BTW, they still serve fried dough in infinite varieties but this Rhode Island stalwart would rather keep that on a need to know basis. Fun fact... Rhode Islanders eat more donuts per capita than any state in the US. Engorged waistlines aside, Bess Eaton is everything Dunkin' isn't namely, fast, clean and cheap. While Dunkin' has radically expanded their menu forcing order completion times to infinity and beyond, Eaton has kept things simple meaning your hot coffee isn't iced by the time it delivers your morning fix. Unfortunately, a pit stop in Rhode Island is a bit of a detour on my daily commute but ole' Bess remains a sought after destination when I do return to the State of Rhode Island and the now deleted Providence Plantations. We ordered three nitro cold brews and they were all delicious, some of the better coffee we've had in RI! The space itself is very open, comfortable, and has plenty of seating, making it a cool spot to relax or hang out. We're looking forward to coming back to try their cocktails and food. It was a rainy afternoon, and my grandma and I rolled into their ample parking lot to get some coffee and a midafternoon snack. The barista was upbeat and knowledgeable about the menu, recommending their house made Pumpkin Spice Latte (I had to try it!). I am so glad I did, because theirs is made with pumpkin puree, so it's not sugary or cloying like other varietals you may be familiar with. We were also informed that all their baked goods are made fresh daily, and I was pleased to see the pastry case was clean as well (this is a less common occurrence unfortunately, than you would think). We tried the Blueberry Muffin, and it was FABULOUS! I am already looking forward to going back and trying more. Don't be fooled by the humble roadside plaza exterior- Fuel is certainly worth the stop.
