salon owners who can DO IT ALL! Patti is the real deal! If you are looking for someone who can glam you up and treat your hair at the same time, I highly recommend Patti. I was debating on if I should write a review or not; but I am b/c people should know what they are getting themselves into. A very close friend of mine referred me to Patti because my regular stylist was in the hospital. I made an appt w/ Patti and confirmed my appt. w/ Patti. As soon as I get there she tells me that someone else is going to do my hair and that she has something to do.... I thought to myself this is bad customer service b/c had she initiated the call to let me know i could have avoided sitting in 5:00 pm traffic heading to South Dallas. I was very reluctant VERY RELUCTANT to stay and I am assuming Patti sensed that. Patti proceeds to tell me that everyone employed by her she can vouch for etc etc etc....Mind you that I NEEDED my hair done because of a prior engagement that I had to attend after taking out some braids. Needless to say I was not happy w/ my hair. All I wanted was a wash and set. A basic hair-do so I thought. Maybe it's b/c I have natural hair and she couldn't get it all the way straight like I know it could have been. I expressed that I didn't like my hair but I will pay her anyway. The young lady told me not to worry about paying her but she did what she went to school for so I'm not going to take that away from her---so I paid for the services I received $65... When I left I explained to Patti that I didn't like my hair and things that could have been improved. She immediately got hostile, argumentative, and on the defense. The conversation didn't get anywhere she started to semi yell through the phone... Had I known this was the type of "professionalism" i was dealing with owner or not I wouldn't have wasted my time. There is a such thing as customer service.... I will not go here again and if there is any real talent still there... pack your stuff up and leave b/c if she treats customers like this I could only imagine how she treats her employees when she is given constructive criticism. Hopefully by the time this review is read she improves her attitude going forward when dealing with customers. Tip... Take a sip of some humble tea that will help. read more

I have to start by saying that I NEVER WRITE REVIEWS...lol...Never found anything that was truly worthy. Yes, I have had many great experiences, but never felt the urge to write one until now. With that being said, I have to say that PATTI IS AMAZING!!!!! In my search to find a hair stylist, I have to admit that I had to endure many not so great salons and hair stylist. I found Patti via a referral from a friend who looked absolutely stunning after hair extension services. I decided to give her a try and after 2 1/2 years, I haven't looked back!! Duke's Hair Salon is simply perfect; from the moment you are greeted at the door until you walk out with a beautiful hair style!! Patti is by far the most talented stylist I have ever worked with. What I love most is that she has a true passion for what she does; always striving to get to know you on a personal level so that she can create that perfect look that's just for you. I'm convinced that her hands are magical!!! If style, quality and a passionate stylist who cares for you and loves her work of art, Patti is your girl.
