Dog run users are also fairly conscientious about not bringing in aggressive dogs. The Parks Dept really needs to step it up and bring the place up to the standards of Manhattan dog runs rather than blow its budget on 7-figure renovations of an overlook that few people even use and a million+ dollar skate park of interest to very few kids in this neighborhood.

Only downside is the stench that emanates from the wastewater treatment plant nearby (since 1952). FYI, for those interested, you can enter a lottery to tour the wastewater treatment plant! Owl's Head Park has a rich and interesting history. Nonetheless, my daughter wanted to have some friends/family celebrate her birthday here. The park is a decent size park, where a lot of people have set-ups for birthdays. A short distance away, they have a play area for the children to do their thing. If you walk up a bit, you can get some nice anemic photos toward the water, during this part of the season, you may spot a cherry blossom tree, or two. Overall, it's a wonderful family oriented park. I'd say if you have children, a dog, a mate who enjoys walking, a couple friends who want a picnic and/or some quiet time, this park would definitely suit your needs!

She likes that there are a variety of dogs and smells, a good stretch of turf to run, running water, and benches to jump on or hide under when it all gets to be too much. It's nice to stroll through if you are in the area. Just remember that there are no restrooms or water fountains. Apparently, "frequent attempts to add active recreation facilities to this site failed as Parks determined that the site remain the most beautiful passive park in the city."

I've passed by this lake in the southern part of Prospect Park many times during races I've done…read morethere. During the nice weather seasons the lake offers a picturesque view. Today it was still covered in snow and ice from the recent winter storm we had. From what I've read it's also a decent catch and release fishing spot with largemouth bass, bluegills, and other fish populating the waters. Also, it's a 55 acre man made freshwater lake. I need to bring my rod here this summer and get some fishing in!
