Visited Janine on a Saturday early morning, basically right when they opened, and was lucky enough to walk in with no line. I was surprised by how big the place is! The first thing they did when we sat down was offer us a taste of their juice of the day such a unique and special touch. We honestly loved EVERYTHING we ordered. I wish I could've tried the whole menu because everything looked incredible. Hands down, one of the best brunch spots in Montreal. That said, I wouldn't wait in line for an hour to eat here , but to be fair, I wouldn't wait an hour anywhere . Still, 10/10 recommend if you have the patience and love good brunch food!

Waited for about 30 minutes on a Sunday at 11 am. There's no reservations whatsoever, at least on the weekends and holidays, to my understanding. The place seems to attract tourists and locals alike, their special dishes are recommended for the usual regular customers, suggesting that a huge portion of their customers are returning customers. Our hostess was great. Very sweet and welcoming and patient in explaining the menu to us. We left her a very high amount of gratuity tip just because she went above and beyond and it was clear she was happy at what she does. Overall, see recommended dishes in my pictures below. Highly recommended this place for tourists and locals alike.

Had brunch here on my last day in Montreal. Glad the wait wasn't too bad because the food was just mediocre. Loved that they gave each of us a shot of juice when we sat down; it made us look forward to our experience here. Strawberry smoothie - nothing special about it but it's a decent smoothie. Odd that they garnished it with a slice of orange. Carrot cake - Was a bit afraid when it came because the slice was much bigger than I hoped since I don't care much for carrot cakes. But this one had the perfect balance of sweetness, density, frosting, and texture. My whole group of 7 shared this and it was the perfect amount. French toast (came with cherry and almond jam, mascarpone cream, berries, caramelized cashews) - A letdown through and through. The brioche toast made it difficult to want to keep chewing. The best part about this dish was the strawberries, sadly.

Best breakfast restaurant in the city as far as I can tell. Be prepared to wait in line on the weekend or you can reserve on week days. Our group of four all had the eggs, bacon & ham breakfast with a shared platter of pastries. In my opinion it was a lot. I'd recommend trying one of their pastries, they taste like they're from a high end bakery. Its something you don't see at other breakfast places

Came here for brunch. There was a line outside and we arrived about an hr after they open. We didnt have to wait too long luckily. The service was excellent and our food was delicious. We got the juice sampler. The green juice was our favorite! Everything was good except for the ham, it was a tad on the salty side. I didn't care for it but other than that the food was amazing! Would recommend!

I've been coming here (and on occasion the sister restaurant Regine Café) since they first opened back in 2019. Even though the prices, like everywhere else, have gone up by as much as 40% since the pre-pandemic days, this is the one place that I feel is justified. The service is always courteous, professional and friendly. The food is always on point! Just want to give kudos to a restaurant done right! I've had a bunch of items on their menu repeatedly and have always been 100% satisfied.

Amazing brunch place in Montreal. Please keep in mind no reservation, first come first serve. People is willing to stand outside for 20 - 30 mins for a brunch without complaints. Yes, Janine Cafe is the one! Number one in Verdun, Montreal. It is not near downtown Montreal, more like a local brunch spot than visitors brunch spot. We ordered Latkes, Champi, and Gaufre Petits Fruits. Both Latkes and Champi are their signature dishes. If you enjoy having smoke salmon, take the Latkes. If you love mushroom, take the Champi. If you love waffle with fresh fruits and chocolate sauce, take the Gaufre Petits Fruits. They are all amazing and will give you a WOW factor. I am not living in Montreal, but I even willing to drive down Janine Cafe for a second time brunch before I left Montreal.

We visited this brunch restaurant twice, our first time being at the Wellington location named Janine Café. On our second visit to Café Régine, we ordered the Grilled Cheese, the Champion and the Gros Jambon. For the beverages, we ordered some coffee, hot chocolate and a matcha latte. The Grilled Cheese was delicious. The complex flavors of the duck confit and the balsamic glaze balanced each other out well, elevating this simple diner dish to a memorable brunch item. The Gros Jambon is quite good as well. It is one of their more classic options with eggs, sausage and ham. The pork, duck and orange sausage was tasty, but we could not really taste the duck and the orange. We really liked the old-fashioned pulled ham. It tasted different from the regular ham they serve in other brunch establishments. The Champi was quite tasty as well. It's their version of an eggs benedict with mushrooms and a red pepper sauce. For three main plates and three drinks, our meal came up to 130$ with tips and tax included. Since they only take reservations on weekdays, make sure to get there early if you want a table on the weekend. We went to Café Janine for our first visit with a reservation on a weekday. For our second visit, we decided to try their Plateau location (Café Régine). We got there 30 minutes before opening (at 8h30) on a Saturday and we had to wait over an hour outside. If you are wondering which location to choose, we would suggest you try Café Janine. They seem to be the least busy of the two locations. Their menus are slightly different so check in advance which one looks more enticing to you. For example, their (delicious) Fried chicken and Waffles is only offered at Café Janine. Wow. My cousin lives in Verdun and when we decided to meet up for brunch before returning to Ottawa from Montreal, she recommended that we all meet up here to eat. The latte bowls were so good! I ordered the Doré, which was this wonderful brioche with peanut butter, bananas, and marscapone. We went during the week and the place was packed. We had to wait a little bit before we were seated but it is worth it.

What a beautiful spot to start your day! The food is an art with extravagant flavours! Pleasant service as well. My family loved it!

Overall experience was good. Be prepared to wait 45mins to an 1h if you decide to go on the weekend like we did. But trust me it was worth the wait. As soon as you are seated you will definitely forget about the pain. I had the chic croissant and was automatically amazed by the spinach béchamel. My other party had the chicken and waffles and of course I tried it. Total success. The mimosas was worth every sip. I totally recommend!!

But before even checking in, we had to walk through Bar George ~ and instantly knew we wanted to eat there. We were lucky enough to grab a last-minute reservation, and Julien took a good care of us throughout the evening. His recommendation of the Beef Wellington was spot on (it's already one of our favorite dishes), but this was hands down the best we've ever had. I ordered the lobster risotto, which was excellent with just the right amount of spice. My son had the 10 oz striploin steak with homemade fries (chips), and it was absolutely delicious. I also loved the Canadian touch of coarse salt on the steak, plus the option to choose between Béarnaise or peppercorn sauce. Julien also mentioned their pastry chef placed second in a NY competition, and the desserts absolutely lived up to that reputation. We tried the pineapple and coconut pavlova and the "lick me hazelnut" ~ both beautifully presented and incredibly delicious. We also ordered iced coffee and a latte, and noticed something interesting: this was the second place where we found Canadian coffee to be smooth and mild ~ such a nice change from the often bitter, over-roasted American coffee. Yes, dinner was a bit steep ($300+), but it was worth every penny. Between the rich history, stunning design, outstanding service, and unique cuisine, I would highly recommend Bar George. I would absolutely love to come back!!

The server seated us without warning, and when we went to order, each item we requested had run out. No Cuban, no chicken melt, no several other delicious sounding things. She gave us 10 more minutes to look over the menu and come up with a plan B. Truthfully I wanted to jump ship, but couldn't because our drink orders were already in, and I was captain of this gastronomic journey. We'd set sail without proper forecasting! We settled on the baked egg and salmon bowl, neither what we were exactly craving. The baked egg was fairly tasty, a shakshouka-esque experience accompanied by rustic bread for hasty dipping. The salmon bowl was excellent, with delicious dressing, but the salmon portion was oh-so-meager. It made me wonder if the lunch rush had given the kitchen such a beating that they had split my salmon filet in half and served it to me and my neighboring table friend. Check out my photo and tell me if that portion seems right? The lore says Michael Jordan worked his rear off every game because he always told himself there was probably at least one kid in the stands who came there to see THE Michael Jordan. Well this kid in the stands caught Olive et Gourmando taking the night off. There is a risk for peril if you choose this restaurant, especially if you are in Montréal for a limited time!

This place deserves a review and it deserves positive recognition. They are versatile in their offerings, and healthy but not overdoing it. I would assume many were customers first and then realized that this would be a chill place to eat. With my progeny, I almost made the mistake of eating in the Old Port. I mean, maybe chocolate crepes for dinner would have been more consumed than the healthier cheese and chicken alternatives at Chez Jose, but the relaxing vibe, and wholesomeness of it all, made me so relieved that I didn't settle for a tourist trap. I went a long time ago, back in 2021, and I was so happy to have gone again since they relocated to Old Montreal. The exterior is this new building, but inside, it feels like you're in an old building with rustic textures and colours. The ambiance is so lovely and it truly is the best place for delicious brunch items and taking cute pictures too! My friends and I visited on a Saturday morning without reservations, but we went relatively earlier. We were seated right away for a table of 4 and were served teas and coffee. I ordered the Bone Marrow & Duck Confit which consisted of a country-style bread, duck poached egg, bone marrow, confict duck leg, manchego shavings, herb salted crumble and green peas. It's a massive dish and honestly everything tasted amazing all together. The bone marrow was perfectly cooked and the duck poached egg meld everything together. They also give you another bowl so you can put the marrow once you're done eating it. The bread was needed to soak up every part of this delicious dish. Other items ordered was the Foie Gras (Chef's specialty) which had brioche bread, duck poached egg, caramelized onion compote and crispy proscuitto chips. The chips were a wonderful item to pair with the seared foie gras. The foie gras was perfectly cooked. The Rustic is another fan favourite which had brioche bread, duck poached egg, sautéed mushrooms. pulled pork, potatoes and argula sprouts. it is such a beautiful dish - nice colours, many ingredients and placed well on the plate; not to mention it was so good too! The last item was the Croque Monsieur which has country-style bread, maple-glaed Gaspor acon, confit tomatoes, cheddar, duck sunny side-up egg on an endive salad. You can't pick it up and munch on it, so you know how big this must have been! Even cut into pieces, it requires some maneuvering to munch on it. Great place for brunch. Awesome service too.
