The only thing they are good at is making excuses. They have a monopoly, so they know that no matter how they treat their customers, they are stuck with them. We had an absolutely terrible experience with this company! Our power went out on Friday at 7:10pm, it wasn't restored until Tuesday at 530pm. We had to discard all of our food, my husband and I were extremely cold. I was constantly checking the outage area for our neighborhood. The outage was constantly not being updated for our area. We have gone 9 days without power and their status still says "awaiting dispatch"! WTF! They came yesterday afternoon to our neighborhood, parked their utility trucks and just left for the day. Have had to speak with the customer service department twice in the past week and they were fantastic. I don't know if my problem will be solved quite yet but they were very understanding and listened to my concerns about a rotting tree that is on the power lines to my house. This company is scamming it's customers and doing so blatantly. Two years ago, I had my set at 62 degrees all summer. Last summer my AC was set at 75 degrees. This summer my AC has been set at 83 degree. I under that raise rates in the summer to price gouge us, but they are claiming that my meter reading is actual and not an estimate. I find this hard to believe, since my bill has gone up each summer while my usage has not! Find a different supplier if you have the choice! This company is pathetic. read more

Before moving to the Pittsburgh area, I had never lost power for longer than 10 minutes in my life, which was the result of Hurricane Irene, a category 3 storm. After moving to the Pittsburgh area, I quickly realized the electrical infrastructure here is comparable to what I can only imagine Cambodia's or North Korea's would be like. It is quite literally a 3rd world country atmosphere up here. When I return home to no electricity, I don't even bat an eye anymore, it's just expected. My daughter lost her power last Thursday to no fault of her own... a big truck went through an intersection and ripped all the wires down, worse yet ripped the box right off her house ... then said it was her responsibility to get it fixed , well it's fixed and got inspected and DLC tells her they will be out in 1-3 days to hook it up My daughter has a 2 week old baby!!!! they need their heat!!!!! I see so many 1-star reviews on this page, so my 5-star review is definitely an outlier! Well, I truly had a very positive experience with Duquesne Light. For over 100 years, Duquesne Light has provided electricity to customers in Allegheny and Beaver counties. For several years, I have purchased electricity from them, and I experienced no major problems. My first major experience with Duquesne Light occurred last week, when the electricity in much of my house went out. I called the company's customer service department, and a representative answered the phone in about one minute. The representative said that she saw nothing wrong with my service, but she put in a ticket for a technician to visit my house to investigate the problem. In less than one hour, a technician arrived, and he said that a wire in the ground was likely damaged. He requested that two other technicians arrive to repair the wire. In less than one hour, those other two technicians arrived. They dug a 3-foot-deep hole in my yard to expose a damaged wire, and they repaired the wire. I did not have to pay them any money. All four of these employees at Duquesne Light provided extremely timely and courteous customer service. I felt very surprised and impressed by their responsiveness. I now have electricity, and I feel very happy with this company. read more

My boyfriend and I recently moved to Allegheny County in April of 2025 and have been using Duquesne Light for about 3 months now. In that short time frame, our power has gone out over 5 times. The one outage was over 5 days with no power. I'm 25 years old and in my 25 years of living I have never had my power out for more than 8 hours. Maybe I'm privileged I don't know but I think it's completely unacceptable to have power out for over 12 hours. This company sucks! They have no urgency for emergency situations and lack empathy on the phone. Definitely don't recommend! read more

Their "DLC charge" is basically made up. I've never run into anything like that with other utility companies. There's no explanation as to why it's on there or who it goes to no matter how hard you look through their paperwork. Also, they are completely unreasonable if you call them up to dispute charges. I called them to dispute a late fee. On their bill it said that they would charge me 1.25%. It turned out being an 8% charge yet there was no disputing it. This latest outage had power in the banksville/GreenTree area go out during a moderate rain... What is going on at DLC? They are the worst overall and don't really deserve any stars. I moved out of my apartment almost 2 years ago. I do not use them because my electric is rolled into my rent. Recently I received an email from a collections company FFAM, stating that I owed Duquesne Light $566. This is almost 2 years later and not once have they sent me a bill, called or emailed regaurding any balance. When I moved, my mail was being forwarded and my landlord knew where to send anything that showed up there. Back in near the end of 2022 I had lost work and the bill was getting paid through a grant provided to low income. I was never told by Duquesne light of the place that was sending payments that it was ending. Some on August 2022 I was billed $530. I got help, but paid it. When I tried to pay, the website said that the payment was unsuccessful and I received nothing in my email about the payment processing. So I ended up trying to submit the payment again. The next day it showed that both payments processed. So that is $1030 that came out of my account. They kept the other payment of $530. That amount continued to cover my months of electric while I remained at that apartment. When I moved early part of 2023 I had received no bills from them. Like stated earlier, I have never received any emails, letters or calls saying I owed anything. When I called FFAM they said that they work on behalf of DL and that they would not be able to remove any debts. If I wanted the debt removed I would have to resolve the debt with them. When speaking with the rep from FFAM, they made mention that I had owed over $500. This is interesting considering the following... 1. When they answered they only gave their name but never said the company 2. They never asked me my information when I explained my situation 3. They made mention of my debt that was over $500 4. Rude and no help Again, I never gave this person any information. Honesty I do not care who messed up whether it's a scam, although FFAM is a legit company or DL is the issue. Either way DL needs to correct this. If this was FFAM and that was a real rep I was speaking with, DL clearly needs to find another company to work with because the people from FFAM are terrible. The person was ignorant and acted like I was the problem and she didn't even care to hear me out. Rude and awful experience from both parties. read more

I am a fairly new DL customer. I have had First Energy for the last almost 20 years. Never had a real problem with them and my bill was always reasonable. We bought a house in Sept 2024, had to switch to DL and it has been horrible. My electric bill is $500-900/ month for NO REASON. We did not switch anything major. Yes, the new house has an electric stove. I've had a house before with electric stove and my bill has maybe been $300 at the most. I try to call and ask wth is going on and it says they're having issues call again later. You can't get a hold of anyone. We do not have electric heat fyi. It is oil, out furnace is broken, and we have been using wood to heat, so it's not that, either. read more

You can only deal with Duquesne customer service for business accounts if you have less than 4 accounts - otherwise it takes an email. They do not always let you know that the issue has been resolved. This is very poor service. If I call business center I expect that the business will be taken care of not just some of it. read more

The phone/computer system is really bad. Menu system drops you on purpose. I was on hold for an hour and I had to call back 4 times. Tryiing to talk to a real person is damn near impossible. The system is design for that since they are short staffed. Web site does not function properly for certain menus. They need a quality improvement manager on staff. Duquesne light is one of the worst companies I've ever had the displeasure to deal with. Since we've started using them as our electric provider we've had nothing but problems. While we've been lucky to deal with any power outages the issues come when we go to pay our monthly bill. Month after month we have to fight with them for our bill to be paid, their system consistently says we don't have enough cash in our account to pay the bill meanwhile we know for a fact we do and they also take the full bill amount out of our accounts only to return it a week later saying we didn't have the money to begin with. Then when we call the customer service number it is excruciatingly hard to reach a human to talk to and when you eventually get put into a queue to be called back it's then a 50/50 chance if they call back at all. It also doesn't help that there will be conflicting statements from the company where we will get an email saying our bill can't be paid and then the robot on the phone says our bill is paid and we owe no balance.
