Just a heads-up: I only award a 5th star to team members who go the extra mile to help out. My granddaughter was craving ice cream after soccer practice, I encouraged everyone within 50 miles to swing by just for the treat! It's that good. They have almost every soda or pop imaginable. I even found "Big Red," which instantly brought back some fond memories. However, you'll need to visit to truly experience the Old Country Store vibe for yourself. Today, my 5th star is a triple award: a Bravo, Zulu shout-out to the Ice Cream ladies, two cashiers who assisted my granddaughter, and a BIG Bravo, Zulu to ALL Eagle Island customers everyone were courteous and friendly. Such a great place. They have everything from fresh produce, fresh seafood, candy, lots of tasty jarred items, etc etc etc. Everything is priced very well so skip the grocery store. You'll usually find a local food truck parked outside, too and don't forget the ice cream! read more

Great country store atmosphere. The fish market features local catch and fresh is an understatement. We bought some of the best shrimp I have eaten in a very long time. The store has local boiled peanuts and southern style cakes. Crazy good. read more

Love this place, has a great selection of items. Love they have those "hard to find" items. I have found multiple local honey to choose from. To day I went hunting for elderberry syrup , and yes they had it. I have purchased both fruit and vegetables here also. There a multiple cashiers to help you check out. My first time here and whoa, they had a lot! I've always heard about it from coworkers so I was glad to finally go. It's an old country store and fish market. There were a couple nice fishermen outside to greet us. We didn't get any seafood but I'll have to remember to stop here to get it. Inside the general store there are classic iconic candies, sodas, sauces, and so much more. You can even get scooped ice cream here, pick out fresh produce and buy your fishing worms. This would be a great place to get locally made edible gifts! read more

Wow! Excellent place to shop for fresh seafood! Great prices! I bought a box with 10 pounds of snow crab legs - at $99 for the entire box. The crab legs were amazing! Also bought lump crab meat for $33 a pound and some of the largest shrimp I have ever purchased. They had to be 10-15 count. I can't wait to stop by here again and load up during my next trip to Wilmington. Bring your cooler...they will pack it with your purchase and lots of ice! They also have a cute country store with lots of great old time snacks. I also purchased corn on the cob and fresh cantaloupe and every thing was so fresh and tasty! Worth the trip!! read more

I love this place! They sell fresh seafood and oysters. They also have great pricing. I love how huge their selection of local honey and local goods is. They have many jars of pickles items, salsas, hot sauces, jams, etc. They also have a great selection and pricing on elderberry syrup. If you like hoop cheese they have it, too! This is quickly becoming a regular stop for us. I'll admit that I don't really buy anything other than their oysters. But when you find a place that has the best of something you love at the right price and with great service, why would you go anywhere else, right? I typically just buy a peck and that takes care of me for the weekend. I bring my cooler so the guys can just throw them in there after they clean em off. But, if you don't have a cooler don't fret. They bag them up and will put them in a box for you, no extra charge. So, in conclusion...buy your oysters at Eagle Island. read more

So, I'm not a local so that's one reason I probably wasn't as impressed as I could have been. Was in Wilmington visiting a client and thought it would be neat to pick up some fresh seafood for dinner back in Raleigh. The selection wasn't bad, but all I saw was fish. No crab, shrimp, etc. and all the fish were whole but gutted. It would be nice and I would pay more for properly filleted fish. It smelled fishy, but I guess its supposed to. Struck me like a BBQ joint with a poor sanitation rating - scary but almost guaranteed to be tasty. So if you know how to clean fish - this is likely your kindof place. read more

Eagle Island Seafood is the place where locals go. It has everything. I buy my Amish butter there and I'll never go anywhere else for it. They have a huge assortment of candy, bulk goods, yummy treats, and fresh produce. You can get just about anything you need for dinner at Eagle Island. It may look like nothing from the outside, but it's warm, hardware store like interior takes me straight back to my childhood buying gum balls and fireballs for a dime at the corner store. They always have something new for me to try. Whether is a new kind of picked veg or a grain I've never tried. It's always reliable. Their produce is fresh and their selection of fresh beans is always the best in town, butter beans, black eyed peas, field peas, they have them all. If you're looking for a great spot to pick up all the necessities for your next bbq, then this is the place to go! read more

Could very well be one of my favorite places in town. This is THE place to get oysters. Ice cream, oysters, pickled whatever you can put in a jar, fish, hoop cheese, peanuts, collards, pumpkins, plants, oh my! Did I mention old time glass soda bottles in metal cooler with roll away lids? How about the market cats? No? The wooden floors? The fishing bait? The cajun peanuts sold in little bags by the register? The baskets of penny candy? This place gets jamming when oyster season arrives and when the youth soccer practice is over in the evenings. Actually, it's crowded pretty often, but that's part of the charm. I think there would be a hole in my heart if this place ever closed. read more

Eagle Island Seafood is just another reason I love living in Wilmington NC. This place reminds me of the street markets I grew up going to in Brooklyn NY. From everything to the fresh fruit and vegetables to the seafood and hand dipped ice cream. The only difference is that all the things I find at EIS were spread out over a 3 block span in Brooklyn. It's a treat for me to walk the tight aisles checking out the variety of items offered in this unexpected gem. Oh yeah, today I bought shrimp, fish, green tomatoes, seafood breading a lemon and made this...Fried green tomatoes, fried shrimp and fried fish..."Fryday Friday". The best little hole in the wall general store/seafood market you never know you live next to. If you've ever lived near the Amish or over excited canning grannys, this is the place for you. In addition to the seafood hut which has Popeyes, corvina, flounder, catfish, I could go on but I won't except get the striped bass. We prefer to buy them whole but they can be cleaned also by the staff. Thanks to the enormous amount of delicious pickled foods, we now have a compromised top fridge shelf of pickled okra, green beans, marinated mushrooms and the like that were too good to pass up. All of the produce is local, the ice cream is hand scooped and like a true general store you can find anything from tomatoes to batteries to fly tackle and even some frozen friggin' rabbits if you like. 10/10 love this little oasis. read more

Come here for the fresh seafood. They have decent prices and one of the best selections of truly fresh seafood in the entire area. Tip: buy fish whole and fillet them yourself. We put the fish heads and scraps in our crab trap and catch our next dinner this way. ;-) Why only four stars instead of five? Sadly, their fresh fruits and veggies aren't the best. read more

Eagle Island Seafood is a one stop shop for all kinds of items. They have an enormous wall of homemade canned items from jams to pickled eggs. They also have a great deal of produce. I crossed the bridge into Brunswick Co for the seafood. The oysters are priced very reasonable and are super fresh. They come from a variety of oyster beds which are listed so you know where they are coming from when you make your selection. I also purchased shrimp and scallops. They were very fresh and so delicious. I lived in Wilmington from 5 years and did not know about Eagle Island. This will be my go to seafood provider when I am in this region. read more

Super expensive fish and the ladies in the fish market (despite their niceness) don't know how to filet. I asked for a 3 lb flounder and after 'fileting' it all I received was 1 lb of fish, with skin. Wonder why the owners don't hire experienced people to do the job. I had been a few times before and loved the place all of the local foods and produce as well as the variety of candies. Had never gotten any seafood from there. We ordered 3 dozen clams and a pound of shrimp for fathers day meal. It is partially our fault for not checking but they tie the bags up so you can't easily check. They shorted us a dozen clams. The ones we got and the shrimp were very good but will probably not get any seafood from them unless able to check the bags. read more

Great local fish and veg market. They have everything. All the fixins for a fish fry. Most of the items they sell are local and everyone is so friendly. Fish (shrimp heads on are fantastic!), farm stand, home made canned stuffs. Picked okra (best I've found in Wilmington), garlic and eggs. Jams and spreads. Cheese and ice cream. Why go to whole foods or HT when you can buy fish where the locals by fish. Just a short drive right across the river. You'll be glad you did! read more
