My fiancé and I were fortunate enough to move into one of the townhouses right on the course and as we've been getting settled in and dealing with a remodel, we have been thrilled to have the services available to us within the clubhouse. (Here's my disclaimer - I'm not reviewing my personal experience golfing, just the community and Country Club. I see a LOT of happy golfers every single day sun up to sun down outside my windows though and I plan to take lessons here so I'll update my review to include that in the future) The food and entertainment services at Glen Acres is excellently handled by Jason Winniford who makes it his mission to provide excellent customer service to both the resident guests who dine regularly in the dining room or lounge, as well as the special event guests who book the facilities for special celebrations, wedding, and parties. The amazing Yonna (not sure of the spelling but it rhymes with Donna) takes care of the guests in the lounge and makes the drinks behind the bar most days and she calls every guest by name it seems. She pours an excellent drink (I love her extra dirty martinis) and provides excellent service whether we are dining in or calling in a last minute order to be picked up. In fact as I'm writing this review I'm wondering if I should be keeping this hidden gem hidden for my own personal pleasure. Then again, a large part of the appeal of Glen Acres is the sense of community one feels upon entering the facility. And speaking of facility, the clubhouse itself is GORGEOUS GORGEOUS GORGEOUS and the rates to rent the facility and catering services are an unbeatable value. Really, there is NO place like this. Now - this isn't a place for slouchy, long baggy shorts or pants for males, nor shorty, short shorts or skirts for females. There's actually an expected, respectable manner of dress here and even on the golf course so this isn't the place to pop into wearing anything where the top of your bum or the bottom of your bum is exposed. In a nutshell, Glen Acres has an air of times long past when people were nice to each other, meals shared with friends and family had significance, and loud laughter erupted regularly. The food is good, the service even better, and the view cannot be matched.

Whether you just want to play a virtual round of golf or dive deep into all you swing metrics, they've got it covered. The private lessons with Tyler Claybrook have completely changed my golf swing and given me a new level of confidence across all the clubs in my bag. Not only have the results been great, the process has been fun as well. Tyler is clearly passionate about his craft, understands golf at a deep level, and is an excellent coach and communicator. He hasn't just helped me improve my game, he's helped me understand my swing in a new way. The club fitting process was highly collaborative and left me feeling like I have a bespoke set of clubs made specifically for me. The space is completely unpretentious and has a great, "scrappy" energy that makes you feel welcome the second you walk in. Coach Alex is incredibly knowledgeable--I spent half the time just watching her movement, which is so fluid and smooth. It's rare to find a spot that balances great technique with such an inclusive, easygoing environment. It was so easy to make new friends, and I'll definitely be back for more beginner sparring sessions with other queer women. Thanks for holding events like this! Because I trained with him, she apparently told people at the gym that I was also homophobic and disrespectful. When I arrived, people were giving me dirty looks. Alex confronted me and accused me of talking badly about Cappy's on Facebook. When I asked for proof, her screenshots only showed the other boxer tagging me in posts. She then admitted that I had not said anything. Instead of apologizing and correcting the misinformation, she allowed everyone to continue treating me with hostility. I even felt pressured to disclose that I have a transgender girlfriend just to prove I was not homophobic. I should never have needed to reveal personal information to defend myself against something I did not do. I came to train, not to be publicly judged and humiliated based on someone else's opinions. In my experience, this was handled unprofessionally and without accountability.

I lost an irreplaceable rod on a river yesterday. I never would have found it without the incredible help of Muaaz, one of the staff members, who was so exceedingly caring and attentive that he voluntarily managed to track down the person who grabbed it from the bank. Thank you, Muaaz! Many fly shops are intimidating. Most are uncomfortable to hang out in. Plenty of them employ "experts" who are outright disdainful and rude to customers who don't know what they're doing. Most other shops aren't designed to foster a real community, let alone bring a positive force to the larger community of the neighborhood. There isn't a single employee here who won't go above and beyond for you, whether you're an absolute novice, intermediate to expert angler, or just have a friend or family member who's into fly fishing. Need a gift for the angler in your life? Curious about why people are so obsessed with this sport? Want to understand why matching a rod with the appropriate reel, line, leader, and tippet seems so complicated? Want to know if that piece of equipment is really worth the price tag? Maybe you don't really need anything, but you'd like to hang out in a comfortable space designed for customers like you to relax and socialize. Maybe you're tinkering with the idea of getting into fly tying but have no idea where to start. Or perhaps you could really use some expert advice based extensive experience -- without being told you have to buy $2,000 worth of whatever. If any of the above rings a bell, this is the place. No upselling, no uptight attitudes, no joke. This place is invested in making a real contribution to the community of West Seattle. If you live closer to another shop, give this one a shot. It's worth the trip, and you might not go back to that other place. The junction is lucky to have EWA at their new location on California Ave. I shop here instead of buying directly from vendors because there's no price gouging or elitist vibe, and because I honestly want this business to thrive. Most of the other customers who frequent this place do too. Moving this shop from 42nd and Oregon to the heart of the junction took an enormous group effort. There's a good reason so many of its customers volunteered to help with whatever was needed. There are also plenty of good reasons I've spent this much of my time and this many words writing a yelp review. Come see what all this fuss is about.
