These are authentic Asian dumplings hand rolled in the front of the restaurant by a little old lady who looks like she wants to murder you when you come in. The front of the restaurant has duct tape on the window, so you know this is the place for real dumplings. We had a variety of steamed and fried dumplings and they were all amazing. The restaurant itself is unassuming, and the service is completely meh, but you can get the best dumplings in Toronto for a reasonable price. Cash only, but there's ATM in the restaurant. *CASH ONLY* After a full day of walking and exploring Toronto, we were ready to eat and stumbled upon Dumpling House Restaurant. We ordered #2 Pork, Chive, and Shrimp steamed dumplings. Our takeout order took around 10 minutes to prepare. The filling was a bit lackluster... I could only taste the shrimp and not much of the chive or pork. We also found the dumpling too chewy since the dough was thick. I wish the dumplings had a thinner wrapping so we could enjoy the filling more. Good pricing for the amount of food we received. Three choices of steamed dumplings (pork & chinese cabbage dumplings, pork chive & shrimp dumplings, lamb meat dumplings) - served all together on one plate and they all looked the same so I was unable to visually differentiate which is which, was only able to tell which ones had shrimp. wrapper is a on the thicker side and meat filling were all very lean with a semi crumbly texture, there was no fatty bits which made the dumplings less juicy. Three choices of pan fried dumplings (fried shrimp & pork dumpling, fried pork & chive dumpling, fried lamb dumpling) - also was unable to differentiate which from which. I preferred these because of the crispy dumpling skirt - greasy but added a crunchy savory texture to the dish. wrapper for these were perfect for me but the meat filling again were all very lean with a semi crumbly texture. My party of 5 came in for dinner at 7:30PM on a Thursday and was seated right away without any wait; not that busy. Shop is a bit cramp for large parties as majority of the table setups seated parties of 2-3. Service was quick (we waited about 5 minutes for the dumplings) but could be friendlier: the waitress told my sister to "get up" and move to the other side of our table to free up a chair for other incoming customers - just thought that she could have worded it nicer :'). Note for US tourists: since this is a cash only shop, kindly remind the cashier that you would like the total price in USD because they will automatically give you the price in CAD. Tried the steamed Pork, Shrimp and Chive dumplings today and was mildly impressed. I usually like steamed dumplings, but these dumplings--albeit that there were 15 of them--tasted pretty bland. I usually have a generous palette and don't complain often (especially when hungry), but this batch of dumplings was only good enough for me to try once. The service was lacklustre and only came up to my table once to serve the food. After that, I pretty much was left on my own. The cool thing is that you can watch the workers making the dumplings from the sidewalk outside through the window. I thought that was definitely something unique and was enough for me to curiously draw my interest to try the dumplings out. The ambiance was nothing special--seating enough for 4 at each table but they can accommodate larger groups by pushing tables together. Good lord was my food ever bad. I used to come here in 2014 and remember loving it - I'd get Shanghai noodles & garlicky pork and everything was super salty and garlicky and tasty, so I was really excited to rediscover this place and hyped it up to my husband. We ordered the beef pan fried dumplings and pork and shrimp pan fried dumplings - both were yummy with nice and crispy wrappers. I preferred the pork and shrimp though. We also ordered the beef fried noodles. This dish receives mixed reviews. On the one hand, the flavours and noodles itself were delicious. However, the beef was on the hard and chewy side. Mind you, we eat pretty bland at home (fear of too much salt!) so my palate is used to it but this was beyond my weak seasoning skills. It could have used a healthy doooop of soya sauce or salt. Came here with a group of 4 for the first time on New Year's Day. They have an open kitchen at the front of the restaurant where the head chef of 10+ years is cooking. Before being seated, the staff remind you that it is cash only. We ordered a cold dish app of cucumbers which was mildly marinated, so we learned to let it sit for a few minutes before digging in. Food was just average. - Green Onion Pancake: The menu item name in Chinese 蔥油大餅 is misleading. 大餅 is supposed to be a thick flatbread, but this one was thin and crispy. It tasted fine, but it wasn't worth the price. - Shanghai Stir-fried Noodles: My Shanghainese mother said that they made this dish sweeter than it's supposed to be and that the noodles are a lot softer and shorter. It was a decent stir-fried noodle dish, but compared to what a Shanghai stir-fried noodle dish should be, it wasn't quite there (basically, not really authentic Shanghainese). - Dumplings: Both the steamed and pan-fried dumplings were fine. They tasted like average good dumplings. The skins weren't too thin or too thick, and there was just the right amount of filling. For the pork, chives, shrimp dumplings specifically, it was good that each dumpling had one whole shrimp. Zero eggs and salty fish in the dumplings. ONLY CHIVES 4. When my parents paid the bill, the waitress got angry at us and asked why we didn't tip ... but we did tip and it was underneath the bills. So we were like "excuse me??? Did you even look to see?" She flips it over and sees the tip and then changes her energy completely and starts saying thank you. This woman had the audacity to get angry at customers who she treated so poorly yet actually still tipped. Im actually speechless. Lovely dumpling restaurant! The prices here are absolutely fantastic and cheap, and the dumplings are delicious. It's quite a hole-in-the-wall type of restaurant. It's very crowded all the time and feels sort of steamy inside during the summer hours--but what would you expect with steaming baskets and so many people? The steamed dumplings are wonderfully juicy while the pan fried dumplings are crunchy--albeit a bit dry. I recommend trying the soups here! Hot and sour soup is a personal favourite of mine, in general, and this place make it really well! I'll definitely be coming back again--but probably in the winter time. read more

Ordered two appetizers - garlic pork and spicy seaweed salad. The pork was tender and well seasoned, however the salad was a bit underwhelming. We ordered three different kinds of dumplings - pork chive and shrimp, lamb (steam) and chicken (pan-fried). I enjoyed lamb the most followed by pork chive and shrimp and finally chicken. The chicken dumplings lacked flavour, while the others were pretty decent. Overall, I would rate the food 6/10. It was a bit warm inside the restaurant and service took extremely long. read more

Sure, I've been skeptical of this place myself when I pass by it as I walk in Chinatown because I don't trust window displays of women making dumplings from scratch, but upon the chance of eating here, I would recommend you go just go here already. I ordered the steam dumplings and they tasted made to order! The skin (which I'm most concerned about) was not that thick and the filling was just right. Tried Take out from Dumpling House after a long time and the place still lives up to its fame! I ordered the fried pork dumplings, which had the famous crispy wafers connecting the dumplings, yet the actual dumplings weren't too oily or charred! The meat was well seasoned and cooked. I've been coming here for years and always try to find an excuse to go when in the neighbourhood. It's my favourite place for dumplings, especially the potsticker and steamed styles. I usually order the steamed pork and shrimp dumplings and fried pork and chive dumplings. Occasionally, will order the Shanghai noodles or a rice dish. Prices are reasonable. Service varies on each trip, depending on how busy they are. 90% of the time I can place my order quickly and get the dumplings in a reasonable amount of time. The dumplings here are so good! They are perfectly chewy and juicy fillings. We ordered pork and chives, pork and shrimp , pork and mushrooms fried and steamed. They were both good in different ways. What I loved was watching the family worked together in this restaurant. It's truly a mom and pop shop. They have made everything and it was a pleasure to watch them at work. They also sell frozen ones for us to fry or steam at home. But freshly made and cooked by them is best. Their sweet and sour chicken was also very good. The 1 thing I wished they had done especially during this pandemic is to wear masks and hair net for hygienic protocol. I see on pictures from years past that they used to follow food hygiene protocol and was masks, gloves and hair net. But for some odd reason, they did away with it and just going bare now. BEST POTSTICKERS EVER. There are 12 per plate and it is full of meat inside. The shrimp is extremely fresh and juicy, the bottom of the potstickers are extremely crispy, I enjoyed every single bite of them. They have a jar of chili paste on each table, be sure to try a little bit it is super authentic. I wasn't really hungry when I went there but I was so tempted to have a second plate!!!! They make their dumplings on site and u can actually watch them make those, which is super fun. The potato salad is amazing, I have never tried that before in my life but I will definitely go back for that. With lots of businesses closing at 6pm, I'm grateful dumpling house is open late, until 10:30pm on a week night! Since the lockdown, I've ordered their vegetarian frozen dumpling, filled with greens and diced tofu, their frozen green onion pancake and their takeout braised eggplant and sautéed green beans. As a disclaimer, eggplants are probably my favourite things to eat, and i love how buttery it is here at Dumpling House. Just yummy! As for the sautéed green beans, FYI they are seasoned with lots of minced garlic and a spicy and tangy bean sauce. Proceed with caution if you can't take too much heat! This was my first time at Dumpling House! The restaurant itself was small with few seating, but they weren't busy and able to fit in a party of 6. We wanted to hop around each restaurant in Toronto's Chinatown, so we didn't order much, just the pan fried beef dumplings. They had pretty solid dumplings. The outside was crispy and the meat inside was super flavorful. I'm talking stars off because the waiter told us that it was cash only and that they were making US cash equivalent to the worth of Canadian cash, which is sort of a rip off. Not bad, not great, this place is a classic chinese restaurant with a specialization in dumplings found in the heart of Toronto. Like the name suggests, they serve up a variety of delicious dumplings and large servings (especially protein wise) but their dishes were a little bit too oily for my taste. I personally preferred their steamed dumplings more than the pan fried one as the skin was chewy. The beef noodle soup had a lot of beef but it was quite fatty and had no flavour other than salty, while the beef stir fry was again, sitting in a pool of oil. Always walked passed this restaurant in Chinatown but never actually went in to try but after seeing the reviews, we had to try it and it did not disappoint. We got the House Special Noodles and the Steamed Pork and Chives dumplings. The noodles had a very tasty sweet sauce and is definitely great to share as the flavour might get tiring after a few bites. The dumplings were also pretty good! $9.99 for 15 dumplings and they were pretty big and also great to share because they are very filling. Each table also has their condiments in which you can make your sauce to dip your dumplings in with how you like it. The dumplings are also freshly made in the front of the store which gave this place a very authentic feel and the service was very fast! No complaints. I've never had lamb in a dumpling so I had to try it, glad I did. Pan Fried all stars: Fried beef the Fried Shrimp + Pork dumpling. The house Special noodles was very tasty, I'd order again. The bok choy topped with the yummy black mushrooms gets my veggies in so I feel healthy af. Good quality dumplings that come to your table quickly. Ambiance: It's a hole in the wall restaurant with above average considering it's size. There's a long community table down the center with tables surrounding it. The open dining area was decorated with chinese ornaments and the mirrors on the wall make the area appear more spacious. We had no issues with the dining area. FYI. This is a cash only establishment which is posted on several signs in the restaurant. If you're out and about in the Toronto China Town area and want to have some fresh dumplings and/or other Chinese dishes, this is a great option to consider. Food is good, we were craving dumplings and we came to the right place. Got a variety of steamed & pan fried dumplings. Food comes pretty quickly but I wished the place was a bit cleaner. The plastic soup spoon was stained from overuse, the condiments were obviously neve really cleaned well everyday. Dumpling house is one of the remaining options left still standing in Chinatown, and one that I've been to over the years. Despite its name, they also offer a lot of other chinese dishes. The restaurant isn't particularly clean. The condiments are sticky or oily, possibly from people using their hands to grab dumplings and then go and pour more soy sauce or vinegar. They do wipe off the bottles, but probably only when it needs to be refilled. The tables don't feel particularly clean either; I wouldn't put my stuff on there. Dumplings are made fresh. You can see some if the staff at the very front of the restaurant putting dumplings together, sometimes walking back and forth with huge bowls of minced meat or vegetables. You can get a plate of 15 boiled dumplings or 12 panfried dumplings for $8.99. The prices have steadily gone up everytime I come, and at this price I'd look at other options on the menu as their rice or noodle dishes are quite large in portion, and also cost about the same. Dumplings take time to cook, so expect up to 10 minutes depending in how busy the restaurant is and what kind of dumpling you're getting. The boiled dumplings taste great. They come with a good skin-to-filling ratio. The fried dumplings are not as big as I would like, but the flavor is there as well. I love the look of the fried dumplings all stuck together and golden brown . The taste was not bad. I usually have steamed dumplings so I was not sure when I noticed that most of our dumplings had burst open during the frying process and had no juices left in them. A few remained intact and seemed a bit more moist but again I cannot be sure if that is how it is supposed to be or whether it was poorly done. Either way I still enjoyed the dumplings. The Zha-Jiang noodles were a little saltier than I would have liked. It was still ok but I have definitely tasted better elsewhere. This place was packed when we arrived and people kept coming into the restaurant. The place is not that big so it definitely felt a little cramped. The service here was average but it was understandable given how busy they were. Overall I was fine with the experience I had here as they aligned with my expectations.
