I live close by to Dukes Beach Park and it's a okay dog park. The people who come often have big dogs which is not always work best in my favor with my mini poodle. Benji is a trooper and he loves playing with pals bigger than him. What i do like is how this park has a second gated area as an option for those smaller dogs who are too fragile to be around the big guys. The only problem i have about this park is the care and cleanliness the city focus on this dog area. You can tell the grass hasn't been touch for a while cause they're holes doles dig in and sometimes you can find turf if you're walking on the grass. This place has so much potential to interact with your dog or throw like little cute gatherings . But Instead they just have chairs thrown everywhere and bench tables flip where i found it useless at this case to even take up the space. They also have a water fountain which doesn't work all the time so make sure u have your water bottle handy ! read more

Samson Loves this place and so do I. I have been coming to Dyker Beach dog run for almost a year. I enjoy coming here to meet new pups and their humans. My Samson, hes a 10 month old Newfoundland that is full of life and super friendly. He loves coming here to meet his furry friends and humans that love them Dyker Beach Dog Run has two separated entrances; one for the run itself and one to both of the actual enclosures. This is incase a dog may run out when someone comes in which happens often due to excitement. There is a small enclosure where the smaller dogs mainly hang out with a bench and some chairs. The large enclosure boasts one giant tree where you and your furry friend can chill in the shade. There are also multiple areas with benches, two picnic tables with benches attached , and a few single yard chairs. The large enclosure is about a .25 acre big (I'm guessing lol) it has grassy areas but its mainly gravel and dirt covered floors, just like the small enclosure. Its more than enough room for your guy or gal to tucker themselves out. They both drain well after the rain, or snow. Be mindful, it can get muddy and have a few puddles due to the grassy area having poor drainage. The cool thing is sometimes the Country club/ golf course next door donates used tennis balls to the dog park. Don't worry about water during the warmer months because they have a fountain there but it gets turned off during fall and winter so bring your bottles of water. All the dog parents are pretty nice and dog people. So don't wear anything that you want the keep nice because you will get dirty and have lots of dog drool over you. Bring your own poopy bags because there aren't any provided but everyone is nice and vigilant about curbing so they wouldn't mind giving you a freebie. WARNING!!! THERE ARE NO LIGHTS OR BATHROOM TO USE HERE. you might have to use a local business that will only work if you come to the park during business hours. The renovations are finally done! It took the city a year to do a few things. What else is new? There is a little dog run and a large dog run. There are new benches to sit on and two water fountains and what looks like a hosing area. There's a bag dispenser with actual cute bags inside.. until they run out. There's a mixed ground covering for the large dog park. It's very clean for now. There's a large gate area where you walk in and then go to one side for the little dogs and the other side for large. Seems to have a lot of dogs coming here.. but you have to watch your dog. Some of the dogs that come here are not particularly social or know how to socialize properly and owners that don't know how to respond properly either. read more

The renovation of this dog run is amazing! It has been closed for a over a year. Before renovations it was a space that had hardly any grass, broken chairs, broken picnic tables and poop everywhere. Today, the dog run is filled with green, hearty grass! The middle of the area is covered in small white gravel/sand. There is even a water fountain for the dogs! The dog park is split in two-the large area for the bigger dogs and a small area for the small dogs. Both areas are big enough to allow for running, depending on the size of the dog. I am very pleased with this dog run. Of course, it is not perfect. The gate doesnt line up with the groove the the cement...so it doesnt lock closed. luckily, the first gate to the dog run locks. Its just the second gate leading to the big dog area doesnt lock. Also, an issue we had with the dog run before the renovations was the garbage. The city hardly ever picks up the trash. It should be done daily. I think its done weekly. NOT ENOUGH. Then there is also dog poop in the far corners of the dog run left by irresponsible dog owners. I dont understand that. you have a dog, clean up there poop. Especially in a dog run. Dogs love to roll in poop....its not good if there are piles of poop everywhere. No one else will clean it up BUT YOU. SO CLEAN UP YOUR DOGS POOP. read more

After the renovations were finally done, the place looks amazing. Before, the place looked extremely dead and dirty. Now, there seems to be more life to it, and even more furry visitors. Most the run is made of gravel, and grass surrounding it. They now have 2 sections tot he run - a big dog section and a small dog section. When the weather is nice, we take our fur kids there almost every weekend, that's if we're not off hiking. It's a great place and great way to tire out the fur kids. We'd be there for a couple of hours, and then they'll be pooped for the rest of the day and night. We have corgis and they're a pretty energetic breed. There's plenty of space for them to run around and most of the people there are friendly. However, like any dog run, there will be incidents at times. There's usually a group of older men with their pitbulls and rottweilers who think they own the dog run. Their dogs aren't bad but these owners sometimes fail to control them, so if you do go to this park, just be wary of that group. They're usually seated at the far right of the park in a pact. If you stay closer to where the entrance is, that's where most of the friendlier groups congregate. read more

I've been to all the runs in Brooklyn, and this is by far the best. The ONLY reason why I did not give it 5 stars is because it is missing a water source. This park is very large, very secure with fencing, and had very responsible dog owners within. I love this park so much, I moved in across the street! I take my two dogs twice a day, and they have never been happier. Majority of dogs are MEDIUM to LARGE in size. Small dogs do come, but there is not a separate small dog area. Things it has going for it: - Large area - Good fencing, gates and entry area - Some shade Things it has against it: - No water - No bathrooms for humans near run - Dirt ground cover with lots of broken glass - No permanent seating for humans - No poop bags, but has an empty dispenser for plastic shopping bags - Limited shade - No separate large and small dog runs Very similar to Owl Head Park Dog Run in that the only reason it got 2 stars is because of its size and fencing. Add a small dog run and bring in water would make it a 3 star run. Go a step further and add better ground cover, shade and permanent seating would make this run a solid 4 star run in my opinion. Love it! The renovations took a long time (about a year?) but it was totally worth it. I wish it would have opened sooner so we could have enjoyed it in nicer weather but its really wonderful. There is so much space and its clean and designed very nicely. My dog has a total blast each time we go. I love that there are benches now and the tables are great as well. I'm not a fan of the gravel type stuff because my dog gets really dirty in it but the grass around park is lovely. read more

We took our dog here to his first dog run ever. He really enjoyed his time playing around with the other dogs. The space itself is pretty huge given that it's Brooklyn so we were happy to be able to find some place where our dog was allowed to run around off leash. Other dog owners seemed very friendly and attentive to their dogs. Water was available, but the only downside was there's a lot of poop on the outskirts of the park in The Tall Grass areas. Giant run. Clean. Owners are mostly attentive. Water in the summer but the drains get clogged causing gross mud puddles. Plenty of places to sit. Garbage cans get full. Parks dept needs to empty the cans more often and fix the drains. read more

This is in response to the previous review posted on 4/13/13. For a dog run in NYC, this is actually one of the best - and I've been to all of them in Brooklyn. No, there is no running water, but how hard is it to bring your own? This place has plenty of shade! This is one of the main reasons I bring my dogs here in the summer. There are 3 giant trees, each with a *permanent* picnic table under each one. Alas, there was a 4th tree, but it was uprooted in Hurricane Sandy. At last count, there was also about 15-20 plastic patio chairs. No poop bags? Bring your own poop dogs like everyone else. Problem solved. And if you're the type who does not, the local dog-owner community has left multiple shovels so you don't even have to bend over if you don't want to. The people who frequent this run care very much about it - for it's care and for it being a safe place to let the dogs play. No separation for small dogs? This is true, but the place is big enough so that it's not even needed. Despite the lack of grass in the immediate area around the two big trees at the entrance, the majority of the park is in fact grass. I go to the park about 4 to 5 times a week and I rarely see broken glass or other debris. If I do see some, I pick it up. It is likely from kids sneaking in at night for a place to drink. As for the lack of bathrooms for humans ... I guess your just sh*t out of luck. Don't go if you have diarrhea. Or just cross the street to the Nathans, or walk into the Dyker Beach Golf Course clubhouse (public golf course) and use theirs. I recommend this run. If you do not live in the neighborhood, parking is always easy to find within a block or two. All of the things the previous poster complained about are either completely untrue or just not pertinent. read more

I wish this place got more reviews! This is my favorite dog park to bring my dog to! This park is HUGE - plenty of space for your pup to run around. Good amount of shade and sunlight as well. 1/4 of the park is grassy and the other 3/4 is not so your doggy has options of where to run around! There is also an area for small dogs! Water is available through the fountain by the entrance of the park. Parking here is extremely easy - weekends included! Highly suggest bringing your pup to this dog park if you live in Brooklyn! read more

At last a dog park in the dyker heights area for dogs. On a given weekend, there's lots of dogs here. It's fairly nice, one area for big dogs and one small for the little ones. It's spacious but there's not much else there. Bring your own water! read more

This dog park has been newly renovated and the construction site is finally done! Everything is cleaner and I'm happy that there aren't clumps of poo everywhere (pet owners actually clean after their pets now)! The park is much more spacious than before and I enjoy taking my dogs out to play; it's very clean here and safe to hang around (even after the sun goes down). read more

I really like the new renovations, even though it's annoying when the sand/gravel gets on your shoes and helps leave paw prints all over your clothes when your dogs jump on you. But oh well, it's nice and big, which provides plenty of room for my two to run around and get all their energy out. It was a great idea to add water fountains and a small dog run too. It seems a lot cleaner than the old run, so I hope it stays that way. I'd just add more mesh around the entire run, not just the small dog section. Some of the thinner dogs could slip through the wrought-iron fence if owners aren't careful. read more

My dog loves to come here and it's the only dog park close to me. The down side, there's A LOT of dirt/dust. I wish the entire park terrain was grass or soft wood chips because I have to bathe the dog every time I come back from here. Also concerned of my dog breathing in all the dust because she rolls into it when playing with other dogs. Sometimes there is also poop that other owners do not pick up after. read more
