This motel is conveniently located on Sunset Blvd. It has a parking lot located in the middle of the property with rooms along 3 sides and only one entrance/exit. The office is at the entrance and has a security guard monitoring cars entering the premises at night. It is a two story property with exterior stairs going to the second floor. My room was nice and clean with a good working a/c and a tub/shower. The bed was comfortable with daily maid service and a wall mounted TV. I booked this hotel for an easy recovery nearby after my eye injection, and to spare my wife the drive back home in the mist of rush hour traffic. We've passed this place on numerous occasions, headed east on Sunset, shortly after exiting the 101 Fwy. And not quite the hole-in-the-wall one might expect. Its actually quite popular with out-of-towners; nothing like certain comments about "hookers and drug addicts" hanging out here. I paid $138.00 for one night, so hardly the place for a quick in and out! Cheap for Hollywood during the summer months though. Check-in was a little slow, as I waited behind a young couple in the tiny lobby area. But totally friendly clerk behind the desk. I should have requested a room upstairs though, the guests above us sounded like they were on a walkathon for about an hour, but they eventually settled down. Now the rooms are rather small, with no frills. There is a flat screen tv mounted on the wall with great cable reception and a refrigerator, but no microwave or even a coffee maker. Clean though, with a decent bed; definitely nothing plush but my back hasn't gone out yet as I write this; well after midnight. The Mrs. seems to be having no problem making zzzzzs right next to me lol. Free wifi and parking too. An okay one night respite. read more

First of all description wise the "popular" restaurant is still closed and nobody knows when or even if it will reopen. And I do not see any boutique motel style at all. That said I still give it four stars since it really surprised me. I booked it since it's a perfect location for what I needed to do business wise it's close to all what you wanna do and I could even walk to shopping and restaurants. There are plenty. I was here on a business trip so I didn't really cared about big rooms (they are not) or any high tech (they have not) or even design (well not much there as well). But I wanted a good shower (all amenity where brand items like kohlet tub and moen shower head) and a good bed (was really surprised by the firmness of the bed without being hard) I always travel with my own pillow but the provided pillow made a good impression. There is a mini fridge to hold some small things cold. Enough for a couple days stay. And very important it's clean and free of any weird people around. Also plenty of parking at least I always found a spot. So I was positiv surprises and would come back when I'll just need to use a bed. read more

This affordable Inn just off the 101 Fwy at the corner of Wilton Pl and Sunset Blvd near Target only a block down on Western and close to the Metro Redline and loads of connecting services has great management, service and rooms. The beds are very comfy, the bathrooms and setup are slightly updated and parking is super easy especially during the day and afternoon (definitely fills up fast on weekends and after 8pm). Stayed here two nights recently with a friend visiting from out of town and had a great time. We stocked up on snacks, fruit, etc via Tarjay and 7-Eleven (both within walking distances). Check-in as well as out was super easy... Even getting a few extra towels and what not were plenty smooth. Nice large flat screens mounted in ever room and plenty of closet and storage space for luggage. They have a few beverage vending machine and a small diner/cafe apart of the Dunes Inn open during the day. Dune Inn has good Wi-Fi however the Triple A signs still apart of the building are not up to date as current management does not except this discount (might change back in the future). The AC is powerful as is the water pressure for the shower. We missed out on maid service as we forgot to take the sign off the door and since they're currently hiring they're a touch short staffed and usually only able to provide cleaning during the daytime/afternoon before 3... Although small, the rooms are clean and recently remodeled. This is a very affordable place to stay in a great location near many places of interest. The adjacent restaurant was closed during our stay but a Starbucks is a short walk away. A Shell station and Target are also very close, and a laundromat is next door. Con: Why owners install harsh overhead can lights instead of table or wall lamps is beyond me. These overhead lights are harsh, not dimmable, and not suitable for reading or TV viewing. I had to use the ceiling lights with their cold lightbulbs. The ambience is 0/10. Then in the morning light pours in through the blinds at 6am and there's no way to darken the room. Cons: noisy due to street traffic, internal noise from other guests and undetermined equipment noises that went on and off all night. Pillows are not so soft. read more

I stayed at the one they have on Wilshire during the summer and the stay played a factor in needing to stay closer to the Hollywood Area. The check in process was quick-the staff were friendly. The room was spacious and clean. The Tv was a little dated as it was not a smart tv and local channels were not great to keep entertained. Do not stay here! I had the misfortune of staying here for a whole week while my apartment was undergoing some work. This place is an absolute dump with a semi fresh coat of paint and ultra cheap furnishings, IMO! Let's start from the top, the bed! Ugh, the hardest mattress I have ever slept on in my entire life. Seriously my back was a mess for a week. If you are lucky enough to avoid the second floor stairs you will be entitled to hear all the plumbing from the upstairs unit, it's so loud! Front desk staff are pretty useless and not very smart! Not rude mind you, just dumb and un empowered. Honestly it's most likely lack of training and a bad owner. Other Hotel guests included numerous "sex-workers" doing in-calls on property, a 1% motorcycle gang, and a few terrified family's. Now for the prize.... As you can see from the pictures, I found a lovely gift courtesy of the housekeeping staff and management. Upon one last look around the room before check out I found this beautiful crystal meth kit with accessory smoking pipe under the bed. What would have happened if the owner of the crystal meth came to retrieve their property???? When I turned in said "meth kit" to the front desk, I received a "sorry" that's it, no follow up! Sorry I didn't take pics after the maid service but the room was impeccable. Management was nice. We checked out and about an hour later realized my daughter left her wallet in her room. We live in Orange County but we're going to the Greek for a concert and didn't want to have to drive home late at night so we got a room here. Check in was a breeze, front desk was polite and prompt. The room was very clean and the ac worked like a champ, the room was kind of small but we were just using it for an overnight. It's in a great location. There is a 7-11, CVS, Target and Starbucks within walking distance. The neighborhood is pretty safe but I wouldn't want my wife or daughters walking around by themselves at night, it's still LA. The price was definitely right and the room was great for our needs. If we goto the Greek again we'll for sure stay here again. read more

Certainly not a 4 star hotel, or the most romantic place to go on your 30th birthday. Plans were to stay the the Beverly Hills hotel for the weekend and celebrate in style. After realizing I would rather spend the $500+ on bottle service at the club, I went with booking the Dunes Inn as a hidden deal on priceline, 3 star hotel in Hollywood $60 by far the best deal anywhere. Seeing as it in borderline in Little Armenia, it is not right super centrally located, but it was less than a mile from the club du jour and left us plenty of money for food and drinks, not the way my husband would have spent the day, but I feel less guilty shopping and dining all weekend, knowing that we saved a bunch. The rooms were newly renovated, very clean, service was great, parking free, really nothing to complain about. Everything worked fine in the room, it even had a mini fridge/freezer, what more do you really need? If you spend a lot of time In the room, you might want to find another hotel, but for going out it is ideal and I would come here again. read more

Overall I had a very good experience here. Lots of parking, it also has a layout that looks like: [ (like this bracket) so creepy transients and homeless can't walk thru the property, they generally stay away which was fantastic. They also have lots of cameras outside. The rooms were alright, bathrooms were very nice, the a/c is loud which I like because it drowns out the noise outside from sunset blvd. Cable tv and internet were great. My only complaint is that the pillows were hard as bricks, so luckily I have my own foam pillow which I bring with me in case this happens, also the top blanket is not soft and sort of one of those tacky bed top covers, which can be a cheap fix for the hotel to make rooms appear much nicer. Overall had a great stay and would stay again. For the price it's great, but of course if you want to pay more there's better options out there. read more

Dunes is what you would expect for the location and price. What confused me is the check in time- the phones in the room say 12pm; however, there's a tiny sticker that says 11am in the check in area. Also, I don't understand why there was a $100 hold on my credit card- no one informed me of this. It was also really hot in the room, and the AC box was a little outdated. Dunes inn sunset exceeds what you would expect from budget accommodation. Located close to Hollywood boulevard and the vine and it's close proximity to gas stations, cafes, restaurants, and supermarkets makes it an ideal place to stay at while staying in L.A.. A 30-40 minutes walk from here will take you to Hollywood boulevard where you have the dolby theatre, Chinese theatre and the hop on hop off buses run by starline. While walking, make sure to look out for the famous Hollywood sign on the Hollywood hills. I booked the accommodation via a travel agent but was able to confirm details directly with the resort instantly via email. Check in is from 2.30pm and is easy. I chose the room downstairs. Parking is free and included. My room had a large bed, a nice toilet with bath, a fridge, large lcd screen tv, lots of lights, towels, and amazing heating. The place was very clean. And everyday as soon as I left the room and put the "maid" sign out, I saw the cleaners walk in immediately to clean the room. You cab hear people upstairs and outside so sound proofing isn't good. Additionally, the blinds don't have curtains and the outside lights are quite bright, so I woke up a couple of times in the night thinking it was daylight. My phone wasn't working and the cable was immediately replaced. I was even able to book an airport shuttle for 20 bucks. Much cheaper than the airport. Would gladly stay here again. We just so happened to come at a time while remodeling was taking place, so tarps, paint buckets and such were scattered about the walkways in certain parts. The rooms are quite small and come w a little fridge, no microwave and no iron. The front desk has the iron and you can borrow it, however, they don't have an ironing board to go w that iron! SMH The office gives you your remote as well and in order to check out, you have to turn it back in. Unfortunately, due the remodeling, around 10am w/o warning, they shut off the water so the shower/sink/toilet didn't work. THANKFULLY, we were up way earlier and had already handled washing our unmentionables, but still!! No water?! I never walk barefoot in a hotel room, the carpets are usually grimy, and this time my theory proved right! My socks were FILTHY when I took them off. Just like my star rating says "Eek! We paid $159/night for this hotel (motel, actually, doors open to the outside) on a weekend in April from Hotels.com. It's got good reviews over there and at the time of this writing, on Yelp, too. The hotel is located right on the cusp of a good neighborhood and a slightly less good neighborhood. The parking is free, and there were about as many spots as rooms, so it's unlikely they'd run out. The room was small, and dated. We requested a room on the top floor as far away from Sunset as possible for noise, and while we could definitely hear cars and sirens when they went by, we did manage to sleep like babies thanks to the ultra comfy, soft bed. This hotel is very bare bones. No bedside lamps on the nightstands. No outlets near your head for charging your phone overnight. No lotion included in the toiletries. The soap was 1/4 the size of a regular bar and called "deodorant soap". It broke up the second you touched it. The air conditioner is a regular sized window unit, located in the open closet on the upper shelf. Also, the room had a very faint smell. My husband thought it was urine. I think it was cheap cleaning products- or someone trying to cover up that they'd been smoking in the room. (The smoke detector was covered with a black trash bag) But, given how expensive things are in LA and how close this is to a variety of tourist attractions (A $5-6 Uber from the furthest spot from here on the Hollywood Walk of Fame), it felt like it was deserving of 3 stars. I give them ONE STAR for charging my card TWO MONTHS prior to my stay even though Hotels.com expressly said "no money charged until check-in". I was okay with the $1 "ghost charge" to make sure my card was real. The $119.23 & shitty attictude, I was NOT ready for! When I called the Dunes whoever answered told me matter-of-factly "Hotels.com says we can charge for one night" to which I replied "yes, AFTER October 23rd & only IF I don't show up". He continued to lie saying "that is their policy sir!". I called Hotels.com who profusely apologized that I was lied to by whoever was working August 21st at 1:15 Pacific time. MY reservation I was actually looking forward to has now been cancelled. I hope they return my money soon. Clean room and no signs of any bugs. 1 Updated bathroom. 2 fridge in room 3 no bugs 4 LOCATION 5 priced right (not the cheapest but close) Finally I want to give you a idea of the location. Perfect! I came down form the bay to check out the Roots at the remodeled Palladium but the best time I had was at the Dunes Motel...WORD! Just what the weekend ordered. Perfect walking distance to stumble to and from the venue. Very easy access for "newly made friends" to find when coming to enhance the party...oops did I say party. How can you not with a red light in the bathroom and mirrors on the wall next to the bed. To me the Dunes is what motels on Sunset are all about. They make you give a $5 deposit for the remote if you pay cash so I paid with cash just to guarantee I had some money left on the way to the airport. This property is ridiculously overpriced but good luck finding a better inn in LA for any cheaper. You don't wanna stay there if you value your safety. One issue I had here was that the room was tiny and the keys didn't work at first. Also some rude European tourists literally cut in front of me to get their non working room keys fixed. And the dude did nothing nor did he apologize. But after that everything was pretty much okay. The parking lot is huge and had plenty of spots, the rooms were clean and not horribly outdated. I think I'll stay here again but I wish it were cheaper because a comparable room in the Bay Area (where I stay a lot) is like $40-80.
