    Shrewsbury Plumbing & Heating

Three Mondays ago, I discovered a sewage backup in my partially finished basement. I called…read moreShrewsbury Plumbing & Heating and reached them right at the end of the day. A crew responded and cleared the line by plunging the outside clean-out. They were on site for about 30 minutes, and the visit cost $180. I appreciated their quick response and the referral to a restoration company, which arrived within three hours to begin cleanup. Unfortunately, last Thursday night--after a week-long restoration process--the same problem occurred. The next morning, Shrewsbury Plumbing & Heating returned. They snaked the main drain and restored flow. I asked whether there would be a charge since this was the same issue occurring so soon after their first visit, and I was told to call Stan on Monday when he returned from vacation. That visit cost $279. This Tuesday, yet again, we experienced a sewage backup. I called and spoke with Stan, who informed me that the company does not guarantee sewage backup repairs. I asked why a camera inspection wasn't done during the first or second visit, and he explained that they first attempt less involved methods. In hindsight, the initial response amounted to short-term fixes that did not identify the root cause--while generating additional service charges. On this third visit, the crew worked hard and ultimately used a camera to discover a stick lodged in the main drain, which they removed. This visit cost $444. I understand that not every issue is obvious on the first attempt. However, when I call a professional for a problem I cannot resolve myself, I expect that the goal is to fully diagnose and eliminate the cause--not to take incremental steps that allow the condition to recur. I am a career firefighter, and when someone's house is on fire, we take extra measures to prevent a rekindle. That is part of delivering competent and responsible service. Given the nature of a main sewer line blockage and the costs involved per visit, camera inspection should be a standard early step--not a last resort after multiple failures. My criticism is not aimed at the technicians who came to my home; Steve and Nate, in particular, were professional and worked hard. My concern is with management decisions and the lack of clear procedures that prioritize resolving the issue correctly the first time. If a camera had been used during the first visit, this issue could likely have been resolved immediately--saving significant time, stress, and expense. I am writing this review to encourage a more customer-focused approach moving forward. The rating associated with this review reflects management practices, not the field crews who responded.

I've been a customer of Bair Oil Co. for 23 years, but my recent experience with a furnace…read morereplacement was disappointing. When our 48-year-old furnace failed and sent soot through the vents, Bair came out for a weekend service call ($180, which was reasonable) and confirmed it needed replacement. We agreed to move forward and paid a 30% deposit of $2,227.41. From there, the process became concerning. The initial contract didn't include the A-coil for central air. I was asked to go outside during heavy snowfall to locate the model number on the compressor. I could not find a model number. Yet a quote was issued without anyone verifying the equipment on site. The updated contract listed the wrong furnace size, which I had to catch myself. I also had to ask whether soot-filled ductwork should be cleaned -- something I would have expected them to recommend -- and the duct cleaning referral number they gave me didn't even work. Ultimately, I chose another company after being more impressed with their professionalism and HVAC knowledge. When I requested my deposit back, I was told it would take 10 days (minus the service call). After 13 days with no refund, I was informed they had "forgotten," but a check was delivered personally to our house the next day. Bair has always been pleasant when delivering oil, and friendliness counts. But when spending $14,000 on a new HVAC system, competency, accuracy, and proactive guidance matter more. If you're just buying oil, they may be fine. For major HVAC work, I would recommend exploring other options.

I looked up this company's price for propane today online. They are a local company. The website…read moreon 12/30/2025 says 174.9 for 300- to 500 gallons. I called them up for a delivery and was told the price was 2.09.9 for 300 to 500 gallons. I asked why the price listed was 174.9 on their website, and was told no, that price is wrong. So they advertise for 35 cents less online per gallon and expect you to pay 35 cents more per gallon. A difference of 105 dollars. That's what I call false advertising.

As soon as I called Old Line, Jennifer answered and was happy to help me. Appointment was scheduled on a Monday and James, the owner, was here Wednesday. Unfortunately, this was no easy fix and the hvac needed to be replaced. I suffer from a form of inflammatory arthritis that is exacerbated by the heat and would be without ac for a week or more. Do you know what James said? "I've got some window units that I'll bring by so you'll be comfortable until I can get back to install the new system". Within 45 minutes of James leaving my home, there's a knock at the door. It's Jennifer with the 2 window units. Wow, just wow!! Who does that? No large corporate hvac company would've done that. Talk about above and beyond and making us feel like family. I felt as if I had known James for years. Personable, honest, reliable and above all a wonderful human being! Today my new hvac was installed and I'm happy to say it's nice and cool. I can't recommended Old Line enough. If you need any type of HVAC work then give them a call. Reasonable pricing and financing is available.
