Best place to get coffee in Duluth! UPDATED COFFEE SHOP! Bigger area opening in April!!!!! If you are looking for an urban hipster, high-end coffee experience, this is your place! As you walk by, they'll have the garage door open for the roaster so you could smell it from down the block! As you walk in, you'll see there's another door that is their café where they have a full food menu. They have a one of a kind experience for coffee lovers. They have many different pour over methods and apparatus! They have lots of unique and delicious flavors of coffee from different regions of the world! They have lots of crafted espresso drinks and seasonal specialties. Overall this is a great place to sit and enjoy coffee, get some work done or chat with a friend.

I was in Duluth, it was morning, so I got coffee. Seriously, this place came recommended as a place to try for a caffeine hit when in downtown. It was Sunday morning and there was a bit of a slow moving line, but, hey it was Sunday morning, all chill. I ordered a cold brew and an espresso. The people working there were pretty nice and after a short wait, I had my drinks. Perhaps it is personal preference, but we did not like their coffee at all. Not sure where the beans come from - it was "good" coffee but my wife could barely drink her cold brew and I was not a fan of the espresso. These guys aren't a bunch of hacks, it is proper coffee, it just was not our style. But, if you do like their coffee, the spot has a nice vibe - old timey building and big windows taking in lots of morning light.

I've been to this place a handful of times and know it's never a miss. I truly think they do such a great job and are so welcoming to customers. I ordered a maple latte.. I do wish the maple flavor was a little more stronger but you can't go wrong with a subtle flavor as well. I'm sure it varies on the certain tastes of customers.. so it was just a preference! Thankful to know it will always be a hit when we stop here! They do a wonderful job + have a great use of space to serve their customers.

SO YUMMY! Genuinely sad I didn't get more. The staff were really really nice! And the place was very cozy! Reminded me of 1990's? Idk why lol

If you're staying in Duluth this is a solid choice for coffee and a sandwich before hitting the road north or south. The coffee shop is pretty small so ca get crowded on touristy weekends but the baristas move quickly. That might be partly sue to the curt nature of the service. Don't get me wrong; I'll take that over bubbly and fake any day. It's not cheap but I think the coffee is quality. They supply a ton of hotels and restaurants in the area. I haven't been to the cafe yet but it looks good and I might have to try it next time.

    Kilo of decaf

My friend told me the decaf coffee here was good, so I had some next door with breakfast. It was SO good I bought two bags to bring home. Afterwards, I noticed I could have purchased a kilo of it. I will do that next time. The place is extremely popular, so I had a long wait to buy the bags, but it was a very pleasant ambiance so I didn't mind. It was a Sunday morning, so your mileage may vary, but it was about 10 or 15 minute wait. While in line, I noticed they also sell ICE CREAM from Love's creamery! Great to keep in mind for next time. Good decaf is hard to find. I plan to ask my local friend to bring it to me regularly!

I travel quite a bit, but when in the area we don't miss the Duluth Coffee Company. My husband sticks to the maple latte which he loves - I'm more adventurous and today had a butternut pumpkin spice latte, delicious. The breakfast sandwiches are to die for!

Great coffee and great atmosphere. The first thing you do when you walk in is notice how long the line is but then you notice how great the coffee smells and that the staff really takes a good amount of time talking to people and figuring out what exactly they want. This is one of those true craft coffee places where the staff know their coffee and you can tell they put a lot of energy and effort into what they're doing. End up having two different coffees and espresso and a macchiato and they are both amazing. I think next time I go there I'm going to take some of the roasted coffee home. There's also an attached restaurant next door under the same name where it's more of a sit-down food place. This location doesn't really have food they have some little pastries but really it's all about the coffee and coffee experience. I will be back again next time I'm in Duluth.

If you are in Duluth this is a great coffee shop to try! The coffee drinks are really well done. The espresso is really smooth. Next door is their restaurant with pretty delicious food. We split the burrito and it was just enough and super yummy. A definite stop when you are on your way up north!

Stayed at the Sheraton hotel a few blocks down and decided to stop in for coffee and a little breakfast before starting the day. It sounds like they've recently added food to the menu, which I was excited about. Most coffee shops don't have a full menu so this was a bonus! The seating was comfy and they weren't too busy for a Friday morning. We were seated right away and our server took our order promptly. We started with two lattes which took a little while to come out, but were good. I wouldn't say anything over the top, but pretty decent. I chose this place because of its farm to table menu and the food was of good quality. The biscuits and gravy came out luke warm and were really spicy. I wouldn't order this again. However, the breakfast burrito was quite tasty and came with a side salad with a delicious vinaigrette. Order this! The space was cozy and cute. Especially on a foggy, dreary day. Overall, the experience was fine. Decent place to pop in for a coffee or light breakfast. Maybe get a little work done.

Great Iced coffee. Well balanced acidity and the coffee flavor shines through. A line forms quickly, but it moves fast.

Stopped here on a business trip. It was a delicious coffee. They had two dairy free cream options oat and macadamia. I went with macadamia nut, while it wasn't my favorite the coffee itself was delicious. They also sell bags of coffee! The staff and service was also amazing.

Even though this was well past lunch time at 2PM, the outside patio was packed and there was a line of 10 people or so to contend with to order at the register. Due to how busy it was, our food took about 20 minutes to arrive. The Squealy Dan, Porketta ($16) - Unlike most other restaurants with Iron Range Porketta, Northern Waters slices their porketta thinly instead of pulling the pork apart. It has a pleasant spiced flavor and the texture feels as if it's cured rather than roasted. It's relatively tender, and while they give a decent amount of meat, it's completely overshadowed by the heavy spicy quality of the black pepper and the acidity and vegetalness of the crunchy pepperoncini. There's a bit of melted gooey provolone on top of the porketta. While nice, there's not enough to balance out the peppers. This is all on a crusty almost baguette-like hero roll, toasty and warm. The sandwich is served with a side dip that's essentially black pepper and pepperoncini water. Definitely not needed given how overwhelming those elements are in the sandwich. (3/5) Pastrami Mommy ($19) - I haven't had bison pastrami before. Now I know why it's not very common - it's way too lean and dry compared to beef pastrami. Still, it's nicely spiced and peppery, and there's not much of the bison gamey flavor since it's cooked out from the curing. There's a little bit of mayo underneath and some mustard on top, but it's not enough moisture or fat in my opinion to counteract the leanness of the bison. While there are some slices of provolone above the meat, they are served cold. I feel like melting it with the pastrami on the griddle would do wonders to help develop some more unctuousness. It's also served on cold rye - perhaps toasting with some butter would also help. Otherwise, the sandwich is just too dry and lean for my tastes. (3/5) I feel like I ordered the wrong items. I probably should have gone with some of the seafood sandwiches, but I found it strange they only serve Atlantic salmon rather than local lake fish. In the end, I appreciate that Northern Waters Smokehaus makes most of their meats in house, but after trying their food, I feel like it's more hype than substance. We went to the Lake Ave. location in Canal Park since it was walking distance. Walking into the establishment you are greeted with the aromas breakfasts being made and a hostess who was friendly. We opted to eat outside under the covered patio to enjoy the day. The menu has plenty of options to suit one's fancy - pancakes, waffles, pecan/cinnamon rolls for those with a sweet-tooth, and of course any number of savory plates for the rest of us. Making an eating decision can prove difficult. the Huevos Rancheros looked appealing as did the breakfast sandwich, and the brisket eggs Benedict. I opted for what was behind door number four and picked the country fried steak and eggs. Much to my delight, instead of the usually Sysco food distributor breaded chopped steak topped with a gravy from an institutional food can - They actually used a rib-eye for the steak, and homemade gravy. I also had the option of toast or a pancake. I always love me some decent rye toast, but today was a day to mix it up, and the pancake was nice, and not too big. I also liked that there was an option for blueberry syrup, or Maple syrup. The other item ordered was the Greek Omelet, my wife truly enjoyed it, and they also cooked her hash-browns to order which she appreciated (she likes them really, really crispy).
