Had car issues this past weekend that came to a head two days ago. Having to work out of town, I had issues with warning lights coming on and a Map Sensor that somehow got chewed up and was causing a problem I didn't know WAS a problem, which I didn't want to get worse and cause me to miss valuable time and income I needed. I was out it town and had a problem with my A/C in my 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I called the only name I recognized, "Big O Tire" and asked if they could work on the A/C. They didn't have the ability. Being out of town and terrified of mechanics, I asked Big O for a referral. They sent me to JNT. It was late in the day but I called and the nicest woman said they'd take a look. John from JNT came out and started by checking my cabin filter. Then he spent about 30 minutes checking things out and somehow got it going. It was a blockage somewhere. He says "looks good, thanks for coming by." I'm like: "can I pay you? I would put a zero star but can't! Took our van in to get inspected John is not very sociable or nice. Van ran perfect when we drove in. It just passed smog, and he said that the smog was all bad on it and needed extensive repairs on it. And when we left had a exhaust leak on right side and only was running on 7 cylinders. My husband inspected it when we got home and found they had broken a exhaust bolt in the head! Still haven't figured out why it's running on seven cylinders. Obviously none of those things he did to it were a issue before we took it in or it wouldn't have passed smog for days prior. Obviously he's a scam to get you to fix the things he broke to make money off you. Said the bushing were eorne out on front end when they had just been replaced. I live in San Francisco but visit Merced frequently. I've compared prices and Yelp reviews between the two cities. What I've found with JNT, and most other Auto Repair facilities in Merced, is there are far more positive reviews and pricing that's WAY more affordable. JNT Automotive is right up there with the best of them. In SF I was quoted a VERY high price for AC repair/servicing that included REPLACING the AC compressor on my 2003 Ford Explorer Sport Track! To be fair, they did not charge me for their time. John diagnosed the problem and charged, what I considered to be, a very fair price for the AC service & an oil/filter change. JNT Automotive is a family run shop, everyone is friendly and every detail of the repair is explained in a way that's understandable. The shop is NOT the uber clean,sterile scene you might see at some high priced "boutique" operation so don't expect a lattes on tap or the latest copy of Forbes. wifi? I didn't ask. It is however, a clean, well organized shop and my vehicle was returned to me as clean as when I turned it over to John and his crew I've worked in the Auto Repair Industry for 30+ years so I kinda know who to turn my keys over to for repair work and when I should just put it in reverse and back away. Always reliable, always fast service. I'm always satisfied, whether I need an oil change or new motor mounts. They're consistently cheaper than other services, and I find that they don't try to up sell me on anything I don't really need. That's really the most important thing in a mechanic for me: They are HONEST! I've stopped going anywhere else for my car before I go to them. My Hyundai broke down and I was towed here as per the recommendation of the tow truck driver, as he said that he takes his own vehicles here for repairs. I'm really glad I took his advice, as the mechanics were really nice, and helpful in explaining what was wrong with my car. It took them a few days to repair my crankshaft, and they even gave me a free quote on fixing my flywheel. They even gave me a 12,000 mile warranty, and a free tow for next time, just in case my crankshaft acts wonky again.The free car ride back to my house to wait for repairs, along with candy in the office were really nice bonuses as well for me. It was an emergency decision, we live too far away to tow, and our car was severely overheating and was not safe to drive. We checked YELP and found a tow service (Mike's Towing, see my 5 star review for him) and we asked him to recommend an honest repair place, and he suggested JNT. They are super nice, it was late Friday and although it was too late to work on it, they secured it for the weekend. Monday morning they called with a diagnosis, I approved it, and by Monday afternoon it was ready. We haven't even picked it up yet, but I am making this review based on how we were treated, the fast diagnosis of the problem, and the reasonable price to fix it. They did not try to oversell me, it was 100% square business, and I think that is wonderful. By the way, it needed a new radiator and thermostat. It is a 2002 Subaru with the original radiator and thermostat, and we had seen leaking coolant but could not see where it was coming from. Perfectly logical. read more

I can't say enough about this place! We are from San Diego and were in route to Seattle when our water pump blew. We had no idea where to go, and having been taken advantage of before by other mechanics, we were leery. We pulled off the highway and found ourselves in front of this shop. They were honest and helpful. They showed my husband under the hood everything that they saw. The job was finished in half the time as the estimate, because they put two men on it to help us get back on the road. Our final bill was $300 less than the estimated cost. I have never left a mechanic and been charged LESS than what the estimate was! They didn't try to gouge us at all, even though they knew we were in a bind. I got a flat yesterday, and as this place is very close to my work, and has come recommended by coworkers, it was an obvious choice to take my tire. I limped to the station on a spare that needed air as well. Richard Burger was working the desk, and he was very friendly! He asked if I had a little time to wait, as they would have to check the tire to see if it could be repaired. Long story short, he had me ready to go in 15 minutes, the tire was patched, and all at no cost. He said I had a tire pressure sensor that should reset once I started driving, but I told him that it had been stuck on for over a year. He laughed and told me to bring it back so that they could check it out. The waiting room was nice and cool and much appreciated as the weather was hot and humid yesterday. This shop is over priced!! They gave me a diagnostic on my car. The so called "issues" they priced at $2095.41! I was absolutely shocked considering I had just taken my car to the dealership for an oil change and diagnostic test 2 weeks prior. The woman in the office and the owner of the shop were extremely passive aggressive towards me, to the point where I felt like they were taking advantage of the fact that I was a young woman who doesn't know much about cars. I took my car to another shop and provide the mechanic with the diagnostic report that JNT gave me. There was 5 things that needed to be fixed on my car not 12 like JNT Automotive reported. The other shop estimated roughly $1000 for repairs! That's another grand or so that JNT Automotive shop was going to charge me. That's absolutely insane!! Trust me. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME. OR MONEY. Please shop around for better automotive shops. I don't want anyone else to be taken advantage like I was. read more

Never go here! I was told I needed a new radiator because mine was leaking like a sieve" I told him I didn't need it changed because my husband knew how to change a radiator. He told me it wouldnt drive off lot. So I had a tow truck pick it up and take it to my home. My husband has looked at the radiator multiple times and it is always full of water. They did change cameshaft sensor for a little over $300. I thought the price wasn't bad till I took it to Modesto the very next day and my car dies on me again. I took it to my regular mechanic and was told they changed the wrong sensor it was the crankshaft sensor that was bad. They also told me that the radiator was not leaking. read more
