Don't let its size fool you, it is much bigger than it looks because of the upstairs and basement. It can feel a little cramped up front because of the front desk and a usually-full table, plus several racks of videos and DVDs and such for view or rent on the left. Books, magazines, reference materials will be to the back. They also have several good meeting or breakout rooms. Years ago, when I was a tutor for Literacy Volunteers of America, I used some of these rooms. They are very quiet. As part of the Mid-Hudson Library System, access includes access to other libraries in the area. That's good because this library frequently does not have literature I'm seeking. But copies of the books can be easily located using the Library System website or services, and a book can be transferred here from any other participating library in a day or two. Parking can be challenging on a busy day. The library does not have a lot, and on some days you are competing for parking spaces on Main St. with spillover parking for the Town Hall across the street.

In my recent travels, I came in here on a whim but came out with absolutely nothing (in terms of adults, there's little to no books on my topic areas and those that were there were all reference copies). However, while it's kids section is still down a flight of stairs here, this place has plentiful books. (I took a quick peek). About the only thing almost useful here were the music CD section up near the door. I almost borrowed to CDs but at the last moment chickened out. Although when I got here, I initial plan was to use the computers and scram, when I came in the door and looked towards the computers, the librarian recognized my intentions and asked for my name - which is okay with me. I couldn't believe that out of 4 computers in the main lobby, none of them were in use. (Later, I did see someone in the room for additional computers, but that's beside the point.)

Pawling's library is one of those places where everyone knows everyone. The kids come hang out in…read morethe afternoons and get lost in the books. Adults catch up with their reading or do some work in their laptop. It's the perfect place to study and get lost in books or a study project. Everyone here is extremely kind, especially Tom. You can ask him literally anything and he's there to help, recommend a read, a documentary, or just help you with your card. One of the nicest and most helpful humans to exist! There's plenty of selections here but if you can't find something in person you can always check something out online. Great little library!

I've only visited this library maybe three times, but it seems like a good community hub because…read morethere was something happening every time. The staff were very welcoming. One made me feel as if I was visiting her home or something. I was even given cookies and tea. She was about to set out snacks for one of the events. The energy is more vibrant than many other libraries, perhaps due to the activities. I haven't taken my family hear but think they will enjoy it more than other libraries I take them to because of the lively vibes. I'm not sure where the parking is, but that might be just because I'm not familiar with Walden. Only once did I park anywhere near the library, which is fine when it's just myself but might be an issue if I bring others if there aren't any closer spots. This RCLS library is off the beaten path for me, but it's such a lovely place that I'm going to try and make the effort to visit more.

I recently moved to Wappingers Falls and wanted to explore the beautiful old building I had been…read moredriving by for the month. I stopped in and found the friendliest and most helpful staff., Joe shared some of the building's history as well as signed me up for a new library card. The next day I brought my two visiting grandkids so they could appreciate the history. The upstairs staff was also so friendly and shared more of the library's history. I love this community!

Here's a mediocre sized library I like to go to, whenever I'm in town and need a useful library…read more It's got a lot of books(one side being the adult fiction, the other being children's books). Nonfiction isn't prominent at all in this place. It does though, have a wide variety of Internet-connected computers(which I believe, make up for this "missing puzzle-piece"!)(Oh yeah, I almost forgot to tell you, they have over 12 Internet-connected computers, along with 2 non-Internet computers for the kids to use, as you see when you walk through the 2 electric sliding glass doors). If you need to use a restroom, there is one here. If you stand over near the flexible folding wall, you'll notice the edge of the men's room door creeping above(there are two separate rooms). I've found a problem there, make sure to wear only one additional layer of clothing over-top of what would be normal casual wear, as these rooms get awful cool very quickly. Need a drink/sip of water to wet your tongue? Yeah, they got a water-fountain too(over between the two restrooms)! This is one of the only library locations in the area to have a water-fountain available. Water is good and cold, no matter what time of year you sip it! Employees here are well-trained in the processes, and can help with almost anything. You can tell, after a wide variety of times, that they know how to "work" for their money! Between fixing up adding money for using their printer(computer printer) to helping people find books to you-name-it, these employees know their jobs mean more than just being "paid by the hour." As a mere note: This place was the former RENOVATED LOCATION to the former Ponderosa Steakhouse, which had closed down in the 1990s(that could very well be the reason why this place has the water-fountains available). When funding became not such a concern, this library moved from a Morton Blvd location to the current place in the mid-2000s.

As local libraries go, Montgomery may be small, but I have always been able to satisfy my reading…read moreneeds, either through their selection or the ease of inter-library loan with other libraries in the RCLS. They also run wonderful programs during the school year for pre-school age children, and their summer reading program for school age children is awesome. In response to another review about needing to be a resident, all municipal libraries are like that, but if you have a library card from one, you can check out books from any RCLS libraries.
