We loved this course and the friendly people there. We didn't eat at the restaurant, but bought drinks which they gave us a cooler for (which attached to the front of the golf cart). Range balls were included here and because the weather was ? there weren't many players allowing us to feel like we were on a private course. They double tee box starts off of #1 and #10 and when you make the turn it is not unusual that you might have to wait 20 to 30 minutes for the tee times booked to clear before you can continue your round. NO ONE handles cross over like that, the worst it could be you fit in after the one scheduled tee time goes off....you would alternate the tee box. They could care less about pace of play just want the summer revenue. Sad it used to be a great spot to play and always treated you fairly. $8 for a small bag of balls about 25 in the bag after you pay $165 to play!!! This review won't matter to them. read more

This review is for the pro/management. Booked through GolfNow. Paid and confirmed tee time. We drove 45 minutes to Kilmarlic and the pro said he didn't have us on the sheet. Um, okay, showed him our confirmation. He literally said "Yea, that happens sometimes, nothing I can do, we're full." Couldn't get a twosome out to make it right? If your club chooses to use GolfNow as a booking platform, shouldn't you honor a tee time? Really bad look for your club. Played Seascapes the rest of our visit. Friendliest staff up and down. Beautiful club! The course was kept in fantastic conditions. The greens rolled fast and the course is not very forgiving. However, the views were stunning and the staff were very welcoming and attentive. We will definitely return to Kilmarlic on our next trip to the Outer Banks! read more

Played May 29. May 31 and June 2. Got a decent discount because of where we were staying. Pulled up and the stater Steve had our carts already pulled up to the cars. Put our bags on while we went to get cold one at the bar. Where we met our bartender Abigail. Sweet Abigale. She's funny snarky and all around great drink slinger. We told them we were gonna play other places Weds and Friday. Hooked us up with a 9:50 tee time Weds and 7:30 Friday. Amazing how much the price dropped. Now the course. It played long as it was wet. But rolled fast. The greens were lightning fast. Couldnt even hold a wedge shot. No pitch marks on the greens and hardly any divots on the fairway. The more we played the better did the course. It was hard without being tricked up. When I'm on OBX. This is my go to!! read more

The course was in very good shape. The pace of play was excellent. Everyone at the course was extremely helpful and friendly from the Proshop staff, to the starter, and the Rangers. We also ate lunch at the club and the food and service were outstanding although a little pricey. read more

Terrible pace. Owner of the course plays a 5-some middle of the day. After some in his 5-some let me play through as a single, he pulls the do you know who I am bit. Tells me to get back behind him. His group was slow as it was - the effect was like that boat get stuck in the Suez Canal. Terrible experience. His playing partners were even embarrassed by him. Greens a mix of packed mud and clover. Would suggest the Pointe, Nags Head, or Duck Woods. Friendlier people to give your money. Or, see if the owner is playing that day - then avoid. Unbelievable place! They have the friendliest and most passionate staff. From the pro shop worker, to the bartender, to the starter. I have been so sick of starters and pro shop staff at most courses, just all stuck up, seemingly pissed off people for no reason. Its unfortunately everywhere in golf now. NOT HERE! I just played there two weeks after after hurricane Dorian. I've played there before and on all occasions the course was mediocre at best. This time the experience will keep me away for good. When I checked in the clerk told me that "a few bunkers were still unplayable" and that "there was some standing water on a few places on the cart paths". This was a flat out lie. Almost all traps were either full of water or full of debris. A large majority of the cart paths were under water, and the course had standing water on almost every fairway. The course should not have been open for play at all. I finished 18 holes only because I was furious about what I had been told when I started. The cashier and the starter/ranger completely mis-represented the course conditions only to make a few bucks from us tourists to the area. I would never play there again. read more

This is a 1/2 star course at best. Awful maintenance, poor conditions generally, rude staff, no organization in sending golfers out so there are constant backups. The ranger (when he does show up) is rude and tries to hurry you faster. I will never play there again and I urge regular golfers to play elsewhere. Not enjoyable at all. Add to it they allowed a group of 5 (YES FIVE !!) consisting of 3 men and two ladies on the course in the middle of the morning. This is BAD BAD BAD management, they slowed everything down. This course is one of the more interesting in the outer banks area, but it's poorly managed and that results in a frustrating experience. We played twice this week. The first time we had a 7:50am tee time. When we arrived, they were running ten minutes late at the first tee. That surprised me since the first tee time is 7:00am. How do you fall behind after only four groups have gone off? Our second tee time was for 7:00am, the first tee time. We arrived on time and hit some balls before arriving at the first tee at 7:00am. There was no starter. When we were on the tee, a single drove up and said the clubhouse had told him to go out ahead of us. We let him go and tee'ed off at 7:05am. Now I understand how they got backed up in the first hour. The club allowed several twosomes to tee off behind us. We were a foursome. Twosomes play faster, of course, and we were pressured by these groups. We let two groups through. Then, two holes later, their ranger approached us and asked if we would close the half-hole gap between us and the twosome in front of us. I checked the time. We were playing at four-hour pace, which is considered fast for this club. Also, this club is cart-included, like most resort courses. All the par threes and two par fours don't allow driving on the fairway, putting you far away from your clubs when you hit your ball. At the end of the round I went in and complained about our tee time bing usurped and being pressured. They were unapologetic. They claimed that the starter's car broke down and that that it was unusual for their first tee to run behind. But if you read the other reviews, you can see that this club is not known for good customer service. It's a shame. This is a pretty course, but we have always enjoyed golf more at the Pointe across the way. read more

Played here today for the first time and had a blast. The course is a lot of fun, very challenging and beautiful. I'm not sure about the accuracy of a few of the distance markers, but that is my only complaint. The pro shop staff was very friendly and welcoming. Great course! Friendly staff that even brought the cart to our car and gave us a free yardage book since it was our first time there. Really enjoyed the course layout, with a wide variety of shots required. Lots of water, but also many scoreable holes if you can keep the ball in play. Went on a Saturday morning and was surprised to have no issues with pace of play. read more

Staff was very friendly and accommodating. We always play an afternoon tee time so that we can spend time at the beach during the morning. In the afternoon, the course was wide open. Played our round in 3 hours 30 minutes. Course was in great shape. The layout of this course is fantastic and in my opinion, the best golf available in the outer banks! The course itself is challenging, fun and well groomed. The price at the time we played was $89 we had a $20 discount with the resort property group we were renting our beach house from. I removed three stars because of the pro shop staff's snarky comment about applying the discount. Paraphrasing: 'What's $20 when your spending thousands on a beach house rental...maybe you should have played the [cheaper] Holly Ridge GC down the street'. I kid you not - that was the comment made as I paid for my round (with the discount). Inappropriate and poor customer service...I will reserve my tee time somewhere else. If you do intend to play here bring some bug spray. The 8th hole was the worst - I could barely concentrate putting. read more

Course in good shape. Problem is super slow play. 3 hours on the back 9! 4 groups on par 3 17th. There was one group holding up the entire course. Never saw a marshal intervene. Spoke with person in the golf shop after skipping 18 so I could get home and he claimed they asked the slow group to speed up. Clearly they were ineffective and not not forceful. Will NOT go back. My family and I recently visited the Outer Banks area on vacation, with a day set aside for a round of golf. Thankfully, we chose Kilmarlic. Course was in good shape, challenging and well maintained. Paid premium rate and was put behind a slow five some (yup, 5 players all playing during prime time!!!) with a three some behind our foursome, who of course was always pushing behind us. We waited on every hole, in every tee box (5 tee shots and all those practice swings!!!) and then on every fair way while the five some took their time on the greens. Called in to the pro shop, the ranger came by and blew us off rather rudely. He couldn't care less. (And we we weren't even obnoxious about it, as we probably had a right to be). After nine agonizing holes, we stopped in pro shop and there too were met with indifference and a lack of any concern. Left after only 9 holes (no apology or refund offered or even any indication that they cared) canceled our next tee time there and won't return. Managed poorly. If you have the nerve to charge premium rates, have premium service in your pro shop and on the course. Thumbs down for Kilmarlic. Go across the street to the Pointe golf course!!! The course conditions were good and the layout was challenging. definitely better than the usual straight links that you will find at the beach. I had a great time actually playing but ......The customer service was absolutely below par. I interacted with the staff about 5 times during my play and each time leaving me wondering why I just paid $90 to play here. First, my wife and I had to wait for a cart for 15 minutes because ether the ones they had were all dirty or they were waiting for more to come off the course. The starter had discussed to much information with us about the people playing in front of us. The Marshall had told the people that we were playing with to stop fishing for balls, when we were waiting for 5 mintues before every shot. (he should have been talking to the people in front of us). The beverage server on the course was great. She opened a tab with my credit card and left it at the clubhouse. When going back to the clubhouse to retrieve my credit card they staff at the bar couldn't find it. Hopefully by tonight I will get a call telling me that they found it. This place could have easily got a 4 or 5 star rating if it weren't for the poor management of staff. Two of my favorite pasttimes...golf and the beautiful OBX region of NC! I've been visiting the area for many years now and nothing pulls me in more than a round at the beautiful Kilmarlic Golf Club. I see some discussion about premium rates but I must say comparatively you get MUCH more bang for your buck at Kilmarlic. Here you experience the "little extras" that make your feel like your arriving at a premier Country Club and you are the VIP guest. The cart staff greets you at your vehicle with cart and answers to questions you may have. The golf shop staff is very helpful, and despite being busy will take the time to address you as a valued customer. And the food is top notch (not to mention on of the best Bloody Mary's I've had). All this before you even step foot on this picturesque; well maintained risk/reward design. Last year, my buddies and I even had the opportunity to be picked up in a van, dropped off at the front door, AND taken back home for $10/person! If you're looking for the cheapest closest round of golf then try one of the other courses but if you're looking for a memorable golf outing while on vacation in OBX give Kilmarlic a shot...you won't be dissapointed. read more
