I didn't dock any stars because the donuts that I did choose were oh so soft and tasty. Pillow soft! My mother also thoroughly enjoyed hers. It was more food than I could handle so go hungry. The total was actually less than I anticipated for all I got (portions are far more so order less and add on if still hungry). There were regulars there when I sat down and the owner seemed to know each of them. That's the spot I like-- the hometown spot to grab good food and catch up with the locals. The hotcakes alone were enough to bring me back to Susie's! Make sure you add that to you breakfast/lunch spots before leaving the beach town. You won't regret it. The diner is smaller and had dim lighting but the smells from the bacon and griddle make your mouth water. Be patient and thoughtful but be hungry when you go!

The first time we went to The Nest, it was great for me -- the server also has celiac, and clearly looked out for me -- I did not get sick. I had the Big Bacon omelet, and my husband had the Gyro -- both enormous servings and delicious. My husband and I were so excited, because we've only been able to find a handful of restaurants that actually take food allergies seriously. The second time, when I told our server I have a severe gluten allergy (because most people genuinely do not know what celiac is . . .), she nonchalantly said "ok." I ordered the Cheesy Cheese; my husband had the Breakfast Burrito. While both were delicious (my husband couldn't finish his and said it was one of the best Breakfast Burritos he's eaten!), I barely made it to the BP gas station down the road before I got sick, and I was sick for 6 days! 6 days means DIRECT contamination -- either someone put toast on my plate and then took it off, or some other form of a direct hit with wheat/rye/barley (which could be soy sauce; "food" starch," etc.) It's so frustrating. I really try to do my best and order things that should be simple -- no sauces; no dressings -- if the kitchen and server take it seriously. It isn't a dietary choice -- believe me, my life would be much easier (and much more pleasant), if I did not have this disease. Sadly, we can't go back.
