The staff is incompetent couldn't find an appointment then waited almost an hour just to be rescheduled horrible service

Changes your appointments without notice and waits till you arrive to tell you. You get a sorry. Don't care you had to take off or anything.

THE worst dental office ever. Ester the hygienist is wonderful, but the rest of the office staff is terribly unprofessional and totally inept. Had so many stupid issues there that I took my business elsewhere. I'm not even sure if an actual dentist even works in the office. Had an appointment for a cleaning at 11:40. Randomly changed my appointment to 12:20 after l was there. Said they left a message .They did not. Finally get in to be told I need a deep cleaning and that my insurance would not cover it. They did not know how much the out of pocket expenses would be???? Wasted my entire day. read more

I went in for full upper restorative work...bridges, white teeth. What I got after over $10,000 was all the margins off, ill-fitting on all bridges, AND...EVERY TOOTH IS A DIFFERENT SHADE!!!!!!! All "Dr." Sheffer had to do was put the special light against each tooth (before putting them in my mouth) to check the shades. My new dentist did this in less than 5 mins. and noted every single tooth is a different color. Nice going, Sheffer! Also...the charging practices of County Dental are highly unethical! They charged me $200 per tooth for temps and then a month later put in the permanent bridges at $650 per tooth. Hmmmm...nice way of circumventing the "low-cost" insurance. They also whacked me over $2000 each visit (prior to that amount of work being done) to the point that I had paid $7000 in advance of the work even being started! Interesting how County Dental says I own them over $6000 but I stopped seeing them in January and have NEVER received a final bill, never went into collections. That's very telling. They know they did unethical things all around and they now realize I will not allow them to get away with it. Dr. Sheffer is rude, demeaning to women, talks only about his taste in music and movies and never about the work he's doing. He is insensitive, abrupt, condescending. The owner of the practice, Dr. Fertucci is completely absent and useless, and has no interest in the goings-on in the office. I went in for full reconstructive upper work and have had major problems with Sheffer. Fertucci refused to meet with me until I gave him more than the $10K I've already given. Sheffer had been talked to numerous times about how he treats women (staff and patients), one female staff member quit because of him, and Fertucci leaves everything in the hands of the office manager who is not allowed to make any decisions of her own or to even speak her own words. (Heather) I want to point out that the office "manager" Heather, was the one who told me Sheffer had to be spoken to numerous times about his attitude and behavior to women. After I advised I would not have any more to do with Sheffer and demanded to speak with Fertucci, County Dental denied me treatment (a set of 3 caps came off and they would not see me until I gave them more money...even though I had been trying to get an appointment with the owner of the practice). Why would anyone continue to pay for a service that is shoddy at best and you can't speak with the owner to rectify the ongoing problems?? Dr. Fertucci has absolutely no concept about how to treat patients. I have invested a lot of money into my treatment and to have not only the dentist but also the owner of the practice treat me with such disrespect is unconscionable. There is another woman who works for Fertucci named Angela. Angela sat with me, along with Heather, the office mgr, to discuss the things that were going on at one point; Angela swore up and down that from there on out, she would make all of my appointments, and after each, we would meet with Sheffer and discuss exactly what he did that visit. Guess what, Angela never made one appointment and Angela never once met with me again. This is how Dutchess County Dental runs their practice. Nice going Fertucci, Sheffer, Angela, Heather. Had my cleaning with Ashley and she was fantastic. I've been seeing her for 8 years now and she never disappoints! Even her assistant Johmir was very friendly & considerate. Although I'm not a fan of going to the dentist (who is, really?), I already scheduled my next cleaning with her in 6 months. read more

Dr Scheffer is the worst he has no patience at all. After a few shots of Novocain that did not work he became aggravated and told me there is nothing more that he could do for me and I would have to go elsewhere. When I brought my daughter there who was 12 at the time for a toothache, she was a little anxious and moved a little when he touched the tooth. He seemed to be annoyed when she wouldn't sit still. However Ashley is the best hygienist there by far my kids have always loved her . One more thing is their billing, I was told that my insurance has changed and they no longer cover fillings and it would be 50 dollars per filling( more depending on how deep the cavity was) so I paid 200 . When I went home called my insurance they told nothing has changed at all. When I brought them in to have the cavities filled they only filled one of the 2 cavities so know I have to bring them back again! read more

Run from this place and give me back that star...These two thumbs are way down for SHEFFER, he lost my respect and the DR. to his name. He treated me like crap. He ignored me when I said to STOP and continued with the procedure until he was done. I tried to hold it together but the pain was unbearable. I could not hold back the tears. It has been my WORST dental experience by far. This man needs a serious sit down before he violates another patient. On the other hand, Ashley is an excellent hygienist. read more

Absolutely fantastic dental practice. Dr. Schlissel and his staff are great! Very clean, new facility, wonderful and very friendly staff. I was received within 15 minutes of arriving, very new equipment in the exam rooms. Took my x-rays quickly, hygenist told me exactly what she was doing the entire time and where I needed some work done, did not force anything upon me. Multiple practices in the Hudson Valley, and all of them work with each other. Very affordable, even was able to obtain dental insurance through them for $90 for A YEAR! Highly recommend County Dental of Poughkeepsie to anyone in need of a good dentist! read more

Beyond disappointed! Disgusted actually. My 21 year old daughter was seen by Dr. Scheffer for a filling. He spent the first 45 minutes talking to her about out of pocket costs without even looking in her mouth first. She's a student in Poughkeepsie and was referred to Dr. Scheffer by our local dentist for a filling that needed quick attention. She was very uncomfortable during the procedure and repeatedly raised her hand up to indicate this. Dr. Scheffer sternly told her not to raise her hand as he had sharp tools but completely ignored the fact that she felt like she was choking. He just told her to swallow it! When she finally moved the suctioning tool herself, Dr. Scheffer threw a heavy X-ray apron over her to constrain her arms from moving! So now my daughter had a heavy weight over her chest and water pouring down her numb throat. On top of that, he chose to ignore treating the deep cavity and opted to fill a few little cavities instead. Later in the day, Dr Scheffer agreed to speak with me and said he was protecting my daughter from harming herself! Really? He spoke rudely over me and would not answer my question as to whether ignoring a patient's discomfort and weighing her down was standard practice. He raised his voice and eventually hung up the phone. This was the first and last time my family will ever visit Dr. Scheffer's Office. Would not recommend. read more

I went here for a sjmple procedure, Dr. Scheffer has zero bedside manner. Like most people, i am extremely nervous at any dental appointment, the dentist yelled at me like a child and was rough and very unprofessional. I wouldn't recommend my dog to go to him. I left the appointment in tears and he almost ejected me out of the chair. However Ashley, the hygienist, is always very personable and comforting. read more

First of all, I wouldn't even give this any stars but I know that without a star rating my review won't be posted. I have been coming to this dentist twice a week for 2 months. He has drained my insurance money and still everyday I wake up in pain. He told me that he couldn't save some of my teeth, that they needed to be pulled so I went and got a second opinion and the specialist told me they CAN be saved, and SAVED them. I have gone many times to have work done, was injected to be numb and after 10 mins of it not working, I was told to leave. This has happened on more than 1 occasion and yet they have charged my insurance company so now I have to pay out of pocket. When I have had work done, he has left my "fixed teeth" in more pain than before they were worked on. He struggled with the temp. Filling (which I heard him tell the assistant and not even mention to me) the following day the temp. Filling fell out. ON TOP OF EVERYTHING- I have looked over at the tools and noticed they were covered in yellow and brown residue, disgusting dirty uncleaned prior to being used on myself that I had to ask for him to use a new set I felt so uncomfortable. Most recently I Showed up to an emergency appointment for a root canal that was causing me extreme pain (because of work he had done in the past) I was a few minutes late because they never called to confirm my appointment (I called them on my way up to let them know I was a few minutes behind) when I walked in they told me that there was no time to have any work be done. No time for my EMERGENCY appointment and they scheduled it for 3 weeks away- even though I had called to make it for ASAP because I cannot eat or sleep due to pain. The receptionist told me to never come back there again and she was going to call the cops on me (which she did) all because I asked to be squeezed in at another time today so I can stop being in crying pain. I know this review sounds made up because it's such a horror story, but each and every word is true. Did I mention that they told me I have no insurance money left and that I would need to pay cash and I called my insurance company and I still had money left. I am very disappointed with my experience at Dutchess County Dental this morning. I left work and arrived early to my 10:00am appointment. The receptionist told me that since I had not confirmed my appointment, it was given away to another patient. I explained that I never received any notification to confirm the appointment, and tried to find out how I was notified (email, text, phone call, etc.). She kept repeating that they recently started using E-services, and they handle the notifications. She could not tell me how E-services notifies patients and expressed that she would let them know that there might be a problem with their system. I confirmed my cell number with her and mentioned that I have been a patient there for many years. I never miss my appointments and I'm not new to the practice. She did not try to squeeze me in or apologize, only stated that my appointment would need to be rescheduled. I have checked through my emails and texts, and confirmed that I was never notified. read more
