Come here if you want to try the best Enchiladas Mineras in Guanajuato. This place is so…read moreunassuming, unpretentious, homely, and not to mention extremely cheap. You get an option of 2 main dishes to choose from and typically most people go for the Enchiladas Mineras. You can get the Enchiladas with or without chicken. Unless you are a vegetarian, go for the chicken. The chicken is so soft and flavorful and the enchiladas have the perfect seasoning. The cheese, carrots, potatoes all are such simple but powerful additions to the dish that you cannot help but almost lick your empty plate within minutes. The pickled jalapeños and carrots that are served on each table are so delicious and the jalapeños have such a nice kick to complement this dish. I also ordered the hibiscus juice, which honestly has such a large serving and is a must here! The place does get crowded at around 7pm with a line, especially since there are not that many seats. After almost an hour wait (trust me it is worth it), I was seated. If you come alone or with just one person, chances are, you will be sitting with strangers and making friends as you eat.

Most definitely the best enchiladas mineras we've had in GTO. The owners are the sweetest as well!

The food and the drinks are simple, but good. The service and atmosphere remind me of sitting in my best friend's kitchen having a few drinks and some basic home snacks. Personally, while in Guanajuato, I've made this place my home away from home, and the Miguel, who is running the place has made me feel like that's exactly where I am. And, what a view!!! I happened upon it while I was heating myself up the mountain to see the Pipila Monument. I was kicking myself for opting to bypass the ride up the Funicular, but now that I'm here at Bésame Cafe, I know I made the right decision! It's off the beaten path definitely, but as they say, I prefer the road less travelled. This one is definitely worth the journey. It's amazing view alone makes this spot magnificent. But then paired with a lovely owner, delicious food and drinks, this spot was truly a highlight to the city. I had a nice refreshing tequila, some delightfully brewed coffee, and simple quesadillas paired with a dish of homemade puerco that is tal off the bone, perfectly spiced, heavenly goodness. This spot is barebones, certainly, without even a menu. But honestly, you might as well not come to Guanajuato if you don't come to this cafe!

So we went with what the waitress recommended - clam pasta and steak. The pasta was mushy, over cooked and had no flavor. Clams seemed to have a shell without the clams in it, hmmm. Steak was drenched in a sauce that tasted like it came out of a bottle. We had the fried provolone for appetizer which was decent, probably the best part of the entire meal. Service was mediocre. I was hoping for a better experience as this was my one dinner in Guanajuato, unfortunately my meal didn't live up to the other reviews

Los Campos is a highly rated restaurant in Guanajuato. We decided to visit for dinner only to…read morediscover it was only us as diners. Normally, this would cause a red flag but perhaps it was early or an off night. Los Campos is located on the south-eastern side of Centro Historico district and is an easy walk from Jardin de la Union. What drew us to Los Campos was the referenced diversity of their menu. My companion eats chicken and fish, while I am a vegan and plant-based. Their menu has multiple vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options. While the flavors were pretty good, it was the plate presentation that was exceptional and we both felt that Los Campos was a little too pretentious for us. I was limited to order the Chaminones con Mezcal. Mushrooms flambeed in Mezcal with orange zest and dried chile. My wife, although not excited to try, did have the Burrito de Cerdo Ahumado en Salsa Colorado. It wasn't that Los Campos was too fancy, it was more like we, as diners, were more comfortable in other settings. We would suspect that diners from the United States or from Europe would fall in love with the avant-garde interiors and plate presentations. From all accounts, that all seems to be true, it's just our style. Our food was good and was plated expertly and I don't have any issues recommending Los Campos for a romantic dinner out for a couple.

When we visited it was raining so we opted to seat inside as opposed to the patio. I literally had to tour the whole place before even seating, the art pieces they had on display/ for sale were incredible. Our waiter was very nice, he explained the menu to us and gave us suggestions on what to order. You her complementary artisan bread (different flavors available), I could have eaten just bread! That is how good it was. I ordered the tortilla soup and guajillo enchiladas, the portions are extremely generous and filling. The enchiladas were a bit too sweet for me, but exquisite mom the less. The presentation of the plates is 5 stars. I was surprised by the prices- considering the quality of the food, the quantity and the ambiance I was expecting our check to be 3x more. I will definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Guanajuato, and I can't wait to be back!!!

A modicum of caution kept me from doing so and only decreased my enjoyment of the place marginally. Mercado Hidalgo is that bustling market that sells pretty much every sort of (Mexico-adjacent) food one can imagine as well as a wide assortment of other things. It's picturesque, stimulating, and colorful and I'm not sure we have anything equivalent in the US. All the more reason to visit. I walked out with Mexican candy (a safe bet) and a brain full of images of this large place knowing that I'll settle - a bit sadly - for a state-side Shrimp Cocktail now that I'm back at home.
