In 2024 we took our van. A 2005 Chrysler Town and country. The a.c wasn't working. So, he said he charged the a.c. and, he did it for free. Because, all the hoses for the a.c needed replacement. We found another mechanic to do a full tune up. He charged us $600 for the new hoses. He NEVER replaced the hoses. Not only that, but when he had our vehicle for the a.c, someone broke in our vehicle. Took a couple things. I asked him why he didn't tell me. He had no excuse. He had such a clear picture of the guy. He refused to call the cops. What business owner wouldn't call the cops, if someone broke in your business?? He does nothing but screw with people's vehicles. The owner here is phenomenal. The first time I came in I had an exchange with him. He was very personable and seemed like he really wanted to help. My vehicle needed a smog and he was willing to take care of it quickly. Unfortunately it did not pass but he mentioned all I needed was a few more miles on my vehicle and assured me that would re-calibrate all that was necessary to pass. I decided to drive it around and upon my return a few days later I was greeted quickly by Eddie. Both he and the owner took care of me and just like I was told, my vehicle passed with flying colors! I brought my car here based upon word of mouth by someone I knew...BIG mistake... i needed the brake pads replaced and everywhere I called wanted to charge so much but E&J were beyond reasonable. Keeping in mind as Im telling you this that my car is only a few years old and prior to taking it to them, Ive never had them replaced before.. i always take my car to dealer but again they charged too much.. got my car back very quickly but a couple days later they started to grind... i knew i still had a little bit of time on the original brakepads and they were not even close to hitting the rotors so I called him and took it back in for him to look at and he basically kept the car all day to tell me there was no problem and it just might take a little while to break them in... still continued and again this car is only a few years old and never made a sound till they got ahold of it... took it to dealer for them to look at it to make sure rotors weren't affected... they weren't but he said whoever changed the brake pads used the cheapest product they could find and Ill probably have to change them again within next couple years... no wonder they were the cheapest I could find... you get what you pay for I guess...never will I take my car back there again read more

We recently moved to the area and were looking for a new honest mechanic/shop. And I think we have found it. My wife had a rattling noise with her suv. I looked under the hood and noticed the top of the bolt that holds the air box and broken off. So I sent the wife to this shop and the mechanic was very polite and told her to take a seat. She did just that and noticed the amount cars coming in and out and could easily tell a lot of customers liked this shop. 15 min and $20 later the job was done. They were able to remove the broken bolt and replace it with a new one. Very honest and made the transaction very easy and painless!! I drove all the way to Merced from Modesto on my own and ended up having some care trouble, Emilio was able to get me fixed up and back on the road within a couple hours. I'm not used to driving so far in my own so when I had car trouble I began to panic but Emilio helped get me a tow truck to take my car there and really helped calm my nerves. I sat there for a couple hours while the repairs were being done since I wasn't from around there I had nowhere else to go, lunch time came around and he bought lunch for all his employees as well as myself. White smoke coming out of the back and less than 5% on our cross country trip. Looked at the reviews and every one said to go to E&J. It didn't take long to see why. Emilio was friendly and helpful and an honest friendly. He smiled with his eyes. His shop is a bit funky but that does not detract from the competency and diagnostic capability of his mechanics. The car was tested, pressure washed and my wife and I were told what to do. There was no other work done so Emilio didn't charge. Wow! Got cold water from him and he likes dogs. They did an emergency stormy January Saturday morning alternator replacement on an old Jetta. They found the part, did the work, offered a fair and reasonable price, and were kind, accommodating and efficient. It doesn't get better than that when you are on a long road trip and have very little to choice. They are just off I-99. Use to be a good place with great service up until recently. Receptionist is unprofessional, did not allow me to speak to anyone regarding my car services when I called. Claimed to have high volume of calls but my husband was there and no phone calls were being answered. The receptionist didn't allow my husband to call anyone to pick him up if we left our car there to be looked at. Car wouldn't start one morning after working great. Called AAA and asked the driver what shop I should tow it to. Was told a lot of people were towed there so I called and was told by whoever answered the phone that they're the cheapest in Merced so I went with them. Was quoted $800 (after a very short time the car being there) to fix something wrong with the computer and a fuel pump. Said f**k that. Had it towed to my house and had a friend look at it instead. He replaced the fuel pump and it works fine. Don't trust these people. read more

Took my Truck to this place. We bought this truck from cars 4 less, the sales man told us they put in a new transmission. The truck would not go into 3rd gear on the shifter. It would pop right back out when we put the shifter in 3rd gear. Cars 4 less said take it to their shop which is E and J. The truck set there for 3 days. Each time we called they would tell us they are working on it to call back, there was excuse after excuse. On the 3rd day we went over to E AND J to see what was the hold up. They told us we havent had the time to look at it to bring it back in 2 weeks. 2 weeks mind you. All the time each day they told us they were working on it. It was lie after lie. Dont buy cars from cars 4 less and definitely dont bring them to this place for repairs. Now we have to go to our regular mechanic and pay out of pocket if we want it fixed. Bad place scammed me and 2 other people that i know personally from hundreds of dollars to thousands. BARR has already been there and checked out the place. Lies all the time they never answer the phone and never fix your issue the first time. They don't show old parts or they don't give you an invoice. I know a guy who got horrible engine work done here and his problem was not fixed in a year!!!!! Supposedly fixed a transmission rebuilt but ended up breaking a week later after weeks of waiting. If I could give this place no stars I would. I bought a Jeep just a few days ago so I needed smog for registration to new owner. I took my Jeep here cause I saw good ratings but that was a lie. My Jeep just got smogged a month before and passed but when I took it to E&J they failed it. They failed it TWICE. But then I took the Jeep to Smileys shell station and it Passed!!!!
