It is a friendly, not particularly difficult course located on an Air Force Base. Apparently, the base has been renamed Joint Base Langley-Eustis. Our foursome were not good golfers overall. All four of us probably shared a bag of clubs which is such bad form! Still, no one complained about us, and I'm sure we let those on carts play through. I recall one of the holes being just off Weyland Road and if you're not careful, and we weren't, you could hit into a car driving by. Glad that never happened to us! Thanks Englewood for providing hacks like us with an inexpensive way to enjoy nature and our few solid club to ball connections in a relaxed setting!

The sandwiches were excellent, the fries were crisp, and the clubhouse felt like a place that takes pride in every detail. We also had the pleasure of meeting Keith, the owner. He was kind, welcoming, and genuinely happy to hear I had just broken 100 for the first time. His pride in the course came through in every word, and his hospitality made the day feel special. NO ONE handles cross over like that, the worst it could be you fit in after the one scheduled tee time goes off....you would alternate the tee box. They could care less about pace of play just want the summer revenue. Sad it used to be a great spot to play and always treated you fairly. $8 for a small bag of balls about 25 in the bag after you pay $165 to play!!! This review won't matter to them.

I got paired up with Marty and George. Two guys about my age who were visiting from Upstate New York. They were joined by their two sons and a daughter-in-law. We teed off at 7:30a with an overcast sky and temps in the low 70's just perfect golf weather if you ask me. There was no one behind us and no one in front so we were right on stride with similar games. I like the 5 different tee box options. The tee boxes are wide, grassy, well maintained and well marked. The fairways were wide with not a lot of trouble if you did happen to go wide. Even the 'out of bounds' was friendly. There is a fair amount of water but it does not really come into play except on four holes. Hole #7, at 143 yards over water will remind you of #17 at Sawgrass and the Island green. Hole #9, is a 450 yard par 5 & the Signature Hole. This offers the 'risk reward' option where you have a decision to drive it about 250 yards to a land bridge. You will then have about 150 to 200 yards over the water to the green. If you are fortunate, the pin will be in the front. If not you will find it's a very big green with lots of elevation changes. The staff is great and very friendly and welcoming. The green fee might be a bit on the high side but it's worth it for a great OBX golf experience.

I was eager to try out a few courses during our vacation in the OBX. Since we had the space in our rental minivan, I had the opportunity to pack up my clubs. The location is just across the bridge from the OBX entrance, about 15 miles north of Kitty Hawk. They have an online reservation system but on a Monday morning, I had the flexibility to walk-on the course. For a mere $49, my fee included 18 holes and a cart. I'd say the course is on 'par' with some of the FFX Cty courses. There were a few others golfing early in the morning. With the ease of a cart and the semi-privacy of my lone golfing, I cracked the course in just over 2 hours.

The greens keeper staff were out collecting aeration plugs and keeping the course in great condition throughout the day. The course itself has some very challenging holes. Many par 4's and par 5's have greenside bunkers making bad approach shots punishable. There are some water hazards but most don't come into play and add to the scenic beauty. Pro staff were friendly and the cafeteria was welcoming. Had a cheeseburger after my round. Was so good. Cypress Creek Golfer Club is definitely a hidden gem. Mid week mornings is just over $62 and worth it.
