This Jersey Mike's has had my business a few times as the requisite logical stopping point of…read moreLaurinburg sucks in all the people going for a beach weekend out of central NC. It's nearly an exact halfway point, and also pretty much represents your ONLY option for food choices to break up the journey. That said, it's still not a big place, and your options are mostly of the fast food variety, and there definitely isn't much that isn't fried. Enter Jersey Mike's, a great place to stop if you don't want to be weighed down or groggy from grease. On my recent trip to Myrtle beach, i actually stopped both coming and going, and that prompts me to leave this review. As usual, nothing wrong with the sandwich. Good flavors. I had my standard Jersey shore special both times. First trip was a little meatier than the second, but not so much so that I was angry. Bread was great both times, Mike's Way is as good as ever, add pickles and the spicy red peppers. The charge to add chips and drink is too much, as always, but need a cup of refreshment for the road... so I cave, at least on the drink. This location is attached to a gas station, doesn't look much on the outside, but you've nothing to fear. Inside is clean and bright. Bathrooms are clean, but just show their age. Staff is usually just fine, some interested, some less so, but the job gets done. They lose the same star that all Jersey Mike's do for me, and that is that the price for a standard size sub, chips, and drink is just too high. I miss the daily specials where certain sandwich choices would cut you a deal... all apparently a thing of the past now. But, without a grocery store or local sandwich shop that I know of to compete, they get my money, even if slightly begrudgingly. I'll keep going, but dang Mike, help a brother keep a little cash!

I always order the fluffy on GF with no cheese, and he always orders the Italian on GF with no cheese. There is cross contamination, so if you are celiac, you can ask them to change gloves, use a clean knife, and keep your sandwich away from the others. We have almost never received the correct order without cheese the first time, but they don't make a fuss when asked to remake the sandwiches, and they are very apologetic. These sandwiches are generous with the meat and other fillings, and the pizza-crust-as-bread works so well. We also get their delicious potato salad with our sandwiches. The seating area is not huge, maybe ten tables, but we've never had to wait for one, and we often take our order to go. The restaurant is clean, and parking is fairly convenient. Even with the issue of having to remake sandwiches, I still rate Blake's a solid five star. It's consistently delicious, and I like supporting a small business in my home community.

When I first visited Southern Pines years ago, my mom took me here. I was a little bit skeptical,…read moreI'm not going to lie. It's right next to a gas station and the name...well...let's just say I had questions. Usually it's the places that are a hole in the wall and dives that are the best, though. Let me just say...after I ordered my sandwich and saw that it came with pickles, I was already a happy camper before I tried the sandwich. That was probably around four years ago. Then I took a bite...and it was unlike any sandwich I'd ever had before. It did get a little messy, but what's good food without it being a little messy? Honestly, I'm kind of a mess so it probably had something to do with that. Four years later - nothing had changed. I love going there to get a sandwich when I'm in the area. I just wish they were open a little later. My top three picks are the Birdie, Greek, and Real Italian. You can't go wrong with any of them. I've also tried the Wally, Sand, Pitching, Flip, Original, and New Yorker (sometimes a family member will let me try some of their sandwich...and vice versa). All great. There is just something about my top three though. I love that they are made fresh to order, that you can customize them, that they have an option for gluten free bread, and unsweetened or sweet tea (their unsweetened tea is delicious). I usually get an extra pickle when I remember. They have decent selections for sides as well. Nothing like a good sandwich from Wedgies and a cool drink in the summer! I do wish for more drink and side options...but that's me being super nit-picky. Get yourself a sandwich from Wedgies! You won't be sorry. Sometimes, calling ahead or placing an order ahead is the best way to go because it's usually very busy. Give a nice smile to all the kind people there as well. They do work hard!

Yes, the bread is quite peculiar but it's delicious, and the stuff between the "slices" is equally good as well as plentiful. I went with the Real Italian and found it full of flavor. Now I'll need to make a few return trips and try some of the other selections.
