This station is on the South Shore line to and from Chicago and is very convenient for those who live near it. There is plenty of parking, and the area is safe and well lit. Thee is only one platform, so you get on and off on the same side. The trains arrived and departed on time both times I traveled on it. Reliable and highly recommended!

Easy access to Chicago. Such an easy process and the trip was so smooth. Will use this station on my next trip to the office.

There's the tiny building filled with uncomfortable chairs. There's the ticket agent who's neither friendly nor rude. There are the tearful reunions at the tracks. OK, I made that last one up, but tearful reunions in the muddy parking lot doesn't sound right. One time when I was visiting South Bend, the train schedule worked out (or didn't work out) so that I wouldn't be able to get all the way to South Bend in time to spend time with my dear friend Jen W. So she very generously offered to meet me in Michigan City. This was when Indiana still didn't have Daylight Saving Time (and it was confusing because the state has two time zones, and one of them does change), and because my friend lived in Granger, she got here an hour early. Our reunion was grand, and teary on her end. We were so engrossed in our conversation that we didn't realize she had made a wrong turn on the way back to South Bend. I really like this station, especially because it reminds me of Jen W. and our Michiana misadventures. OK, they weren't misadventures, but alliteration is fun when you're in the Midwest. Oh, and for you geography buffs, Michigan City, Indiana, is not in the region known as Michiana. How ridiculous is that? About as ridiculous as East Chicago being in Indiana, I would say.

The old system had fobs that they never gave me even though I made 3 seperate trips to try to get it during business hours. Finally with their new system I to a sticker. Unfortunately it doesn't work and they only gave me one when I have 2 cars. City of Evanston will give you tickets for no registration sticker even though its not on the street. Terrible god damm service. Avoid at all costs. Just today they threatened me by forever banning me from the site and screamed at the lady through the payment kiosk help button to not remotely open the gate. He tried to have me login to prove my parking account exists, but the lady was scared of the yelling and opened it. I left screaming out the windows ban me its literally my last day in Chicago. Adding on: I called and they apologized saying it was their mistake on their systems. Regardless the disrespect from the employee was insane. Wasn't even clear he was an employee for the first minute of that tense interaction. When they switched to the new system. They tried to look me up and found my monthly account paying $175 a month but still asked me to pay the daily rate to open the gate since I didn't have the sticker. It was literally over $1 they were trying to hassel me over even though I pay $175. In the in between I changed it over to just the single garage (Maple) instead of the 3 car garage. Again over their mistake they decide they'll ruin my mood. Im the last guy to leave reviews especially bad ones but the disrespect left me furious. Again I am not the type to leave a review. It seems if you know nothing about the area, you can be easily confused and lost. The State park actually is in the National Park boundary. The volunteer at the visit center gave us many hiking options. We ended up choosing the Bailly Homestead and Chellberg Farm. Both for the history aspect of it and the great hiking trails. It had three loops, a smaller one about .63 mile, a larger one about a mile, and the big loop approximately 2.4 miles with runs into the Calumet Trail. All are pretty easy walks. If your looking for a great hike in the Dunes area definitely give the Bailly Homestead a look. It has a decent size parking lot and restrooms. I'd also highly suggest stopping by the National Park Visitor Center as it is very close by.

There's a parking lot, picnic tables, restrooms and other park facilities at the trailhead. Check out the map of the trails-and take a pic for reference on your phone. There are a few different trails and spurs that you can take. I like the loop that takes you through the Chellberg Farm, to the Bailey Cemetery and then have a beer or snack at the Homestead. That's about a two mile loop. If you'd just like to see the Homestead straightaway, park down by the Little Calumet River that it overlooks-three lefts from the parking lot. Easy parking down by the fishing hole and just a short walk up the hill to the Bailey Homestead. This was an 1820s fur trading post. This was the NorthWest back in those frontier days. Can you imagine? You can see what a perfect location it is. For me it's a perfect spot for a boozy picnic. Cheers!
