I asked him if I would need a work permit pulled for these repairs and he said "no". I thought F.S. Plumbing was a licensed plumbing company. I later found out it is not a licensed plumbing company. I also found out from both St. Louis County and St. Charles County that a permit would have been required for these four repairs. When Frank came out to do the work, he tore out a part of the wall in my bathroom, he said the only way to repair both drain pipes was to cut a hole into the metal vent that was inside the wall. I asked him if it could be easily repaired and he said that it would be an easy fix and that I could fix it myself with a piece of metal and a few screws. He told me he thought it was a cold air return. When I told him my cold air return was in the hallway, he didn't respond. I then told him I thought that was the vent coming off my furnace and asked if he wanted to go to the basement to look. He had been in my basement earlier to look at my outdoor faucet pipes since he was going to repair them as well. He declined going to look in the basement to see what the vent was and he proceeded cutting into the vent. He cut a large hole in the vent and the way that it was cut I saw no way to repair it since the one drain pipe was running right through it. I decided to Google "can you cut a hole in a furnace vent?" I got the quick response of "absolutely not". I called my local fire marshal and he agreed that it should have never been cut due to it being the furnace and water heater flue vent for carbon monoxide release. I called a retired HVAC friend and he said Frank, a plumber, should have known that you can't cut open a furnace flue vent. He told me not to pay Frank until I found out how much it would cost to replace the flue section. After I researched and found out this information, Frank asked to be paid. I told him I couldn't pay him that day until I found out exactly what it was going to cost to replace the flue vent. He said he wouldn't leave my house until I paid in full. I felt threatened and intimidated so I wrote him a check for the full amount of $1495. Frank left the house and, I found out later, he immediately drove to my personal bank (of the check) and cashed the check that same day. Also, when Frank left my house, he didn't tell me to not use my heat or hot water, or to turn them off in the basement. I could have died of carbon monoxide poisoning if I hadn't called my friend, later, who told me this fact. My friend told me how to shut off the gas furnace and water heater valves after Frank left to cash my check. I didn't have heat or hot water for over two weeks until the flue vent was ordered, delivered, and replaced. (The vent was a special order and came from out of State since it was a vent from the 1960's and no other manufactured flue vents would fit properly or safely). Frank refused to pay for the repair which turned out to be a replacement of the section of flue vent between the two bathrooms. I got 4 bids for him so he would see I was trying to get him the lowest price for the flue replacement. The HVAC bids ranged from $1500 - $2500. Frank came over to my house a few days after his initial work and said he was going to "fix" my flue vent. He was holding a tube of caulk and a piece of metal. I told him again that the flue section had to be completely replaced. He didn't believe that the flue had to be replaced even though a fire marshal and six HVAC guys said the situation was very dangerous and the vent section had to be replaced. I spoke to Frank, off and on, for three weeks giving him ample time to do the right thing and pay for the flue replacement. He refused, and the last time I texted him he texted me "God is watching". I had the flue vent replaced and I paid for it. I, also, had to have another plumber redo the drain pipe repairs that Frank charged me $895, I had to pay an additional $1000 for the drain pipes to be moved to the correct position, away from the vent. I had to have the wall repaired with new dry wall and tape since the HVAC man had to tear the wall out to get to the entire flue vent. I contacted YELP in late March since Frank has the red YELP GUARANTEE but they have not responded to my filed claim. I have contacted the Missouri Attorney General Consumer Complaint department and they have opened complaints against YELP and F.S. Plumbing and are currently investigating the claims.

Less than a year later, while selling my home, the St. Louis County occupancy inspection failed because their installation contained clear code violations, including a missing required expansion tank and a non-compliant flex connector. When I contacted SOS Plumbing, the owner told me he intentionally didn't install the required expansion tank because he was "trying to save me some money" and didn't know I was planning to sell my home. Instead of taking responsibility for the code violations, he quoted me another $800-900 to correct his own work. I refused to pay twice for the same job and hired another licensed plumbing company, paid an additional $750 to bring the installation into compliance. A homeowner shouldn't have to tell a licensed plumber they're planning to sell their home to receive a code-compliant installation. Paying premium prices should mean getting professional work done correctly the first time--not paying someone else to fix it later. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend SOS Plumbing and would urge anyone considering to think twice before trusting these 5 star reviews!

I used Bieg sometime in August/September to unclog a floor drain. Service was fine, they mentioned…read morethey were switching to Marick at that time. I paid their worker when service was done with my credit card. 7 months later I received a collection notice for what I assume was that service visit. Figuring it must be an error i tried calling the office. Saint Louis office couldn't help, as all accounting is done in Iowa. No phone number but got 2 email addresses. those emails forwarded again to another person who said they can't assist as its been turned to collections. I checked my phone, no voice messages in the last year, no letters sent, I checked the email address they had on file and it only had emails from December 2025 but no emails sent in that time. My best guess is the payment was kicked back for some reason and their office never reached out or at best they attempted a call and didnt leave a message. My honest opinion is they were transitioning to Marick and it slipped through the crack and now they just sent everything to collections. At this point, I cannot even receive the original invoice, but the collection agency also cannot provide it. So I am just gonna go through hoops for the next month over $100 bucks that I may or may not have paid at some undisclosed time last year. I will just find another (actual local) plumbing company.

I didn't have to pay for the part but for the labor. Labor hours that included the time it took for the person to call the company that makes the hot water heat, the time it took for him to go to the supply house to get the part, AND time for him to eat lunch. I thought since they sold us this HWH and installed it, it should have been covered 100% The incompetent: When they sent us a bill, I went online to pay it. A few weeks later, a rude (very rude) person from their office calls and asks when we are going to pay. I tell her we already paid. I even went to my credit card account to verify it was paid. A week later we get another bill in the mail with "Second Notice" and "Collection" stamped on it. Was this supposed to be to embarrass us? If they could reconcile what comes in with the accounts, they could have saved themselves a call, postage, and a now very irate customer. Just clownish.

This bid was actually less than the competitors, and they had not been around as long as Harster! It was an easy choice. We scheduled to do the replacement in January. Jim and his team came out to do the install and addressed some additional needs to increase the air flow, make the existing unit up to proper code, and make the filter track so it fit filters appropriately. The last unit installation I'm sure was a DIY job or done by a less qualified company. Jim addressed all those issues. I was on a meeting when he was all finished and didn't get to go see the finished product until after he left. It was beautifully done and very neat.
