What a great spot! It has ample parking and is easy to find (especially with the Yelp app). I was…read morehere for a cuppa coffee and a snack, just to pass some time while Smokin'Hubster got some dental work tackled. The staff is friendly, the menu is interesting and expansive. If I had more time, I would have tried more or even placed a to-go order. As it was I found a comfy chair and knit for about forty-five minutes, even showing my work to a few curious locals. Moose-Jackson is cozy and friendly, perfect for catching up with a friend or bringing the office staff for Friday treats.

Well, we felt over-caffeinated and hungry so plans cha fed and we decided to order lunch instead. After finishing our delicious meal, we ordered dinner to carry out. This cafe is a local gem. Totally different vibe than Contrast Coffee's which was modern, sleek and seemed to attract lots of younger folks. Contrast seemed more to be the place one might choose with just coffee. A sweet treat or something light with coffee. MJC has a very up-north, laid back, comfy feel. It beckons you to grab a table or comfy chair and stay a while. Its vibe might resonate with families, friend groups, seniors, artists and health conscious foodies. The menu offered so many choices: soup, salad, wraps, paninis and pizzas. Many choices in each category, all with the freshest of ingredients, combined creatively, focused on flavor and presented really well for such a casual place. It had a farm-to-table feel. Confident the sauces and dressings were made from scratch. We ordered two wraps and a salad to share and were warned that it might be too much food for two. It definitely would have been. Thankful for this tip. We shared a summer special Mad Hatter panini with chicken, mushrooms and provolone. It was amazing. The mushrooms were perfection. We also shared a Central salad which was so full of delightful add-in like cranberries and cashews. The salad dressing was wonderful. As an after thought, we decided to share a bowl of the soup of the day: chicken and dumplings. So full of chicken, veggies and small dumplings. Delish. We took home a cold club wrap for dinner and the Lynne Lu salad. The dishes were wrapped with such care. We really appreciated the friendly and knowledgeable staff. If we lived here, MJC would be a go-to spot for breakfast and brunch. The homemade desserts looked fabulous. Will need to return on another trip to this area to try them with a mocha which brought us to MJC's

Our 4th pasty in our quest to compare and consume…read more Jean Kay's is a teeny tiny shop on a side street and can barely hold 6 people in front of the register. There are a few more options for pasties here, including chicken and broccoli, and dessert flavors. Their beef pasty is different than all the other pasties we tried, as they use flank steak. As is traditional, potatoes, onions, and rutabaga were the other ingredients. This was the first pasty I tried where I could see the onions, so I picked them out when I came across them (my kryptonite). The steak was a little chewy, and the seasoning was almost undetectable. Also, the pastry, although well baked, fell apart after a few bites. To be fair, though, we waited probably a good 30-45 minutes to eat it. This wasn't my favorite pasty, but I wouldn't mind returning to try a chicken and broccoli and a dessert one. Maybe on my next trip up north. 21/2025

My grandmother taught me to make pasties like she did for her dad. Jean Kay's pasties are out of this world. Flakey crusts, tasty ingredients inside, and made with Iron Mountain pride and love. I ate the breakfast bacon and egg pasty and bought chicken and broccoli. I bought the partially cooked/frozen because this place sells out quickly. I traveled to Chicago with the pasties two weeks later and they were as good as made that day. One pastie fed two of us. I guess it is all about your appetite. The pasties can be purchased cooked or partially frozen. Both are equally great!! If you are driving near Iron Mountain, you must stop and purchase the pasties! Have fun deciding which to purchase.
