If you're a curly head, please reconsider your life choices and go find a curly salon. If you want…read morea tousled, retro look and restyle your hair everyday, maybe you'd like this. But expect to have your haircut decided for you not with you. I have shoulder length hair I was trying to grow back out. I said I wanted to keep length but clearly needed some help with dimension and layers from a early pandemic self-cut. Leah had already decided what she was doing. The wash was fine, but then she used a towel to tightly pull my hair against my scalp (a major curl no no). The initial layering would have been fine, but then without checking with me, she started twisting large sections of my hair and razoring them!! I was horrified. I knew she went too high and I would end up with awkward short pieces around my scalp and that not paying attention to my curl pattern meant I would end up with ringlets that look like they've been hacked. She then diffused while tightly scrunching my top curls and shaking out the rest. I wear my hair in it's natural tight ringlets, not tousled out, so this didn't provide a realistic assessment of the cut. After washing it at home and letting it curl naturally, I've had to trim quite a few legging ringlets and have found I have a some wierd short curls around the top layer that I'm not loving.

I usually give the stylist very general guidelines to work with (desired length and no bangs) and let them do the rest. My family and friends that have seen my haircut have given me compliments left and right. If you want a detail oriented stylist who cares about making you look your best, go see Danny.

I moved to Atlanta last year, and finding a new stylist and salon is always one of my biggest…read moreanxieties when it comes to moving. I've had the unfortunate experience of hair nightmares when I first moved to other cities. Somehow, the trend always seems to be that the second salon I try ends up being the perfect one for me...and Atlanta has been no exception to this. I first tried another salon nearby, which left me totally unhappy. They charged me a TON of money for serious roots and the tiniest of trims...which altogether took well over 3 hours even though my hair is barely past my ears?! Yikes. Anyhow, you get the point. I would have to return to hunting for another salon. In a fit of desperation, I did try a box dye to fix my roots but...it did not end well. I called around town, but stylists were either full up for the weekend or unwilling to book me until they scheduled a separate color-correction consult session. I then came across Urban Evolution, and it seemed to fit the bill: a local salon, all the cut-color-smoothing services that I like to use, reasonable pricing, quality products, and a range of stylists to pick from. Best of all: I was able to snag an appointment the next day with Erin! I later discovered that she was the salon owner. She did an amazing job! I never felt judged, rushed, or not listened to. She asked a lot of excellent questions, taking the time to really understand my hair and styling preferences. She was very easy to talk to throughout the appointment. I left feeling like myself again (only with better hair)! I can breathe a sigh relief knowing that I've found "my" salon here in Atlanta. I highly recommend Urban Evolution to anyone, and also definitely recommend Erin! I'm a very happy client. To close out my review, here are some of the pros and cons of Urban Evolution... PROS: They have online booking, which was a huge plus for me as I work a very busy job and don't always have time to call during business hours. I also like that their website has a "match" quiz to help our you with a stylist, which I've never seen before but very much appreciated. A very cool feature! The salon itself is beautiful, and the staff are professional and super friendly. I can tell that everyone goes the extra mile to make clients as comfortable and cared for as possible. They always offer me a beverage, for example. At my last visit, I was bemoaning how I could never figure out how to style my hair wavy. Not only did Erin show me, but she had another staff member film her doing it on a few sections of my hair, all the while explaining each step, and then texted me the video so I can use it to guide me at home. They use and sell quality products. They have Oribe and Davines, both of which are fantastic lines. I've started using Oribe Silverati shampoo/conditioner at Erin's suggestion and I'm now obsessed - it's really helped to improve the health of my hair (I do a lot of coloring and heat styling). The salon schedule allows for evening and weekend appointments, which is very helpful for folks who may work busy jobs and not be able to come in during traditional 9-5 weekday hours. The salon is situated on a street with a lot of yummy restaurants and cafes, so you could always come meet a friend before or after for brunch, lunch, or cocktails! I've tried several at the recommendation of Erin and other salon staff, and all have been excellent. I love supporting local business, so I see this as a "pro." CONS: I'd you've read this far and you're still not convinced, I guess I could say that the only potential "con" is maybe the parking. They have street parking, or for a few bucks you can use the parking lot for the woodworking shop across the street. But even then, to me this is a pretty weak "con" because I've never had any trouble finding a spot (I've literally parked right in front of the salon the last several times that I've been there). Go try Urban Evolution...like me, you won't regret it!

She cut way too much off the top and the fade quality was sub par at best. When I got home I noticed the hair up top was all different lengths too which is definitely not what I wanted. Now I need to wait for it to grow back in before seeing someone who knows what they're doing. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.

And so I called and emailed and texted but I didn't get a response so I thought, well maybe they were great and maybe now they moved on or something I don't know I was kind of thinking all kinds of thoughts and I wrote them because they had something listed on next door neighbor so I reached out that way and thought well this probably isn't going anywhere and it's a waste of time. But actually I heard from Steven and his colleague and they were really apologetic and I'm making an appointment to go there. Because I think they're the only ones who can give me what I want they understand they keep upgrading and learning new styles of cutting hair not just like I got some scissors I'm going to put a bowl on your head and cut your hair and that's all I know how to do. Just because you go to the beauty college you have to keep up your skills just like a lawyer does just like a chef does you have to keep learning. No one wants that bowl on your head cut. So I'm going to give them a try and I think I'll be pretty happy so more to follow

In this neighborhood, $24 for a men's cut (which includes a shampoo) is very reasonable. I have gotten cuts from multiple stylists here including Ayeshah (the owner, I believe) and Neka, and they all do a great job. This place's location in the Midtown Promenade shopping center makes parking a cinch. Finally, I rarely have issues getting an appointment when I need one even when booking last minute. Importantly, the staff here take the appropriate precautions for Covid-19. Haircuts are appointment only and patrons must have their temperature checked before sitting in the stylist's chair. All staff wore masks and/or face shields during the two cuts I've gotten here since the pandemic started, and I was even requested to wash my hands prior to my most recent appointment. If you live in Midtown and are in search of an affordable, quality haircut, Axiom is worth checking out.
