The ambience was light and service was quick between servers setting up for a large party behind us and another party in front of us, and the two teenagers beside us who received a lot of attention from the younger server. I know because ever since Martha Stewart started collecting the stuff, finding Fireking Jadeite pieces now is very difficult and prices have shot through the roof. The chrome fan, milkshake maker, chrome details around the bar, black and white photos of old Verdun and hanging plants also add to the retro vibe. Service was friendly and quick. The toy included with the kid's meal was a sweet touch. All non-dairy milks were included in the price as well, love that. Everything was tasty and affordable. The service was impeccable. Bilingual, friendly, and patient. A real contrast to the cold shoulder we got at Cafe Nevé in the Plateau. My three year old had a great time playing with the toys downstairs. The play lounge is thoughtfully arranged so child-minders can sit, eat, and converse alongside their charges. I will say some of the seating could do with a good cleaning though. Even the other patrons were friendly; we had two positive interactions downstairs. If you're looking for a place that is welcoming to your kids instead of looking at them disdainfully, this is it!

There are a few differences compared to the one in Mont-Royal. This one is larger, with a bit more climate/temperature control, and some booths for more comfortable seating when available. The decor is different. You have a different motorcycle on one wall, an elevated shelf of really cool reel-to-reel tape recorders, and a different style of rest room decor. Service and food was slightly different. Earlier this week at the Mont-Royal restaurant, I raved that hot tea came out as steeped leaves. Here, the same type of tea was steeped from traditional tea bags. Also, not all of my breakfast came at the same time. The server promised that the rest would come out "in seconds." After about 300 of those, I let my waiter know I was still missing parts, and he brought them out immediately. None of this is enough to subtract a star. As I mentioned earlier, I hope to get to more of the L'Avenus's, but it's so difficult not to go back to the ones I have already visited and liked.
