let me star by saying as i am slowly getting back to yelping i have to remind myself to check-in AND take photos i was here for their soft opening and from day one this has been my go-to for noodles the staff are very attentive to us every time we come. the night shift manager already knows our faces and always walks up to our "spot" (same table every time ha ha). today the manager was not in but all was well as the staff was still very attentive to us. the restaurant has been adding new items which is great. today's order was taiwanese sausages (NEW); Classic Beef Noodles; Stir-fry Shredded Beef With Spicy Green Pepper Dry Noodle and Tomato Egg(NEW); Chicken Kebabs; and Dunhuang Lamb Pilaf big fan of taiwanese sausage as they were being grilled and they were served fresh off said grill. one bite and the juices will come out so be careful chicken kebabs had that spicy peppery flavor on it so if you are not a fan of spicy don't try (i've realized as i have been eating a lot of korean spicy nothing faze me anymore but for others that have not had korean spicy everything is spicy so don't take my word for it) my son had the soup as that is his favorite (he had his braces tightened so soup would help ease the pain) hubs had the lamb pilaf which was lamb fried rice (not too salty not too dry either i had the Stir-fry Shredded Beef With Spicy Green Pepper Dry Noodle and Tomato Egg which was a lot! you can customize the type of noodles (i went for wide) and add any additional toppings for an extra fee. not spicy and the tomato egg mix was not too runny and very flavorful (to me) no pics on the sausage or kebabs but i did added hub's and my dish give this place a go i have seen some negative reviews on google but i have nothing but the best experience in this place that treats my family like we are home. this restaurant is of northern chinese cuisine. i truly love this place and this is my absolute to go to spot when i want nothing but noodles!! read more

I came in for lunch near opening time! It wasn't terribly busy. Pretty much everything is done online-- viewing the menu, submitting your order, and even paying for the order. So there wasn't much interaction w/ the workers themselves. The noodles were great. The broth was flavorful, and the texture of the noodles was perfect. Overall, decent place. Very clean and welcoming. I probably wouldn't come again only bc I prefer talking to the servers. Came here with three others- one of them was a toddler. We ordered the lamb skewers, cabbage, Pan fried noodles, and wood ear mushroom salad. We realized that everything had some pepper on it, and that it was too spicy for the toddler. So we ordered plain noodles, but we never received it. The place was empty, but we had to flag down the waiter several times, which became a chore toward the end, especially when we were trying to get the noodles for the hungry toddler. OK: You need to bring a charged up phone to review menu, order, and update. This is mostly a noodle place so if you are a vegetarian, I didnt see any other vegetarian option except the vegan noodles. Ugly: Service - WAIT - what service? Yet they expect their 20% Tip. Echo the other commenter who shared about the awkwardness of tipping on the screen in front of them as they are looking at the screen to ensure you are tipping. We also were asked to leave our table and go towards the back to wait for our drink as other people were waiting for a table. Our orders were brought out pretty soon after which is great if you're on a time crunch. The Signature Lanzhou Beef Noodles were soothing, savory, with a super light broth. I think the broth could've used more aromatics while the regular noodles had a nice chewy and bouncy texture. The portion of thinly sliced beef could've been a bit better but still a decent quantity considering the price. I loved the garnishes and chili oil as well. The Pan Fried Lamb Noodles was also solid! The regular noodles were cooked well and this dish had plenty of lamb throughout. The lamb was tender and loaded with cumin, garlic, and ginger. My first time visiting Dun Huang! This is definitely a casual resturant where you get your bang for your buck! I would lable this as homecooked food at a reasonable price. A few things to note for newcomers: - No easy parking but very accessible by light rail - They don't take reservations and you put your name on a waitlist (via a tablet) as soon as you arrive - Orders are taken online via a QR code but payment is done through staff I tried the following dishes: Zha Jinag Noodles 4/5- Good balanced taste, but a little too salty for my liking Spice Oil Spill Noodles 4/5- I wish there was an option to add meat to this. Also wished it was spicier. Overall delicious though! Chinese Hamburger 3/5- Pork was soft inside the roll but a bit bland. Bubble tea 5/5- This took me by surprise but this was incredible! Is this place named after a city on the silk road? I'm pretty sure this noodle restaurant is a chain, but it's really top quality. Amazing decor inside and out, it's in the rich area of Newport where there's an amazing view of Manhattan. I came on a somewhat rainy day with a bunch of friends and somehow only spent $33 with ordering and splitting many types of noodle dishes. The braised beef noodle soup is somewhat similar to the Taiwanese dish, but the soup isn't as spicy. The beef is well seasoned and tender with a little bit of chewiness from the tendon. There are many options for the type of noodle. Can do thin, wide, wider , and extra thicccc. The way to order is very cool with a qr code and an app. The translations for the dishes are somewhat confusing. For example, lamb skewers were somehow translated to cordero skewers. The zhajiang noodles were very Q, which is kind of like Al dente and the minced meat pork sauce with beans is very good. The spicy potato dish could have been spicier, but the cool thing they had was deep fried pepper skins. Almost like potato chips. They do serve boba here, but my friend wouldn't recommend it since they aren't as chewy as XFT and a little hard in the middle. read more

I have tried the Lanzhou Noodles, the dry spicy lamb noodles, the lamb skewers, the "Chinese burgers", and the dumplings. Nothing has disappointed me. The staff are all attentive and kind, and they even let me practice my poor Mandarin with them by responding in Mandarin as well, haha. The value here is incredible; the portion size for what you pay is amazing. The restaurant itself is very clean and in an awesome location under The Beach apartments. If you're looking for a casual, spacious and family-friendly spot for a meal, this is the perfect spot. The restaurant offers a wide variety of northwestern Chinese cuisine, which includes flavorful broth and mouth-numbing spices. My personal favorites are Lanzhou beef noodles (warm), bean noodles (cold appetizer), and Moustrous Plated Chicken. My partner enjoyed the lamb skewer and pork bun. Most of the dishes were spicy, but there are also many non-spicy dishes, just look out for the chili pepper icon on the menu. Some of the entrees do come with noodles, so I would recommend asking the waiter what's included in the dishes before ordering additional items. Located in an unassuming spot in a nice neighborhood along the river, this place is great! The managers and servers were super nice and they were on top of refilling the water quickly, which was essential given the delicious spicy food here. We got the clear beef broth with noodles for the little one and he gobbled it up. For the adults we got the spicy braised beef soup with extra wide noodles, lamb skewers, braised lamb shoulder, and the dry potato slices. I have to say that the dish that stole the show was the potato slices. They were so damn flavorful if a little on the salty side (which I liked). That and the lamb skewers eaten together was just heaven. It's definitely not a flavor profile I am used to eating in America but it brought back memories of eating amazing food in western China. I don't see the potatoes talked about much in these reviews so consider trying them out! I will say that the braised lamb shoulder was tasty but the amount of meat was a bit lacking. They were all small pieces and a little too fatty. For the price I wish there were more meat. The beef noodle soup was delicious as well and if I were eating just that, I'd get an extra helping of extra wide noodles because it just wasn't enough given how great it was. Didn't really taste like hand pulled. As for the Service: the server sat me down on a table that wasn't wiped yet. I was just happy that I was seated quickly. They have a QR code on your table to order. The order goes to the kitchen and the server brings out your food. When it was time to pay, you couldn't just check out and pay on your phone through their portal. You had to request service on the portal and wait for them to come with the check. After waiting a while, I flagged down someone cleaning the table next to me and asked for my check. She then called my server, who was busy. So I had to go up to the counter and flag down another server to pay my bill. In front of me was another group who had to get up to pay their bill as well. The server laughed it off, like this was a common occurrence in their restaurant. Overall, not a great experience. We stumble upon this noodle house in downtown Jersey City while doing our daily walks when it was warmer. My Mandarin is limited, but I understood the words for 'tea' and 'water,' so I presumed he'd asked if I wanted to drink tea or water. I responded back with 'tea' in Mandarin. I sat down and placed my order, which I enjoyed, but when I asked the same guy to have the leftovers doggy-bagged in English, his attitude totally changed. He came back with my leftovers, and presented the electronic check without me asking for it. Then he told me to "just sign it" without even giving me a chance to review the total (I saw that he selected the 20% tip). Meanwhile, with the other people around me, when he was presenting them the electronic check, he was more lenient and said things like, "Take your time." And when they left, he'd yell out, "Have a nice day!" When I left, he didn't say jack. I don't know what's up with this guy, but it's like he has some kind of inferiority complex (iykyk), like he thinks I think I'm better than him in some way (I don't. I just want to eat good food). Or maybe he felt cheated when he thought I could speak Mandarin but changed to English to defy his dialect or to one-up him? Not every East Asian-looking person could speak Mandarin. This place seems to cater to Caucasians and Chinese-born folks. The guy was overly accommodating with them when I was there. The whole experience made me feel like an outsider and just felt rushed.
