For south side art openings, Gallery Guichard is typically THE place to go, but they are in Bronzeville, and this is South Shore, another cool south side neighborhood. I lived as a kid in a building on Crandon, maybe 2.5 miles from the place. It's a great place to showplace art, receptions, film screenings, or book launches. If there was an upstairs, it was closed off. The contemporary art exhibit (by ANTHONY GALLERY) mixed nicely with the older photography. The art was edgy but 'child-friendly'. The pictures near the bar are of stylish men and women from 'back in the day' who could have been my mom, aunts, and their friends. You can still see some of the old structures along with new additions. For history buffs, check out the Mellon Archival Innovation Program, listed on the website. It seems to be a program dedicated to preserving our (Chicago, African-American) history with slides and old Ebony/Jet issues. Sounds fascinating!

In the summer the tennis courts and paths are always busy, but I've never felt like the grassy area was overwhelming with people like some parks/beaches along the lakefront can be. It really is a hidden gem along the lakefront. There are plenty of trees if you want to hang a hammock or find a shady spot to relax or read a book. It's family friendly, with people having cookouts throughout the summer months, and groups of friends playing spike ball and other lawn games. You can jump into the lake right from there, and there are plenty of ladders along the concrete wall to climb back up. Bring your dog, or watch all the cute pups as they trot by! There are multiple bus stops along the paths making it easily accessible for anyone with a Ventra card. Plus, a DIVVY station is on the other side of Lakeshore Drive (there is a underground path to the park) if you're coming from the West. Definitely my lakefront go-to in the summer & fall!

All my guests were blown away by the cute place bc they had no idea it existed. I knew it existed bc I discovered it after I discovered the dog park across the street to it. I've done Archery here in the basement. I used to come here & just walk around the place bc it's so unique and rustic. I wanted to get married here but I was told as of 2016 they no longer allow events that serve liquor. So we had to scratch that idea and make it our bridal shower spot instead. I'm a chaotic person the day of events so I was all over the place. Jackie helped me bring up a couple extra tables I wanted to use. The park manager Jim was so kind communicating with me weeks prior to the party. The workers there had a lot of patience with me being unorganized! Bobby & Rueben helped me & my fiancé out with cleaning up the party when it was over. It was just so perfect. The bathrooms are obviously not perfect but At least they worked and it's not like they are one of those smelly outdoor parks bathrooms or portapotty. In fact I kind of thought the old structure of the bathrooms gave it character. Super inexpensive. They allowed me to bring my own food. There was a pool table in our room. The room is spacious with a couch and some benches, so you can take a break if you're getting tired! Besides the private room, they also have a large paid public space with 3 ping pong tables. There's a couple features that I find very innovative: 1. They have two long rackets to pick up ping pong balls so you don't have to bend down and hurt your knees and back! 2. You can take replays of rounds, especially if you want to capture fun moments! 3. The private room has its own bathroom! 4. Self service and pay by QR code drinks and snacks. Overall, I found the experience so fun! Loved writing on the glass whiteboard too!

I like how serious they are about security. You cannot enter without a reservation. The space itself consists of 3 ping pong tables and they have a private room that you can use as well for parties and lessons and such. There is a LCD screen to keep score as well as give a tutorial on how to play. The best part are the replays! We enjoyed seeing those when we "thought" we had a good game :). There is one bathroom and it is kept pretty clean: They have a cooler with water,Gatorade and Red Bull so snack before you come. Overall this was an enjoyable first time experience and I would love to come back so that I can get better and show off!

I arrived around 11a and parking on Montrose was challenging. I think as you drive further along, there were more parking to be found. However, be prepared for travel to crawl all the way around. This is a great family affair with all kinds of kites flying in the air. There were tents set up for free kite making and kite decorating. There was also an area of food vendors and tents that were giving away free stuff. Thanks Whole Foods for the banana and coupons! Near the tents are a row of port-o-potty and the lines were never too long. Unfortunately, the water to wash your hands ran out early in the afternoon. It was fun to sit on the grassy knoll and watch all the kites fly. There was a huge seahorse kite in the middle section that's roped off. The kids really had a great time hanging out here.

Wrigley Field and The Last Chapter bookshop were hosting her as this was the final book within the Windy City series. The 1914 Club is bougie and absolutely stunning, did you know that it's right underneath home plate, um okay? First the team here is so amazing and friendly, we were given complimentary drinks and a buffet of hotdogs and pretzels and popcorn, I took a couple of plastic cups as souvenirs. Everyone was so accommodating, one of the signature drinks for the book release had rum and I asked to switch it with tequila and there were no issues. I don't know how I could ever go to another baseball game and not think of being at 1914 Club, such a cool experience, also their bathrooms are top notch fancy.
