Beautiful place to stay! Lovely gardens and pool area (courtyard)! Room was very quiet with no street noise and spacious accommodations. Breakfast was basic but good. They did have boiled eggs which made me happy as I like to have protein with my breakfast. Carb addicts would be happier though. Waffles, pastries, fruit, etc. the staff was very nice and helpful. The rooms were clean. Could I've used more towels but we didn't ask for them. (With a tropical climate you tend to take more showers.) I'm sure if we had asked they would have provided. Shower only, didn't really need a bathtub. Didn't use the pool area but it looked clean and beautiful. The trees and plants in the courtyard were lush and well cared for. Overall great stay! Expensive, but so is everything else in accommodations here. Pleased! read more

This was not a quiet hotel so if your looking for a quiet relaxing vacation, this is not the place. There are rooster walking around and they were persistent and loud throughout the day and Night. The A/C is very loud so we turned it down while we were out of the room and then turned it off at night only to hear the people in the room above stomp around late into the night and fight loudly at 5am. We were exhausted and couldn't wait to get home just for a good night sleep. My husband killed a cockroach and when he brought it to management's attention, they made him feel like it was our fault by leaving the door open which we did not do. Management sent housekeeping to change the sheets and clean the room, there was no bug spraying of any kind around the perimeter of the room. The pool was great but not kept clean. For the cost of the room, I expected much more. At the least request a room that didn't have a room above it. One of the draws to this hotel on this particular weekend was to view the Parade. We arrived at the front of the hotel an hour before the parade was to start and there was no seating. We had to stand for over 3 hours to watch the parade. We were told the hotel was closed to anyone not staying at the hotel yet throughout the parade more and more people were allowed into the premises. Best place to stay in Key West! The rooms and hotel grounds are beautiful and the staff is amazing. It's the perfect location on Duval Street, close to many delicious restaurants and also close (yet far enough) from the crazy nightlife a short walk up the street. Great little inn. They have a great continental breakfast with fresh belgian waffles. The grounds are neat and very well kept. The pool is adorable and perfectly placed for sun bathing. Walking distance to 2 beaches, bars, shops, and all the great places to be. The only set back is that the room I stayed in was ridiculously small, maybe 200 square feet? Shower was so tiny that i had to get out to shave my legs and barely had room to wash my hair. But the room was clean and nicely decorated. If room size is important to you then be sure to speak to them at booking. read more

This is a lovely property for relaxation and location. Wonderful staff, nice breakfast and afternoon lunch is available at a very reasonable rate. Wonderful towels--always a great amenity. Wonderful relaxing court yard and pool area. Could have used a larger TV but that's not a reason to change my rating. O, and CLEAN! read more

The hotel is amazing! The property has new owners as of late December, 2017 and wow--they are amazing. They truly went out of their way to help us while we stayed there. The location can't be better! We loved sitting on the balcony right there on Duval Street. This property is located on the quiet side of Duval Street so it was super! We could walk just about any place we wanted to go. The pool was super clean, the breakfast was fantastic (I especially loved the fresh cut up fruit and great coffee). When you enter the property, you would never expect seeing beautiful tropical gardens that are so well cared for. Comparing this hotel to others on Duval Street and other places we have stayed in, you cannot beat the price. The staff alone makes your stay so worth it! Congrats to the new owners...you are the BEST! Will be back real soon! read more

Don't stay here if you're looking for a relaxing getaway. Check-in was great and first impressions of our room were great. Then we started to see he reality of the situation. First, the toilet didn't work well. We had to wait over 20 minutes between flushes or toilet paper wouldn't go down. We parked on the property and don't recommend you do the same. The lot is extremely small. Another guest hit our car while we were parked there and now I have a lovely scratch going up the side of my car. They didn't leave a note. We also managed to get stuck in the front of the property, right on the main road. If you like sleep that lasts for more than just 3am-6am then stay away from the historic district and especially the Duval House. There is a bar right next door that stayed open well into the night with karaoke. Every 5 minutes someone drove by with loud music and honking. There were other guests taking shots right outside of our door. Then the street sweepers and trash trucks started up around 5am and kept going back and forth until we left around 9am. It would've been nice if the man who checked us in let us know we were going to get the shittiest room of the entire property. It's too bad because the property itself is beautiful. read more

I was looking for a decently priced place to stay that still had personality. I really dislike just being another door down a bland hotel hallway. The Duval House was on old cigar factory dating back to the 1800's when trade with Spain through Cuba was prolific. Its a small compound of about 4 or 5 small buildings that connect through classic hallways and stairs cases throughout the tiny complex. The court yard connects all the buildings creating a hideaway where they serve breakfast every morning out of a small bungalow type structure. The front part of the building has a great view of Duval street with old school rocking chairs witch are perfect to have a drink at home while people watching. They have privet parking in the back for about $12 a day. It was safe and quite so i never needed to worry about the renal car. In short I had a great time here and hope i get the opportunity to bring friends here in the future. read more

DO NOT BOOK with the Duval House. Once you click "submit" on the reservation, you are agreeing to pay for one night's stay. They will not refund your money. My husband got sick 6 days before we were supposed to stay. Three days later, it was apparent that he was not improving and would not be able to travel. We called the Duval House to cancel and get a refund. They would not refund our full amount. They charged us a fee equal to a night's stay. If you look on the Expedia page, you will see no mention of this policy (https://www.expedia.com/Florida-Keys-Hotels-Duval-House.h900423.Hotel-Information?chkin=01%2F11%2F2017&chkout=01%2F12%2F2017&rm1=a2&hwrqCacheKey=fe3d8bf8-80fc-4e60-ab61-88ee08cfa880HWRQ1482183634804&c=8464208d-f90a-4bae-82c3-aee787a8b736&). So, as you can see, no matter what, you are charged a fee equal to a night's stay. Very quaint place to stay. It was clean and quiet and the staff was polite and friendly. They sent us a text with some events going on during our stay. No irons in the room FYI. The continental breakfast was typical of a free hotel breakfast, but the coffee was horrendous. All and all we would stay here again. Excellent location for getting around Key West. read more

A 5-night stay in November was my first time visiting Key West. Duval House is fantastically located right in the center of everything. The room in which I stayed was very charming. Best of all was the peaceful courtyard. Flowers and plants all around, a wonderful spot to relax with my morning coffee. Breakfast was excellent with a great variety of food to choose from. I will definitely plan to stay here again on my next visit to the Keys. read more

Never made it here but reviewing my experience overall with booking and after. The hotel double charged me for my reservation and when I discovered their mistake, the hotel staff blatantly denied double charging me! Hotel staff insisted that it was impossible that I was double charged, even though I have my bank statement to prove it. I had to have my bank dispute the 2nd charge to get it corrected. Then my reservation was cancelled by the hotel for Hurricane Irma (not their fault) and they said they would refund my money. For well over a month I have been contacting them for my refund. Staff does not follow up or return my calls, excuses are given about their 'system being down', they are short staffed post hurricane so the refund will take a few extra days etc. NOW (over a month after Irma) hotel staff is refusing to provide me with a refund and are offering me a credit to come back and stay there at another time (NO THANKS!), they told me to either take the credit or dispute the charge with my bank, so disappointing! read more

Great location, nice grounds and clean. I slept well and they are very accommodating before checking in and after checking out with your bags. My only problem is the Internet situation, because it is a very large property there are several Internet access points and you must sign into at least two. For me the coverage was patchy and it was inconvenient because I needed to be in communication with my job and had to finally tether with one of my other devices. This was the only issue, everything else was great, the property, the staff,the room and the breakfast was good as well. If Internet is not a must for you, then this is a great place, location is perfect in relation to all activities. read more

Honestly the best bed and breakfast that we ever stayed at! The location is right in the middle of everything, close to the beach and all the restaurants and bars. The staff was super nice. They told us all the best places to go and talked with us about Key West and their experiences there. The rooms were extremely clean and beautifully decorated. It felt as if you were in your own house, very comfortable beds and pillows. I often have problems with hotels beds but these were even nicer than in my house. The breakfast was good as well, there were fruits available which was nice. And the pool was salt water which was a nice change from the chlorinated pools all the time! I recently had the pleasure of spending a week at this beautiful home away from home. The trip was a Christmas present from my son and his wife. My son and I were once residents of this wonderful island and i was lucky enough to have come back and stayed at this great hotel. I say hotel but the Duval House is more than a hotel. It has charm and quaintness unlike most hotels. It is very private and at the same time is located right on Duval Street. Six of us stayed in a lovely suite with our own private deck. Beautiful! The owners and staff of the Duval House are some of the nicest people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. On the first day of our arrival i did the unthinkable and probably the stupidest thing i have ever done. I brought a bottle of beer out by the pool and by accident the bottle slipped out of my hand and fell into the pool and broke. I was mortified. Sick that i could be so careless. Not only did i inconveniece the owners but also the guests. It was 4:30 in the afternoon and the guys had to empty the pool clean it and refill it. It wasnt reopened until the next day around the same time. I was sure we would be asked to leave but instead John and his partners couldnt have been more compassionate.. I know they had to be upset but they never showed it. I was sick over what i had done but these kind gentlemen made me feel like it wasnt that bad when i knew that it was. I have never experienced such kindness and understanding. The island of Key West is very lucky to have these guys as the new owners of the Duval House. They made a terrible beginning a wonderful ending for me. I couldnt apologize enough to them so i promised them i would write a review. The Duval House Rocks and so do the owners John, Jeff and Greg and the entire staff. If you are looking for the best place to stay on the beautiful island of Key West look no further than the Duval House! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! They turned an awful experience into a wonderful vacation for me. Thanks Guys!!! And remember lesson learned the hard way NO GLASS BY THE POOL!!!!!!! read more

We LOVE the Duval House! November was my 3rd stay and I hope to be back soon. There are many wonderful things about Duval House besides the location.(but for those of you who need to know about the location, If you are not familiar with Key West : this is a peaceful respite in the center of the hussle-bussle of Key West. Located on the main drag so you can walk everywhere, but once you close your door or go into the courtyard you are in paradise, far from the crowds)...The rooms are all beautiful and have lovely appointments. The pool is warm and secluded amid fantastic greenery. The breakfast bar has make-your-own-waffles, hard boiled eggs, a wonderful fruit assortment , oatmeal, cereal and pastries. (I am confused why any of the other reviews say anything negative about this breakfast....) AND...you sit out in a courtyard that is stunning while you enjoy your morning coffee and breakfast! The staff is not just friendly. They become your friends. It is a bed and breakfast the way it USED to be....A warm, friendly place with a beautiful room, a comfy bed and relaxing grounds. Then you can walk out the door and be a tourist without ever needing a car or cab. We rented bikes (right next door!) and rode around the island, to the beach, etc....If you are looking for the staff or amenities of a sterile hotel chain this is not the place for you. If you love the idea of a clean, beautiful Bed and Breakfast and are looking for something unique and wonderful, give Duval House a try! I'll be back for sure! read more
