French toast with sausage and eggs
Mike L.

Your average diner breakfast menu with above average quality. They have a lot of homemade items which really set them apart and keep you coming back for more. I love the French toast made with their homemade bread. The corned beef hash is great too if you like the canned style but want something superior. I really want to try their homemade donuts but they always sell out before I get there. I did hear a waitress say you could call ahead to reserve them so I will have to look into that next time. The only downside is dealing with traffic on Hoosick St.

Omelette home fries and toast

Ask any local where are the best diners in the area and I'm sure Duncan's will be on the list. It seems like it's a staple in the area and definitely has a home town vibe. When you first walk in there's a long bar style table that you can sit and eat, there's also a small dining area with checkered tablecloths. I think the thing they are most known for are the donuts and the cinnamon rolls. Which I can see why, the glazed donuts are amazing! If you order there they will even grill it for you! To me the glaze has a citrus flavor, but so so good. Toast does not seem homemade to me. Good sized portions. Always had great service, nothing really to complain about. This is a solid diner style place, nothing fancy but good solid food.

That's steam coming off the perfect poached egg. That's how hot it was delivered to the table, atop a half order of homemade CBH w/ toast.

Finally! This is a timely review, because you only have until tomorrow to make it to Duncan's... or wait until 2019. I'm going to be counting down until February 28, in the hopes that I'll finally be able to try one of their glazed donuts. Today, on my maiden voyage, I fell in love with the place. At a few minutes before nine in the morning, I was lucky to snag the last parking space. And when I walked in, I was fortunate to be able to snag a seat at the counter overlooking the flattop grill. There is no way you can watch this kitchen in action and not fall in love. Mostly, I was transfixed by the omelette station. And having watched the cook bang out over a dozen of these things, I want to come back with a posse and order one. While they aren't meant to feed a family of four, they could easily do so. And even though they are cooked on the flattop instead of a proper omelette pan, these aren't your typical rolled diner omelets. It's more like they are stacked. Which I realize doesn't make much sense, but it's a mesmerizing process to watch. The spinach one looked particularly appealing. On the flip side, you can also go small, and I appreciate that more than words can say. This morning I was able to get breakfast on a very human scale. It was a half order of the homemade corned beef hash, one poached egg, an order of Duncan's homemade toast, and a cup of coffee. The corned beef was delicious, but the onions still had a bit of a crunch, and I would have loved a little more crust on the whole thing. But those are small nits. The poached egg was perfect. More importantly I was able to finish--and enjoy--the whole thing without feeling gross. Watching the fellow on the poached egg station was inspiring. As was the other guy who manned a smaller flattop dedicated to scrambled and fried eggs. While I typically avoid diner scrambled eggs, having seen these, I might be tempted to give them a shot. Home fries were cooking down in a large cast iron skillet of their own. And the kitchen counters were just crammed with house made baked goods. There are tables tucked around the corner, for a proper sit down breakfast. But I may just find myself looking for excuses next year to head up Hoosick Road and pop in for a donut and a cup of coffee at the counter.

If you're looking for an old school diner feel this is your place!! It's cozy and has a small town feel. The walls are decorated with antiques and the diner counter is huge! We chose a table as we had 2 small children with us. The glazed donut of course caught my husband's eye. It was AMAZING! We one grilled and one regular. I honestly don't know which way I prefer it. The grilled one was obviously crunchier with a light buttery flavor. So yummy! I had the Hangover, which is a bacon, egg & cheese between 2 pancakes & a side of hash browns. It was all delicious. I love the sweet flavor the pancakes had. I am not the biggest fan of hash browns to begin with, but these had so much flavor and crunch they were hard to resist. I highly recommend trying Duncan's out for a family breakfast or a coffee and a donut at the counter!

Been coming to Duncan's for over 25 years and it's still as good as ever! Best service and home cooking, like mom used to make.

She explained the flavors and answered our questions. Unfortunately she was also degraded, demeaned, and micromanaged by the owner the entire time. The owner yelled at her upon our arrival and told her to "look busy" even though she was clearly about to serve us. The owner then made fun of her for saying the wrong term when asking if we wanted our ice cream in a cone or cup and humiliated her. It was so hard to watch and the environment was so hostile because of the owner. When we asked if they accepted tips, the owner was extremely rude and condescending toward us, saying they did not accept them. Lastly, when the poor girl was handing me the chance, the owner was forcing her to count out every coin and then counting over her. It was so odd. I will never go back and I will be sharing this experience with every friend and family member I know. Let this be a lesson to the owner to treat people, especially her employees, with KINDNESS.

I gave it four stars because it's not very easy to get into because although it's on a circle it's right on the very cusp of the end of the circle and you have to turn on a side street to get into the parking lot almost so it's not like you're turning into the parking lot but turning into a separate part of the road and then into the parking lot so it's a bit strange. Other than that customer service is great, as I said it is very clean neat friendly and they seem to have everything that you're looking for. The only thing that I would suggest that they start carrying is Coffee-Mate creamers, they always carry International Delight what is that normally if you carry one you'll carry another for example if you carry Pepsi you carry Coke in a store like Stewart's, so not Everyone likes International Delight creamers because there is no sugar or anything added into the International Delight creamers and the Coffee-Mate creamers are just a little better. So I guess this last part is kind of directed towards the owners or store directors managers or powers that be in the world of Stewarts chains, please start carrying Coffee-Mate creamers even a plain Coffee-mate creamer for work. Thank you so much for listening.

The Roosevelt Room in Troy was a great experience from start to finish. I was honestly expecting a standalone building, but it is tucked into a strip mall near HVCC. That said, parking was easy and stress free, which is always a plus. This was our first visit as a party of four, and the service was superb. The attention to detail really stood out and was noticed immediately. Our waitress checked in at the right times, kept drinks filled, and made sure everything came out exactly as expected. Meals are made to order, so substitutions were no issue at all, and it was nice to see gluten free options available. When you walk in, you pass through a curtain and are immediately greeted by a coat attendant who takes your coats, which instantly gives the place an upscale feel. The ambiance is well done, with soft lighting and nice background music. It is on the smaller side and dimly lit, but that is clearly intentional. The menus actually light up, which was a unique and thoughtful touch that fits the atmosphere perfectly. We had reservations and were seated right away. It did not seem necessary on this particular evening, but I would definitely recommend them on a weekend given the size of the space. The food itself was excellent. Everything we ordered was very tasty, and the presentation across the board was impressive. Desserts are prepared by a pastry chef and were just as good as the rest of the meal. It is definitely on the pricey side, but that is to be expected for the level of service and atmosphere. This feels like a special occasion type of place, and in that context, it is worth every penny. We really enjoyed our night and would absolutely come back. There was also a sign mentioning live jazz on Fridays, which sounds like a great added touch. Overall, a very strong 5 stars.

This is a lost service in the restaurant industry, but a lovely touch. We were seated in, what can only be described as, a room with phenomenal atmosphere. Low light, but you could see, comfortable seating, amazing art on the walls, and a perfect spot for a romantic dinner. The service was top notch. We were offered water immediately. They have a cocktail menu that included historical cocktails dating back to the 19th Century until present day. The cocktails were perfect. We had pre-ordered a half bottle of champagne. It was very good. We also ordered caviar service. It is 1 ounce with sour cream, egg whites, yolks, and onions. Fresh made Bellinis that were still warm. We enjoyed it immensely. It was a lovely compliment to the champagne. For an appetizer we enjoyed the escargot. We have had escargot in many places, rarely, if ever, was it as good at this was. The garlic butter was on point, the crusty bread was a great addition to the dish. It was served with tiny leaves of Swiss chard. We cannot recommend this enough. We ordered a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon from their extensive wine list, Stag's Leap. This wine paired perfectly with the filet mignon bordelaise, and the veal chop with cherry peppers. We had a visit with the chef, he was a wonderful representative of this amazing restaurant. We cannot recommend this place enough. It's a little spendy, but worth every penny. Service, 5 stars! Atmosphere, 5 stars! Food, better than 5 stars! We will definitely be back.
