My recent weekday afternoon visit to Fuel Coffee Bar showed me how an independent coffee shop can deliver excellent service through its dedicated approach to managing its business operations. My first impression of the room hit me through its espresso scent that filled the entire space. The modern design of the space creates an environment that supports both focused work and relaxed socializing through its streamlined design. The shop maintained a peaceful atmosphere because I was the only customer present which enabled me to study the surroundings at my own pace. The space appeared to be perfectly clean because a staff member was busy cleaning the floor which showed that the establishment maintained cleanliness as a fundamental requirement. The shop maintained a quiet atmosphere which only included the soft sounds of the espresso machine and its periodic loud noises. The staff members delivered fast service while maintaining a friendly attitude. The staff members welcomed me as soon as I entered the building and they explained all menu options to me because I did not know what to order yet they did not attempt to persuade me to choose any specific item. The staff members allowed me to create my own drink which I found to be a useful feature. The staff members permitted me to create my own drink because I needed to follow my specific requirements. I chose to order a large iced mocha latte with an extra espresso shot. The staff members finished my order within three minutes which they executed successfully because most businesses find it difficult to create this level of operational efficiency. The espresso shot produced a rich chocolate flavor which tasted smooth and fresh without any harsh notes. The drink maintained an equal distribution of coffee and chocolate flavors because neither ingredient overpowered the other. read more

Went here while on summer trip w friends, and was told would be really good coffee and pastries. Well, inside is really cute and good seating, barista wasn't exactly friendly but wasn't rude either. I have driven by Fuel so many times and seen it pop up on my Yelp recommendations, however, never had the opportunity to visit until recently. I am so glad we did, because this is definitely a new favorite spot and worth the drive over the bridges! It was a rainy afternoon, and my grandma and I rolled into their ample parking lot to get some coffee and a midafternoon snack. The shop is sparkling clean with plenty of seating at cafe tables and a cozy couch section. The clientele was a mixture of students from URI and professionals working remotely. All were sipping lattes and seemed happy - a good vibe right from the get go. The barista was upbeat and knowledgeable about the menu, recommending their house made Pumpkin Spice Latte (I had to try it!). I am so glad I did, because theirs is made with pumpkin puree, so it's not sugary or cloying like other varietals you may be familiar with. We were also informed that all their baked goods are made fresh daily, and I was pleased to see the pastry case was clean as well (this is a less common occurrence unfortunately, than you would think). We tried the Blueberry Muffin, and it was FABULOUS! I am already looking forward to going back and trying more. Fuel Coffee Bar has the absolute best iced latte I've had in a while. The large size is huge and they don't drown your drink in ice. Their hot coffee is amazing. The pastries are delicious, especially the cinnamon roll. Service is fast and friendly. I will come back here again and again when I'm in Narragansett. read more

Canister for oatmilk was empty, so my sister asked for some. Person working gave a rude sigh and handed her a full unopened carton of oat milk. So that was weird. Asked for vegan scones, girl said "we don't have vegan scones". What are those that say "vegan" on the label?"Oh those are vegan MUFFINs". Ok well whatever (the muffins and scones look very much alike).....don't be helpful, whatever you do. Then we were eating our vegan "muffins" and coffee with oat milk, and somebody was literally mopping the floors around us with strong smelling soap. Weird. Odd to be mopping floors in a coffee shop with customers in it. Maybe wait until shop is closed. Customer service is not very customer servicey. Excellent coffee shop. Fantastic selection of coffee flavors and they also offer smoothies. Prices aren't too steep & they have a punch card reward program. We were in town for three days and visited often enough that we were able to fill up that card. 'Nuff said. Staff is nice/indifferent enough to make it feel like a true coffee spot and the pastries looked great. Always busy but always seating outside in the expansive porch, too. read more

One of my favorite coffee shops! If I lived here year-round, I would 100% stop in multiple times a week. If you're an iced coffee fanatic like me, all you really need to know is -- they literally have an iced coffee WALL full of unsweetened flavored and non-flavored coffees to choose from. It's a DREAM. Plus, their milk/cream selection is the most expansive I've ever seen (coconut milk?!), and you hardly everrrr see the pricier milks, like oat, just sitting out for customers to use as much as they'd like. Really, really love that. They also have great snacks and baked goods! Staff is so friendly and the prices (and cup sizes!) are excellent. Just do yourself a favor and go. read more

This place has awesome pastries and great tasting lattes. There is some seating inside but it's limited.

I ordered this medium pumpkin spice latte with almond milk and it was over $8. The color was very light and it did not taste like it had espresso in it. I previously ordered the same exact thing and the pumpkin flavor was much stronger and it looked darker as well. When I explained why I was unhappy with my order they tried to charge me another $2.50 to correct the proportions in the drink. I said no thanks because I didn't want to pay $11 for a latte that should have been made correctly the first time. Aside from the quality of the latte, employees were not the friendliest. I've been to Fuel before without issue but I can't say I'll be returning! The pictures below show the clear differences between the same exact order on two separate occasions. This is a fabulous coffee bar! I stopped by here with not much to do on a weekday morning, and got a mocha latte and cinnamon roll pastry. The workers were inviting, kind, and busy! The inside has plenty of seating, but the porch outside was where it was at! They had great music on the speakers and it was the perfect place to enjoy your food and coffee outside. I didn't order the iced coffee, but there was a serve yourself coffee bar with 10-20 different flavors, looked like that was the move! read more

I love this place. You get to customize your own coffee. It has a warm inviting ambience. I stop in every time I'm in the area.

I don't drink coffee or other coffee products, but my wife says that the lattes are first rate at Fuel Coffee Bar, thought she's not a big fan of their coffee (she just spent 5 minutes explaining the difference.) She LOVES the scones -- especially the triple berry scones -- and I've had the chocolate scones too. They are worth a trip to the shop to buy. I'm not as keen on the other pastries, however. The croissants are not flaky enough and have too much of a bready consistency. Bagels are meh. I'm not a fan of the sandwiches as they are indifferently made and I believe that they are microwaved to heat up (though don't quote me on that last point). In any event, the last time I bought a breakfast sandwich, it was not very good. So come for the coffee and scones. Pass on the sandwiches and croissants. Came here for a mid-day pick me up while on a training session at the URI campus. There were only a few options to choose from that were within a quick driving distance and this place was the best option. I ordered the Iced Matcha--prices were pretty fair. My small iced matcha was around $5. It was a good drink, but I've definitely had better matcha. There was more milk than matcha powder, which watered down the matcha. Recently, I was in Narragansett for a weekend with friends. We stopped in this adorable little coffee shop on our first morning to grab a bite and get a caffeine fix. To put it simply, it was so good, that we came back a second time in our short stay in the area. First, the atmosphere. It's simple yet just the right amount of "cool". The menus are printed on surfboards. Come on. The service was phenomenal. I interacted with probably 4 different women (yes - it seemed to be all women working here) and every one of them was cordial, happy, and knowledgeable. They all genuinely seemed happy to be working there. In fact, one of the girls finished her shift while I was there and was leaving and the number of goodbyes, have a great day, and see you tomorrow's was astounding and sweet. Now, of course, the actual food and drink. Everything I tried was amazing. The avocado toast I got was such a hit with my friends, they all got it the second visit. I also got to try a savory and sweet scone, I actually took them home with me and ate a day later - still delicious! They had a lengthy drink menu. The first visit, I had a Golden Iced Chai which was amazing. The second visit, I had iced coffee which you pour for yourself from their wall of options. So many flavored brews. I'm visiting Rhode Island from Miami and was very interested in finding a great coffee shop to go too. I work at a coffee shop in Miami and love trying out different shops when I travel. They opened at 6am and I was there at 6:10. I asked a few questions about a lighthouse I was going to take pictures of at sunrise. The employees were very nice and answered my questions and the vibe of the whole place is great. Very nice space. The coffee I had was a basic black americano and it was a straight forward and good espresso bean. A few hours later I came back to try their nitro cold brew (which is my favorite coffee beverage) and it did not disappoint. It was perfectly creamy from the infused nitrogen and the bean itself tasted sweet with chocolate and nut notes. It wasn't bitter at all. Definitely the second best nitro I've ever had (second to my coffee shops nitro of course ) I also had a avocado Bagel that was a very tasty snack. read more

UPDATE: Lynn (the owner? manager?) was incredibly kind and patient in speaking with me, and helped to rectify the situation. She ensured me that from now on extra precautions will be made to tie hair back better to keep things sanitary and prevent situations like this again. Changed rating from 1 to 3 because I really appreciated the care she shows towards her customers. I come here often enough and the food is usually okay (just okay, not great). Too expensive for what you're actually getting. But today, I found a dark HAIR in the cream cheese on my bagel. I'm blonde so there's no way it was mine, but both girls working there had dark hair and weren't wearing hairnets while preparing food so I guess I'm not surprised. I had already taken it home to eat or I would have complained right then and there. This is completely UNSANITARY and disgusting. I didn't pay that much money for a small bagel the size of my palm to find someone else's hair in it. Unacceptable. read more

Fuel is a wonderful little coffee shop this neighborhood was missing. They brew and offer an extensive selection in their cold brew cooler, nitro coffee (not made by them), and the normal selection of espresso drinks. They even have a small selection of hot breakfast sandwiches and a case of house made pastries (owner's recipes) that they make in-house. Speaking of the owner, of you see the delightfully smiling Lynn, say hello. She is welcoming and eager to please all her customers. So, don't write a bad review without talking to her first. I'm certain she will try to make it right. I know that because I gave feedback about something, and she did her best to make me happy (obviously successfully from this review).
