One of my toilets wouldn't stop running, so I shut the water and called Dundee....Ian showed up less than 2 hours later, which I thought was terrific, as the situation was not emergent. He got right to work and replaced a worn fill valve, first giving me the choice to use the expensive Kohler brand part or a much-less expensive model, which he said does the same thing....up-front and honest. He also replaced the flapper with a new one that I had, again saving me a few dollars. My family has been in residence for over fifty years, and Dundee is here as long, so I always knew they must be good, but had a plumber in our family for most of that time. We've been using Dundee for many years, and they are super reliable, honest, and fair. We use them for every little plumbing thing that comes up, and for the rare big thing too. This past year our very old boiler gave way. When it came time fo get a new boiler, we used them, and are thrilled. It was amazing how high quality the whole installation was. I was surprised to see how many different people are involved because of the multiplicity of tasks required. I was also surprised at how customized it was, the way the pipes are specially fitted and shaped, etc. The cost of the whole thing was $7000. It seemed like a lot of money to me, but I decided to spring for that in order to get someone I really trust. Then after speaking to others, I learned that $7,000 was actually a low price :) Plus it included 5 years of free fall tuneup visits. Plus they did the paperwork to get me a $500 energy-saver rebate. And the new burner is beyond wonderful, extremely solid, and with great features. Dundee is great. read more

I've had nothing but positive experiences with Dundee over the past year. While they've fixed issues with the heating in my house in the past, I most recently used to them replace my nearly 20 year old water heater. As soon as I realized the heater died, I called their office and was told they could come by the next morning between 10 and 12. At 10 on the dot, Dundee was at my house and installed a new water heater within an hour. In addition to being less expensive than other plumbers I've contacted, they're personable and communicative. Dundee Plumbing & Heating was very responsive when I called shortly after they opened this morning. My son told me our hot water heater (gas) was leaking water. I left a message with Dundee and they returned my call promptly. In less than 2 hours the plumbers were in my basement assessing the problem and checking on the warranty. I was told they would return shortly with a replacement water heater. When they returned it took 40 minutes to get the damaged heater out and the new one in place and functioning. We have used Dundee Plumbing twice. When our former plumber was not available, although we were not previous customers, when we called Ian because we had a basement leak, he said he would check it out the next day. When we gave him our address, he said, "We're neighbors; I can come right away!" And he did! And he repaired the leaking pipe and the cost was very reasonable. Our home is old and the pipes are rusted and fragile. We'd just had our basement repainted when another pipe burst. It was a complicated job that involved cutting into the mail pipe and capping off the old one and again, Ian's workers came and did the repairs quickly, competently, neatly and at a reasonable price. After numerous calls with Joanne the secretary and the usual lame excuses. Oh they had an emergency last night, the guys worked all night and so on. Joanne must have had practice making excuses because she got me to call back several times. Joanne finally told me that she would call me. Well we all know what that means. Ian is the boss and while he is a very competent plumber he is also apparently very rude and short tempered. He replaced a kitchen faucet for me on my rental property and never mentioned that the hot water is not working. So when I called him back to fix it he was very short tempered on the phone, sarcastic and when he did finally show back up to repair it, rolled his eyes at me. I think they do decent work but would appreciate more without the nasty attitude. read more

I needed to do an oil to gas conversion on a newly purchased home. I did not want oil at the house as I am not used to having that and it would be more efficient to use gas instead of oil. I had them come in for an estimate in mid March of 2012. Ian was the serviceman that came into give an estimate and he was a bit early too before I arrived at my house. He looked at the oil tank in the garage, the oil furnace/boiler that includes the water heater, and the gas meter in the meter room. He gave a rough estimate of about $7,300 and I mentioned Angie's List and he took another $50 off for a final estimate of $7,250. He said it would be an all day job, which would be like 8:30AM-4PM. He took down my information and e-mail address and the next day, I believe the administrative assistant sent over the estimate that was described in detail what it includes, such as a new gas boiler, water heater, digital thermostat. It also includes removal of oil tank and the current oil furnace/boiler and all debris and to sweep clean the area before leaving, and includes filling out the paperwork with National Grid and obtaining the $500 rebate for the new boiler and $25 rebate for the new digital thermostat for becoming efficient. I originally had scheduled another plumber to come into my house to give an estimate, but called and left a voicemail to say that they could not make it due to an emergency that came up and for me to call them to reschedule. Guess it was their loss because I liked Ian when he showed up for the estimate and I was pleased with the detailed estimate I received the next day. I had confirmed with the next day after I received the estimate and signed the contract and faxed it back to them and called the receptionist to give her my credit card information to leave a 30% deposit prior to them doing the work. And also scheduled a day for the following week to do the actual oil to gas conversion. After leaving deposit, they said an asbestos inspector, Ralph, will be calling to schedule an appointment ASAP to do the inspection. After playing a little phone tag, he was able to do it the same night. And it took only 5 minutes because all he did was look at the oil furnace/boiler to see if there was sign of asbestos. There was none because it was a fairly new one. He took a picture so he could file the paperwork with National Grid and the city. Then, the following week I get a call about chimney cleaning that they subcontract out to Sure Heat to do. It was done on a Saturday and they call the same morning to confirm an exact range of time so I know to be there. That took about 15-30 minutes to get done. The day comes for the actual oil to gas conversion. Ian and his team came and they were on time at 8:30AM as promised. They removed the oil tank from the garage and the oil furnace/boiler and all the pipes that was for the oil in the garage. I'm glad they did that so the oil company can't come in and mistakenly try to fill up oil and spill it all over my house when I don't have an oil tank anymore. The removal and installation didn't seem to take that long. They then installed the new gas boiler and water heater and connect the gas pipes from the meter room where the gas meter was all the way to the back of the basement where the boiler was. They did a clean job doing the piping along the heat pipe. Now, all I need is to have the pipes boxed off so it's not naked to the eye. Also, they installed a new digital thermostat in the living room and left the small user manual with me. They also left the owner manual for the boiler on the boiler. They only took about a half an hour lunch around 2PM. And the work was done by 4PM like they had originally said. They are so on time. And I am impressed! In conclusion, Dundee Plumbing & Heating, Inc. did an excellent job doing the oil to gas conversion. And most importantly, they did a very clean job and cleaned after themselves! I'm glad I had them do the conversion for me. I will be using them in the future if any issues come up. They also said that they cover for 5 years for them to come back each fall to make sure the heating and everything is working fine for the winter. read more

Had them install a new gas boiler 14 months ago and it was installed incorrectly according the to manufacturer. 5 hours after the installation, the boiler shut off. Robert, the owner couldn't figure out why. He then had to call tech support. Apparently, no combustion test was done. The venting was not installed correctly either. This has cause me problems and a lot of $$. I would not recommend them. read more

Horrible service! Stay away. The owner came to my house to fix a problem I was having with a leaking faucet. He arrived in a bad mood and was gruff when I let him in at the door. He then goes inspects my leak and informs me that he is NOT going to do any work because he may break something and he doesn't want to be liable. All of this was said with extreme attitude. I asked him to at least look at it and not twist the pipes extremely hard if that was the case and he refused. Meanwhile I described the situation to him over the phone before he arrived and he said it was no problem. Not sure what his REAL issue was but he completely wasted my time and did not resolve my issue. In addition he had a horrible disposition and would not be someone I would let in my home again. Be careful who you allow in your home. This owner is unprofessional. Use another plumber with better feedback and avoid the hassle. read more

This guy should be arrested for fraud. He came to our house to fix an American Standard toilet. He made three trips to the office to "get parts". Why a plumber does not carry standard parts to repair a toilet is beyond me. His bill was $500 to my aging mother. Five hundred dollars for a toilet repair?
