Stopped at this cute store on the way to Holden Beach. They had lots of good "country store" items. I bought some candied banana peppers and homemade caramel. On the way out the door they asked if we wanted to donate to the exotic animal sanctuary. I had no idea it was right out the back door. We looped around and did a tour of the sanctuary. My husband, brother and I thoroughly enjoyed our lunch today. My brother and I shared The Carnivore panini. My husband had The Dunrovin panini. Both were excellent sandwiches. They're served with a sweet gherkin pickle. Personally I prefer kosher dill or garlic pickles. Regardless, we'll be back for more! read more

As much as this sanctuary is trying to help these exotic and domesticated animals, this sanctuary has enclosures that are way to small. All of the water to drink out of and pools to swim in were green and dirty. There is no stimulation for the primates. It's cruel and inhumane in my opinion. They need to seek reputable sanctuaries and rehome their animals. It breaks my heart to see their living conditions! read more

This was my second visit to Dunrovin. The first time, I did not notice the bird sanctuary. The birds were actually my favorite part during this visit. The store is a bit of a tourist spot with general store items and quirky gifts. I heard the hype about Amish baked goods. I noticed a few loaves of bread in the case, but not much beyond that. Perhaps you have to get there super early in the morning to get the first pick. Nothing caught my eye, but my friend purchased some Christmas home decor. I felt she overpaid, but she was ecstatic. I took off a star because the interior of the store was a little dusty. read more

This place is crazy fun. I can't believe I've driven by so many times. Kids'll love the birds and tortoises and ice cream. There's all kinds of fun art and "Amish" foods. Worth a stop between Sanford and Aberdeen! read more

Do not support this place! They do not know how to take care of exotic animals and the reptiles are malnourished and suffering greatly. They dismissed us when we brought it up. Called Sheriffs department and they informed us that they've been trying to get them shut down for awhile but have backstops because they are exotic animals. Very very sad to see abused animals. Tortoise was so malnourished it was eating pine straw. Then the employee said this is normal! It's water bowl had bacterial spores and pine needles and looked like it hadn't been changed in a month. This is the saddest animal sanctuary I have ever seen. None of these animals are in there proper environment, or have the proper cooling elements/heating elements. The enclosures are way to small and not properly fit for each animal. It is very obvious these animals are used as an attraction and not properly cared for. I don't know how this place is legally allowed to have these animals. From what I have seen this is just a tourist attraction to get you to "donate" to the animals when the animals clearly do not receive care or proper enclosures. read more

The store was super over priced and smelled really bad. The sanctuary was quite run down. I'm not an expert but I have taken my grand children to a few sanctuaries and this was one a quite smelly and the animals didn't look great. I'm glad we didn't travel to see it or pay to get in! . One of our favorite places in the world. Worth a day trip if you have kids. You can spend an hour exploring the store, get ice cream, and while away an afternoon at the aviary and animal rescue stuffed full of interesting benches and corners out back. I recently went searching for a lost bird. we will never know for sure if it belonged to my elderly disabled friend, We just wanted to rule it out if it was and get closure for my friend. The visit ended badly. As for the store, I didn't like the dead preserved alligators for sale in the store..it made me sad. I didn't like it but some might. I really, really liked the zookeepers Jacob and Amelia. I know they really love their animals. I felt like they do a lot with what is probably a modest budget. The cages were well kept. The cockatoo cage was very clean and I didn't see caked feces. The store employees were sweet, too. read more

Have been wanting to check this place out because it just looked interesting. Stopped there with a friend who was visiting. When we got out of the car noticed there were some cages to the left and had no idea what we were in for. They have tons of exotic birds all out back ! It was really an experience to say the least. I think my favorite were the parrots and peacocks. great place to just bring the kids for a quick little bit of coolness. Inside it's like an old country store . A ton of different items all throughout the entire large store. Whatever you can think of in a country store they probably have . Prices are probably about average maybe a little high but it's worth it. We grabbed some of the homemade fudge at the checkout and it was well worth it. If I could give no stars, I would! My family has always enjoyed this place. Recently my wife and young children visited. Our daughter was attacked by a rooster, completely unprovoked. This happened in a pathway, open to the public. Not behind a fence or cage. The staff acted is disbelief and showed zero empathy. My wife went inside to ask to use the bathroom to clean my daughter's bleeding cuts from the rooster. She was denied access by staff members. They did not have a first aid kit on site and offered she clean my daughter's cuts with a "no sting spray." The employee returned with an unlabeled industrial cleaning spray bottle with blue liquid in it. 0/5 would not recommend. read more

This is an interesting store. My senses were overloaded when I walked in: there is merchandise everywhere, smells of spices, coffee, sweets, pickles, and incense I'll the air, and the sounds of Charlie Daniels and the Allman Brothers echo throughout the store. The shelves and stands, with the occasional antique display, seem to go on indefinitely. There are distinct areas: coffees, tea, candies / confections, canned goods, clothes, cheeses, grains, sodas, Christmas, toys, decor, incense, pickled items, and more. The prices are a bit on the high end, however, I do not know where else you could locally obtain many of the items in this store. Don't miss the garden area and the exotic birds display. read more

Don't waste your time. This place is a dump inside and out. On top of that be prepared to pay extra if you decide to buy something with your credit card, and don't think they make you aware of this at the time, unless the owner will claim it's post on sign somewhere. If you want to charge me for using a credit card then raise your prices and offer a cash discount, but charging me extra in hopes I don't see a posted sign is the best way to get a 1 star review. read more

Closed. We live about an hour away. Stopped for a visit at 3:00 pm on Wednesday to visit store and birds today. Closed. Even the bird santuary in back of store was closed and locked. I was happy to stumble upon the Dunrovin Country Store. Heading to Southern Pines and found this gem of a country store. We drove past it and turned around as it looked very eclectic. Eclectic is something that is missing from the Wake County strip plaza landscape, it is like one large "SodoSopa" community. For those who watch South Park will understand this term. I would even take a drive to come to this country store There are so many unique things here, I could not do this store justice trying to list them. Not to mention all the antiques hanging throughout the store from the ceilings. Took me back years going through this store. Plant collection is lovely. I bought a plant and the owner was kind enough to keep the plant until I drove back through from Southern Pines to pick up as it was too hot to leave in the car. read more

One star for the animal "sanctuary". The cages and habitats are filthy. Food bowls are teeming with ants and covered with mold. Water, where available, was dirty and slimy. Cages are way too small for some of the animals. Awful. As for the merchandise, the outdoor items are neglected. Standing water in some was full of mildew and the smell was horrible. Driving by, I thought, how charming, an Amish country store? Swinging a u turn, I dragged my husband into the store. I suppose I didn't know what an Amish store entailed, it just sounded so... Quaint. There isn't a lot of parking, so we ended up parking in the adjacent strip mall parking lot, walking up to the entrance, you can find a lot of garden decorations. Not sure if they are home made or not, they just seem a bit junky. The store itself is a bit confusing, you have tons of random items, but I suppose it is organized into sections. The back of the store is random items, hard to explain, it ranged from cowboy hats, stuffed animals, cards, t shirts, soaps, Asian oils, African Shea butter.... They had old fashioned candy aisle... Some looked like they were produced in the olden days.... They had a small section for Amish cheese and bacon. I'm not sure what makes it Amish, but the bacon boasted no nitrates. They also had a counter of various fudge and ice cream. Also aisles of sauces, honey, jam and such. Overall, I suppose a country store is just that, a mish mash of things. Did I buy anything..., naw... Maybe if they had samples of some of the bottles of jams and things, but I wouldn't want to dump $8-10 on a jar of pickled garlic if I had no idea if it tasted any good. Saw the sign for Dunrovin's while driving down the highway. Had never been there before so we decided to check it out. It's really filled to the gills with all kinds of trinkets, homewares, jams, jellies, boxed food mixes, candy, refrigerated foods, garden decorations and even plants. You really have to take your time to see everything, which could easily take a good hour or so. It's really hard to walk out of there without even a small purchase. Prices are all over the map from under a dollar to double digits or more. read more

Very charming Country Store. I enjoy coming here with friends/family visiting from out of state. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful -- I walked in with a group of 8 people 5 minutes before close and they happily served us all ice cream. Highly recommend the Old Fashioned Peach or Toasted Coconut ice cream. Creamy and delicious. read more
