The girl at the front desk was super nice and showed me around the studio. The instructor Emily came up and introduced herself and explained a little about the class. She then proceeded to kick my butt (in a good way!) with a series of weight training exercises done with repetition. Great experience!

I was looking to get back into the swing of things after a decade-long hiatus since I quit dancing competitively, but wasn't sure where to start. Knowing how difficult it can be to find studios that offer dance classes for adults in most cities, I feel lucky that I did. I've never been a huge fan of traditional fitness classes and I've tried nearly all of them...Pilates, kickboxing, CrossFit, you name it. But I'm also not too keen on working out by myself at the gym because let's face it--it gets pretty boring. I wanted the social aspect of going to classes and meeting people who would hold me accountable to show up---and I knew my only shot at staying in shape was finding something fun that didn't feel like work. I used to find myself coming up with excuses to get out of other fitness classes that I had taken in the past but going to Turn is something I actually look forward to. It's become much more than a fitness routine for me--it's a community.

However, I think this studio deserves endless love and is a great spot to start or continue your pole dancing journey. While I've only taken two classes so far, I plan to take many more. I highly suggest getting the three pack. We spend the beginning part of class stretching and doing either cardio or conditioning. The rest of the class is spent learning and practicing pole moves. Orchid, the owner and teacher, is amazing. She's a great teacher who has incredible music taste. Depending on the poles set up, the studio has four to six poles to dance on. There is a privacy curtain that goes up during class so people walking on Broad St. don't see you while you dance. There is also a private big room in the back where you can change and leave your bags. I love all the purple in this studio. If you're new to pole, sign up for their "Intro to Kinky (Intro to Pole)" class on Tuesdays 6:15-7:15pm.

I have worked in several gyms so I really know what to do, but I needed the motivation to have personal trainer. When my agreement was up for the year, I signed up for another year, but did not sign up for personal training. Unfortunately, I had been going out of town all the time because my brother has been very ill and in and out of the hospital with end stage emphysema. Months went by and I wasn't able to use the gym because I was in Pennsylvania. Then come to find out they kept charging my account outrageous amounts and when I called, they said it was for personal training. I told them I never signed up for personal training and they insisted that I did. I I told them over and over again and even dropped off a letter to them stating I never signed up for the personal training only for the membership. I even wrote cease and desists letters. So I do not owe them money for personal training. I even have documentation to show that I was out of town the date that Brandon signed the contract. Because it was not me and it was not my signature on the contract that they showed me. Again, I have disputed this over and over again and they don't care. I wrote letters to them, I contacted my credit card company and reported it as fraud. They still say I owe them money. I have informed them that he forged the contract. That I would never sign up for a years worth of personal training. Especially with my brother being sick. The most I've ever signed up for at any gym was three months.. Because I know what to do with the equipment and I know the programs I need to use from working at gyms. These gyms include the Ymca, MAC, Sport & Health Club and i helped open a Cross Fit. It's appalling that this has not only happened to me but to others. They are taking me to court for the $250 that I DO NOT OWE. I have no problem filing a counter suit and I intend on fighting this in court. I do not sign my name with a squiggly line. Any company that allows this to happen is not trustworthy and should be shut down. Not to mention that Brandon (Brendon) should be charged with forgery.

The weight area is stacked, plenty of racks, solid free weight selection, and the vibe is actually motivating. You walk in and want to lift heavy. The biggest issue is that members constantly leave weights, bars, and other equipment wherever they finish using them, and it apparently just stays there until the next person picks it up and moves it to its new home. Re-racking weights and returning equipment should be the most basic rule in any gym, yet here it feels completely optional. Instead of being able to move through your workout, you will more often than not waste time searching for the equipment you need because someone else could not be bothered to put it back. What makes it worse is that this is not a hidden problem. There are signs throughout the gym reminding people to re-rack weights, but they do not seem to be enforced in any meaningful way. At that point, the signs are just decoration. I also regularly see personal trainers and membership coordinators standing around the front desk joking, talking, essentially socializing while the gym floor stays disorganized. There is nothing wrong with this, and morale does matter, but when there is clearly downtime, no clients to attend to, and the gym is that disorganized, that time would be better spent keeping the floor in order, returning misplaced equipment, and reinforcing the rules that are already posted. Then in the future they could reclaim that time instead of letting the same problem continue. For a paying member, it gets old fast. People join a gym to work out, not to spend part of every session cleaning up after strangers and hunting down bars, plates, or attachments that should already be where they belong. If you are considering joining, just know that the convenience of this location is doing a lot of heavy lifting, because management and basic gym etiquette are not.
