We asked several times about this in June, and were told, "a part is coming in at the end of June, and another part is coming in in August." Ok. Nobody even thought to put any large industrial-type fans on each half of the track apparently. Considering most of the people who walk the track here are probably between 50 and upper 80's, this is a considerable disservice to the community to have this many problems with the A/C for over 3 years. Keep in mind, we all pay for this. Word around town is, "almost nobody goes to walk the track because the air doesn't work." You've been warned. Now for nice weather or for fall/winter months, things are usually ok. But the fact that they have had issues with the a/c for over 3 years is also telling.

It only includes the basic weights and a walking track which I couldn't even see because they walked over to the gym that was having a basketball game and said look there's the track upstairs I'm like OK there's no indoor pool and for $40, you get the classes added in whoopie now keep in mind there's not really a wide variety of classes and you could join other places for less that offer so much more And for the elite membership you get the pool for a whopping maybe 8 to 10 weeks if it's even warm enough and that's like around $60 a month and I don't know why you would do that for only 8 to 10 weeks of using something look around because you can join other places and get much more for less

As a community member, it's a "must visit" if you want to get involved with some cool local events and to check out what's going on in the neighborhood. If you are just interested in the fitness center, that's cool too. It's a long rectangular room that looks out over a lagoon and charges a monthly or an annual fee. When I first spotted this building against the dramatic clouds and bright blue sky yesterday, my spirit soared. I don't even care if that's silly talk because that's how enamored I was with the view. "What is this place?" I had to pull in the lot and go inside. What I found were crafty-colorful witches greeting me.... I roamed along to where some voices were coming from and before I knew it, I was standing in an "old-school" gym/basketball court/auditorium. The space looked out of "Dead Poet's Society" or so like that. I backed up toward the wall to take a photo and whoa!! radiant heat from the grate (looks original!) on the wall. I was wrapped in all kinds of warmth. Further wrapped figuratively, by the one lady employee who saw me marveling at this place. She began telling me all about the programs, the fitness center and you could tell she loved her job, the city of Chicago and the place she worked. Thank you, Chicago Park District for keeping this kind of gem alive and housing such awesome community spirit here. http://www.chicagoparkdistrict.com/parks/humboldtpark/ excerpt re: architecture: "In 1928, the West Park Commission contructed a fieldhouse in Humboldt Park. The structure was designed by architects Michaelsen and Rognstad, who were also responsible for other notable buildings including the Garfield Park Gold Dome Building, the Douglas and LaFolette Park Fieldhouses, and the On Leong Chinese Merchant's Association Building in Chinatown. In 1934, Humboldt Park became part of the Chicago Park District, when the city's 22 independent park commissions merged into a single citywide agency." (I'm learning why I love Paris so much...many nooks of Chicago were based on Parisian design: the Midway Plaisance in Hyde Park is another notable area: http://www.chicagoparkdistrict.com/parks/Midway-Plaisance-Park/ )

When we arrive there used to be 3 courts set up and we had to set up the other 3 as they just left the nets aside the court. They offer no balls or a place to put our rackets like other community centers do. This year we arrive indoors once it gets cold and they haven't put up any nets, 6 are available. The friendly guy at the front desk said the nets are there and you can set them up. What happened to your maintenance man and good customer serve. I asked perhaps I should get a discount for setting thing up for you. I complained to the manager last year and nothing happened. Oh did I mention that when the kids are off from school we get kicked out early. Guess seniors aren't a priority at this center.

When…read moreI first moved to Aurora, I was excited that there was a park district gym walkable to my house. I checked out the old Prisco gym and it was ... well, a couple of treadmills and a weight set in a room that was pretty close to an oversized broom closet. Well, after getting some money from the government they completely overhauled the fitness center and now I think the facilities rival some of the premium gyms I've been a member of, including Equinox back in Los Angeles and Lifetime locally as everything is BRAND NEW. All the machines have these massive screens on them, with a variety of apps like Netflix and YouTube that you can use to watch video while you work out. They even support Bluetooth headphones, which you can pair via a little fiddling around in the menus. Cooler yet, if you create a log in on the machine, it saves all your settings so you only need to log in with the one shared username and passwords across all the machines to get access to your same Netflix account and everything else. It's super convenient, particularly if your passwords for these services are complicated. There's a ton of different cardio machines and a full array of weight lifting options. I spend most of my time on the stair machine, but even when I go to Prisco at prime time in the mornings or evenings, there's never a wait for anything. My theory on that is this facility is in this interesting spot among local gyms: Planet Fitness is way cheaper, so if you just care about the lowest pricing that's where you go. On the other hand, if you want to pay a little bit more you can go to the Vaughn center on Indian Trail and have access to the pool and indoor track. For me, Prisco is the Goldilocks gym as it just has what I want: A ton of new equipment. I never used the pool or track at Vaughn, and the low-cost gyms seem like a good place to get MRSA. I do wish the locker rooms were a little nicer, but this is so close to my house I never shower there anyway. They DO have small towel service for towels while you're working out, but if you want to shower there you need to bring your own from home. (Or I guess you could get creative and use a couple of the small towels.) We pay $36 a month for a couples membership, which seems pretty solid. It's not the cheapest place in town, and also not the most expensive. Being in that middle ground seems to make for a super empty gym which I am 100% A-OK with.
