It's found halfway along a quiet lane, so set back from the coast road, although it only takes a couple of minutes to walk down to the beach. You'll need to leave your car in the lay-by there too, although it's possible to park in the lane to load/unload. A large double bedroom and a modern bathroom are downstairs with the kitchen/diner and lounge (open plan) upstairs. Everything is clean, well equipped and comfortable with bedding and towels provided in the very reasonable price. We hunted around for ages and could find nothing as good value as this place. There is a good quality TV/DVD player, radio and lots of extras too, like books and games. The owners are very nice and helpful too. A wonderful and tranquil place to stay.

went to the snug in february 2010, myself my husband and the dog. really nice cottage with…read moreeverything you need. aptly named as once you got back there of an evening it was very hard to drag yourself away, beach is literally a stone's throw away great for exercising the dog. you will need a car to get into dunoon as it is too far to walk but its distance from dunoon is what makes it so peaceful and relaxing. weather was great while were there but we go every february and it always is. all in all a lovely break and we were sorry to leave which is exactly how you should feel after a holiday. highly recommended

It is a home with historical significance to the town, and the owners are more then happy to share it's history and their stories with you. Its an easy walk into town to try the local pub, visit the old jail, shop at the charity shops (there are 2!) or grab a bite to eat. A delicious breakfast is included in the bright and sunny dining room where you are well cared for by the owners. Rudha Na Craige and Inveraray were only a quick stop for one night at the end of our NC500 tour, but had we known how wonderful it was, we would have changed our schedule to stay longer!

A five star luxury complex of Swedish style chalets, apartments and houses, all clustered around, Loch Melfort, with stunning views of the Loch and surrounding area depending on which apartment you are staying in. The first time we stayed we were lucky enough to see Dolphins, which has stayed with me ever since. Luxury and tranquility spring to mind, all the apartments etc. have every appliance you could wish for, including Swedish Sauna, some/most have Jacuzzi baths. Dishwashers, washing machines, everything is provided, toe warming Log Burning stoves, (logs provided.) Sky TV restricted channels. Tiled underfloor heating, the list goes on. Recently they have opened a restaurant which I have heard rave reviews about but as I have not been I cannot comment. Not cheap to stay here but you get what you pay for in this case more, much more. Recharge your batteries, go for walks, try the amazing Shower of Herring Restaurant near by. Suitable for family get togethers, special occasions,Romantic interludes, or just to get out of the Rat Race. A truly unforgettable experience. They do have periodic special offers, but this place is so popular you need to book in advance, unless you get lucky and grab a cancellation, which are few and far between. Enjoy this place it is wonderful, once been never forgotten.

We stayed in one of the Golden Oak cabins, which comes with an outdoor hot tub, log burning fire and complimentary fluffy robes and slippers. Our cabin was a little back from the edge of Loch Long, but the views we had from both the hot tub and the living room were truly breathtaking. The staff at the forest retreat could not have been more helpful, and even took the wifi off of our final bill after it started misbehaving. All in all, it was a wonderful weekend in stunning settings, meaning that we're already planning out next trip back.

We brought back a bottle of wine one evening since there were wine glasses in the room and we enjoyed it on the outside side table and watching the sunset. Such a beautiful display of colors and such a tranquil setting. The breakfasts are quite tasty. It's only a quick walk down the hill to the city center. Simon and Anna are such lovely people, so friendly and helpful. One word of advice is follow the directions that Simon sends to you and you won't get lost.

In many cases you walk by, admire from a far, take a picture and move on. Well, this wasn't the case. Mackays Guest House, right in the heart of Oban picturesque waterfront. A beautiful property run by Iona Mackechnie who was the sweetest and loving soul. A warm Scottish smile greeted us upon arrival. Checking in was quite a breeze. Once inside, the foyer with its soothing calm beachy vibe and tartan pattern. Beautiful cool tones on the walls and throughout the property. We had room number 1 which was one of the ones downstairs. Once you walk in, it's pretty massive and spacious. Modern vibe with its cleans line and cool color palettes perfectly suitable for the sea. Nice comfortable bed awaits you as well as two plush comfortable sling back chairs with the million dollar view of the waterfront. Heater fireplace in front of the bed for those chilly nights which is a given. As well as the flatscreen television above. You also have your en-suite which is nice as a lot of places don't offer them. It's pretty spacious with plenty of room for sharing. Walk in shower, all your toiletries offered. To top it off, the warm Scottish welcome of their traditional drink the irn-brn soda and tea cakes were on the dresser. What a sweet little welcome treat. Location is just minutes from the beach. Walking distance from the main town where plenty of restaurants and shops are. The ferry and train station. There's parking available right in front but based on first come. Street parking also available along the front but not quite sure what the restrictions are. Mackays Guest House is a must if you're looking for a quaint weekend getaway or for a longer stay for that nice R&R break. Perfect location, friendly face, beautiful view of the waterfront, minutes from town and restaurant. An overall amazing experience. Highly recommend.

Our room (Room 4) looked out at Oban Bay. Which was very nice. After returning from dinner in town - which is a short walk away - we just sat in front of the great bay window in our room, drank tea, read, and watched boats sail by. The room was rather large and nicely decorated. Not only did our room have the window sitting area, it also had a separate sitting area between the king size bed and bathroom. I loved it because it was so close to Oban town centre but at the same time we had the feeling of being completely in the middle of nowhere as we were surrounded by hills and countryside. It was slightly scary arriving late at night and there was no mobile reception (but there's a red phone box nearby!). It was lovely getting up in the morning and breathing in fresh air. The door to the chalet was like a stable door so you could open the top half and lean out enjoying the scenery and there were chickens, dogs and ducks running around. The chalet was very comfortable and clean and the price was good when split between 6. There's a pub, The Barn, on site. This was very lively at night for a drink or two or three, and they served lovely meals. Highly recommended.

The old railway line runs right alongside side the hotel, but trains are only around two or three per day now. The hotel itself is atmospheric, and although in need of redecoration, is still worthy of a stop here. The staff and service could not be faulted, although the food was not great, it was not bad either. Entertainment is there in the evenings should you so wish to enjoy it, again it is of Scottish flavour, but your in the highlands - so why not! . A nice quiet hotel in lovely surroundings - if it's peace and quiet your after.
