There are certain moments in life when you wonder if things will ever get better. When we made the difficult decision to send our son to Eagle Ranch Academy, our family was really hurting emotionally, mentally and in many other ways. We loved our son deeply, but, despite our very best efforts over an extended period of time, we knew he needed help that we simply couldn't provide on our own, primarily with overcoming video gaming and screen addiction, participating in illegal substances; theft, declining grades, lack of positive and productive activity, extreme disrespect, and an unwillingness to take responsibility and accountability for almost everything. It was one of the hardest decisions we've ever made as parents. Looking back now, we can honestly say it was one of the best decisions we have ever made both for him and for us. From the moment our son arrived, the staff at Eagle Ranch Academy embraced him with patience, compassion, and genuine concern and caring. They didn't see him as a problem to be fixed--they saw a wonderful young man with tremendous potential who simply needed guidance, structure, and people who believed in him. What touched us most was knowing that the staff truly cared, especially the Clinical Director, his incredible Therapist, and those who led the seminars. They celebrated his successes, encouraged him through setbacks, held him accountable with kindness, and never gave up on him. We could tell they weren't just doing a job--they were investing their hearts in the lives of these young people every single day. Following the program and principles at ERA, we watched our son, little by little, begin to change. His confidence grew. He became more responsible, more respectful, and more thoughtful. He learned to believe in himself again. The young man who came home was stronger emotionally, more mature, and equipped with tools that will bless him for the rest of his life. But the miracle didn't stop with our son. Eagle Ranch Academy helped heal our entire family. The weekly phone conversations with our son and the on-site Parent Seminars with other parents were absolutely amazing! They taught us better ways to communicate, to listen, to encourage, to set appropriate boundaries, and to rebuild trust. Relationships that had become strained began to heal, and our home became a place of greater peace, love, and hope. We are a stronger family today because of what we learned together. Our son has also participated in sharing with other youth his journey and many of the principles he learned at ERA. As parents, there is no greater gift than seeing your child discover who they are capable of becoming. We will always be grateful to the remarkable men and women at Eagle Ranch Academy who believed in our son during a time when he desperately needed someone to believe in him. I did a ton of reseach in helping a friend find help for her daughter. I saw the change when she sent her child to Eagle Ranch. It's unfortunate anyone can post anything online, and we did read some of the negative, but decided to find out for ourselves. By visiting, by talking with current and former parents, and compared with variety of other programs. The truth is, there is no other place like this. Many of the employees have been with them for years. They really care about the kids. I would recommend this program for anyone whose child is struggling. This program, these people are the real deal. in a sea of false promises, hidden agendas where many programs are doing more harm than good, Eagle Ranch is a life raft of safety and TRUE support. I thought I would write this review while we are in mid program. Im not writing this to say they have "fixed" my child, I know our family is going to have a long journey no matter what. What I hope to share with anyone who reads this is that this is a place you can trust. We have been to many, many residential programs and have a great deal of experience behind this statement, and I am also a Psychotherapist by profession. What makes ERA valuable? They say what they mean, mean what they say. The owner is not a distant, hands off, corporate individual, he is sitting in an office and working with the teens all day like everyone else and so is his lovely wife. My precious kiddo is being CARED for and respected, while she's being held accountable and challenged. A blend of loving and no nonsense that is exactly what our population needs. There is a "real life" element to ERA that is unique to other RTCs, including the co-ed component which is really helping our daughter. The finances are fair and they will do everything they can to help. The teens are BUSY all the time with meaningful activities. this is not an expensive babysitting, lip service, running the clock place. it's an industrious beehive of intentional activity designed solely to help heal and equip our kids for life. Lastly, academics. After 2 years of school refusal, apathy, no personal agency over her academics, our daughter is ENGAGED with learning again. I am a victim of this institution. Eagle ranch likes to portray itself as an extensive care program for troubled teens but it's far from that and anyone who has any experiences here would tell you the same thing. Eagle Ranch Academy is nothing but a scam for parents who are having a hard time understanding their kid and how the world has changed since their time. (Remember everything that happens between the ages 12-18 is how the brain wires itself to respond to emotions and making risky decisions.) My parents were paying $7500 a month for two years, for treatment and care that didn't exist. While others were paying just $1000. I'll admit looking back at my teenage years I wasn't the best son, but this camp definitely caused more problems than it solved. I turned 22 this January and I live across the country from my family that lives in California, I am only now starting to talk with them again. They sent me away because I was 14 years old sneaking out to go to party's, smoking weed, and would occasionally get in fights with my parents that sometimes would escalate to yelling and objects being broken. It feel though that if I had just had an EXPERIENCED THERAPIST (the experience doesn't come from college) that actually wanted to help and could recognize the triggers, signs and had ways of touching on the topic with in person sessions a lot of my family's problems could have been resolved without this money hungry hell hole. During my time at eagle ranch we were starved every weekend because of how cheap this place is ran not to mention all the food is bought from Sysco and the weekday cook would take anything of quality home with her and if you ever got caught trying to get more food to eat they'd call it an intervention and serve you even less food just for being hungry. (I remember being 105 pounds and getting tunnel vision every time they'd make us workout) This place also has a notorious history of not doing background checks and hiring criminals especially the ones who happen to be friends with everyone their already. He requested often to get moved to a different room because of the horrific things he had to witness. Don't come on here and try to minimize my review. I trusted that the school was doing their job correctly until another transition nurse informed me that his medication was too much. If you are a parent looking for help for your kid I promise you there are better places. this is not coming from a bitter child, this is coming from someone who has to live with everything that I endured at ERA. Please look I to other options. They do not care about your children. If there are issues going on you cannot tell your parents. They will cut off communication from them. They will lie to create more issues that they have to "fix". Their level system is near impossible to complete. They dont care about medical issues. I am still recovering from a botched MINOR surgery that they performed while I was there because they refused to take me to a real doctor. Every person I know from my time here has relapsed back onto old behaviors. I am not telling you that the residential treatment centers everywhere are bad. I am telling you that ERA is not where you send your child to get better. The seminars are humiliation rituals designed to make you "vulnerable" to more treatment. But really all they do is brainwash you and humiliated you and cause both students and staff to hold things over your head while you are there. Please do more research and please please please listen to the negative reviews that people will put. As someone who does not generally place much credence in reviews others write nor am I one to leave a review myself, after what I have experienced the past several years with my daughters mental health struggles, I decided it warrants a very honest review of Eagle Ranch Academy in the hopes that it can benefit other parents who are going through similar experiences. There is no doubt that witnessing your child's struggle and the attempt to figure out the treatment / medication regiment required is one of the most difficult things a parent can go through. What's even worse is deciphering which programs are the best fit for our children's needs coupled with the question of whether insurance will cover it and can I afford it. My daughter was hospitalized several times and each short-term hospitalization resulted in different medication being prescribed with very little beneficial results - and in some instances, being prescribed the absolute wrong medication thereby worsening the condition. The so-called stabilization hospitals do very little as far as addressing the long-term needs of the child and the insurance companies generally pressure the facilities to release the child very soon after "stabilization." This is a vicious cycle with no real long-term effects. Even when it was time to try and find a residential treatment program, I enlisted the services of a "professional placement counselor" who proceeded to take my money without providing any realistic placement options. Following that, my daughter went to a "residential treatment school" that only accepted cash payments, circumvented all the state rules by not having any licensed professional staff on the payroll nor any licensed teachers at the facility and had the audacity to contact me while I was out of the country to pick my daughter up from the school early because of their "inability to handle her," threatened to put her on a plane alone if I didn't pick her up and proceeded to keep her tuition money. Let's fast forward to Eagle Ranch Academy. Through some of the dark chapters there were a few shining lights and through a series of meeting a few wonderful and dedicated professionals, I was fortunate enough to be referred to Eagle Ranch. The program is fantastic and after years of not knowing how I was going to get through my daughter's painful struggle, their program has changed both our lives in the months that she has been there and I will be forever grateful. The feeling of getting your child back to a place we once were is something words cannot describe. After years of misdiagnosis and being taken advantage of, I will admit I was skeptical of any program at first however I was told to have faith in Eagle Ranch's program and they were right. The program works and takes time but the staff is dedicated and understanding and truly strives to achieve results for the kids as well as provide outstanding support for the parents. As I stated earlier, this is the first time I have written any type of online review but if I can help just one parent achieve the results that Eagle Ranch Academy was able to get for my daughter, it will have been worth it. read more
