The noodles were perfectly textured, crunchy, and bouncy. The soup was made according to HK standards - the proper way with dried shrimp flavor. It was rich and strongly flavored that way. According to the HK expert, mom, that is the proper and legit way. 100% approved. The price is right on point for a quick, simple meal. The waitress was straightforward, and the tea is not an extra charge. Just be careful as the tea is super, super hot. The noodle shop is my cup of tea as I'm familiar with places like this. I love it. It is the Chinatown feel. Lots of older folk eating there and not in a rush. They're reading the newspaper or chatting away. My girlfriend and I came here for lunch. Overall, the food was good and we had an okay experience, though there was a bit of a language barrier with the staff. One issue we had was with the billing and payment process. The restaurant is cash only, which we didn't mind -- we just used the ATM they directed us to. However, when we looked at the bill, the total was higher than expected. When we asked for clarification, they told us that an 18% tip was already included, even though we were just a table of two -- and they never mentioned this until we asked. So it might be our fault. Whatever, we felt the dishes we ordered were really ... plain. King's Noodle was on the list of Essential Toronto restaurants. They offer Canto cuisine, esp stuff hanging in the window, like roast duck, roast pork and char siu. King's is on Spadina in Chinatown. I ordered the duck & char siu plate. Although the items tasted good, the portion was small for the price IMHO. I had to have some of my travel companion's won ton mein to feel even close to satisfied. Regarding the ambiance, its your typical Chinese restaurant. It wasn't crowded, but there were some older native speakers present. The service was fast & efficient. It was nice they took USD, bc this was our last lunch b4 our flight in the evening. We had run out of C$. Unfortunately, after I returned home I saw a IG clip of Toronto Chinese BBQ places. King's wasn't on the list. However, the places that were had much bigger portions vs King's. The Beef Chow Fun was good. It was flavorful but not greasy like some restaurants. The House Chow Mein lacked flavor and bordered on being bland. The noodles were deep fried not pan fried. It had a mixture of shrimp, pork, squid, and veggies. The Cheung Fun wrapped Chinese donut lacked taste and texture. I would not recommend this. The Chinese donut would be great by itself if it were crunchy but it wasn't. The Two Item BBQ was fair. The BBQ Pork was lean and tasted good. It could have been sweeter but that's just my preference. The roast duck was meaty but lacked flavor. It bordered on being gamey as there was not sufficient marinade. I always go there for the most authentic Chinese food. It's not Chinese-American, but genuine cuisine. The bowl of chicken corn soup is a meal in itself. You also get a native experience when seated. If there are no free tables, you'll be seated anywhere they can find room, even with perfect strangers. And you won't find a fork anywhere. It was clean and spacious unlike the good old days. Howver, the food was disappointing. Let's talk about the good food. The rice rolls and chicken rice were delicious. Fried donuts were very good too. Congee was good and had a good texute,, but they added leftover roast pork instead of the pork. It's pork and preserved egg congee, if u add leftover pork, it's definitely not the same. And I hate it when restaurant cut cost by using their leftovers. Wonton were also not that great. *BEWARE* The food was good but they took advantage of us by charging more than the original bill! I added everything we've ordered together and it should've been around $85 USD with tax. They informed us that it was CA$130 which is around $96 USD. Then they said it's actually $115 USD. That is a huge difference! The receipt was not itemized and we were not able to read it. We did not want to argue and waste time so we gave them $120 USD since they only accepted cash. They gave us CA$5 in change, which is even less than what they owed! Came here on a Saturday night and it was busy but we got a table for three without too much of a wait. I ordered a bowl of wonton noodles in soup, and I was impressed by how cheap it was (only a little more than $5). The noodles themselves are made in house, and they had a delightful springy texture. The wontons were delicate and full of big shrimp pieces and the broth was light and savoury. One of my companions got the braised beef noodle soup with rice noodles and that was really good, I'll probably try that next time. I also got the gailan (Chinese broccoli) and a bowl of pork liver congee paired with youtiao (fried dough stick), which were decent and also reasonably priced. Overall this place is no-frills and the prices are very cheap. Service is no-nonense, but they get the job done. I waited more than ten years to write a review for this place and am damn glad I got to come back. What made it special was that my friend was in town and taking him was perfect because of the amount of food they give you. The wait can be trying but they get you in and out if you order just the right amount of food. For this run, we had beef chow mein and chicken fried rice. My friend ordered Chicken Congee but it had too much ginger for my taste but I'm sure for anyone else, it's a true hit. I had Tsingtao for the first time in my life and this particular Chinese beer was clutch. The elevation of my choices worked out well for the night and already miss having food from there. I've heard of King's Noodle and I may even have come here before, a long time ago. A friend who lives downtown suggested I meet him there for dinner and it sounded like a great idea. It was busy when we arrived, which is normal for this place, as I understand. We were lucky to get a table almost right away. It looks like the turnover rate is quick so nobody should have to wait long. They have literally hundreds of items on their menu! We could have spent a long time going through the menu but the BBQ meats hanging in the window at the front of the restaurant looked really good so we ordered a combo plate of BBQ duck and crispy roast pork, along with a beef chow mein. The food arrived quickly and steaming hot! The duck and pork looked really good. The chow mein had beef brisket, not the stir-fried beef that we imagined. It's a good sign when the majority of the people eating at an Asian restaurant are Asian, which is the case at King Noodle. Perhaps their prime, Chinatown location is a major factor, but this place is busy every time I come. The food here is filling, cheap, and good, but the service here is pretty transactional and unforgiving. Alright Andrew Zimmern, this place better be good! Prior to arriving in Toronto, I had bookmarked King's Noodle Restaurant because I caught it on Bizarre Foods: Delicious Destinations Toronto. We found it, came here for an early dinner, easily seated at a table for two and just beat out the dinner-rush crowd. + Dining + They had more than enough tables and chairs. Large round family tables in the center, seating for four dining on the sides. If there's anything I noticed, it was seeing someone wiping down tables or sweeping the floor. That's always a plus! ++ Dishes we ordered ++ #47 Barbecued Duck & BBQ Pork wonton noodle soup ($12.95). Oh man, this bowl had everything I ever wanted! The wontons were plump and hardy. The egg noodles were long and tasty. The duck and pork were cooked just right. All together in some savory broth and bok choy! Such a refreshing bowl I deeply inhaled! #7 Ginger Chicken (half @ $21.95), well this was the biggest mystery, as I know for a fact after investigating every delicious piece, they pretty much served us duck. This half chicken didn't have a huge breast, nor was the drumstick even fat. It was all lean, dark, and boney. But whether if it were duck or chicken, it was the ginger sauce/dip that made this dish! Every bite had to be dipped. The ginger was that good! #149 Rice Flour Roll with Donut ($3.95), how cheap! We tried this just because. I didn't mind the donut, but I wish it were shrimp. Oh well. The surprisingly amazing thing about Toronto is that you can find delicious eats from all over the world right in this beautiful city. Toronto is just packed with restaurants, breweries and bars that feature all types of food, from the super casual to the exclusive fine-dining. If you watch the Travel Channel, you will probably know of the TV show: Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern. From this show, there is an episode called "Toronto: Horse Heart and Flipper Pie." Here, he takes us to his food travels in Toronto, with one restaurant called King's Noodle Restaurant in the heart of Toronto's Chinatown. What's so special about this place? Just one thing: ROAST PORK. Right when you walk in, you will find a Chinese chef to your right preparing unlimited bowls of their exclusive famous dish, the one most ordered for: roast pork and wonton noodle in soup. There is a constant stream of people walking in and out, either ordering take-out or doing a quick sit-and-dine to wolf down this dish! My friend and i literally slurped this take-out in our rental car right outside of the "return spot." Yes, we were that pressed for time, but that didn't stop us from trying this dish. Even as take-out, it's better than nothing right? And you know what? It was unbelievable...... The noodles were thin and cooked perfectly al dente to give it that firmness that every thin noodle needs for that perfect texture to chew on. The roast pork had that perfect 1cm surface of crispy and crunchy skin to contrast with the intensely soft and chewy layer of fat that was still attached right on. I did not feel unhealthy to eat this. This tasted way too good, like a little piece of heaven packed right in this take-out box. How amazing is that?! The bok choy was soft yet firm at the same time. The broth was amazingly savory and just added on packs of comforting juicy flavors to the roast pork. This is one of those noodle soup dishes where I try to eat and drink at the same time! You just got to. Chew on the roast pork and some noodles and slurp on some savory broth at the same time so that each chew on the pork releases dense flavors onto the broth for you to swallow. AHHHH.. This was heaven in a take-out box (an hour later). If you come here the BBQ meats is a must order the roast pork skin is so crunchy and flavourful, the BBQ pork ( char siu ) was good but I found it to be slightly dry but could be the piece I had. The ducks was good not fatty yet fat enough because it is duck. The Hot and Sour soup we ordered it extra hot and extra sour which was perfect, it came in a large bowl with plenty of ingredients inside very good soup. We also ordered the Spicy fried noodles with pork and shrimp this is made with the yellow noodles that are used to make chow mein, The spice level is good super spicy so if you want you can add some more chili oil to it, good amount of noodles as well very good "wok hei". Most of their soup noodle bowls are less than $10 each, which is really value for people looking for a fast, cheap meal, which explains the huge lineup everyday. I ordered the BBQ duck with flat rice noodle and got served within 10mins. The BBQ duck as ok, but I would have liked it more if it had more flavour or sauce on it. The noodle was soft and smooth and it didn't break easily. The soup was pretty good as well, didn't taste like it had a lot of MSG which was good. Would come again if I'm in the area looking for a cheap eat. The waiters were pretty impatient, typical of many restaurants in the Chinatown area. It was decent sized soup noodles. What was surprising was that the wontons were nice and big!!!! The flavour of the soup was a bit bland. I came to this place every time my family paid a visit to Toronto. And even now as an adult I always have King's Noodle on my itinerary even if I am only in Toronto for a few hours. Great hours they open as early as 9 am and stay open until 1 am. Nice and Clean there has definitely been a remodel since the last time I have been here. It's usually a little noisy but that's to be expected considering the popularity of the restaurant. There's always a pretty mixed crowd every time I come here. During peak hours you may find yourself sharing a table but I feel like that is apart of the restaurant's charm. Plus this allowed us to be seated immediately, I was hungry and I really needed the BBQ Duck in my life so I don't complain. The staff is actually pretty friendly but they focus on SEATING and SPEED more than anything. You won't find a server hovering over you asking you if everything is ok every 5 seconds (I hate that anyway, let me eat my food dammit) so if you need something just get someone's attention they will be right over. They have a great extensive menu so there is sure to be something on the menu to please everyone. I see they use peanut sauce for quite a few dishes so look out for that in the description if you're allergic * I got the BBQ Duck Dry Noodle Plate $9.95 (comes with soup and veggies). The noodles were seasoned well. The broth is very savory you'll find yourself slurping every last drop even if you aren't a soup person. As for the bbq duck, the skin was nice & crispy the actual meat was tender, flavorful and juicy...prepared to perfection. Our bill was pretty cheap roughly was $33 (my boyfriend ordered the BBQ Duck & Wonton dry noodle plate and we also split some spring rolls). Once your done grab your bill and pay at the front counter but make sure you have cash they don't accept cards! Although they do have an ATM inside that has a $3.00 service fee. Found my new favourite place to come for rice rolls, congee and BBQ pork now! This restaurant is definitely a hidden gem located on the busy street of Chinatown! It's a great place to come with any time with any amount of people, because they have lots of seating available and super large menu variety. My friend took my to this place try out their super popular marinated roasted bbq pork rice bowl and rice roll~ they were just simply soooo delicious! The sweet sauce from the tender bbq pork mix super well the gene pies rice, you would want to keep eating more and more because it's so good. We ordered the "dish" size to share between 2 people, but also comes in a single serving "bowl" size as well. Also loved the super soft thin rice flour skin of roll that wrapped around a crisp deep fried donut, it's one of my new fave actually! You won't regret ordering it, cuz you can also see every table at least order one of these rice rolls. They also have choices of BBQ pork, or shrimp or other flavour or rice rolls that are super neat too! These rice rolls are already garnished with some green onions and small shrimps, and a sweet sauce, but I like dipping it with soy sauce as well! We were surprised that 1 portion of the rice roll comes in 3 super stomach filling rolls!
