I went to school here and received my associate and bachelor degree. Great professors that are really nice who want all students to do well! Price for school isn't horribly expensive, however college isn't cheap. I would suggest this university to anyone looking for a great education, great area to live in!! read more

We toured this school last summer. The staff was professional and not pushy. The mechanic shop & class areas were clean and welcoming. The program was very appealing. We were disappointed to find out that there were no openings until January. My son ended up in Arizona at another Tech school. read more

Disclaimer: This review applies ONLY to the stadium. What a joke. The 'ADA compliant' section represents about a 30 foot area for people with wheelchairs, canes, etc. It's elevated off the field by no more than 3 feet. And there's no other way to access the general seating except through stairs. So, if you're using a walker, cane or wheelchair, you're out of luck. Oh, and even though there are a half dozen golf carts to get people who are mobility-challenged to the 30 foot compliance seating area, no one was manning them during today's regional Bands of America championships. And if you've ever been to a marching band competition, you know that being seated 3-4 feet above the field level guarantees that you can't fully appreciate the experience - you can't see the band's movements, formations, etc. Today was a complete disappointment. The bands were incredible. The view and seating wasn't. Apparently, this stadium was built in 1985 (Dixie University web site). That's sad. I have been in High School stadiums in the early 80s that were significantly more compliant than Dixie University's stadium is today, 35+ years later. read more

If there was a zero, this would have been what I would have rated this college. A full-time student may have a better experience, but I took an online course with a person who claimed to be a professor, who was actually just a joke of an instructor. Her name was Julie Davies. This person who teaches an online course at this "university" thinks she is not only better than everyone else, but is very unprofessional, very insecure and does not have any ability to teach, only having the ability to criticize, both unfairly and while being completely pompous and vindictive. I would NEVER, NEVER take ANY class from this "instructor" nor would I EVER recommend anyone spending $1 dollar for her class. read more

Dixie State as a whole is a great school. My review is meant for the academic advisors front desk. I have called several times and every time the guy answers in the most annoyed voice I've ever heard- doesn't say hello, or what his name is and is just SO rude. I get that a lot of students work within campus but when you work customer service, you need to treat people like HUMAN BEINGS. I'm bugged, that's all. read more

If you want a University that is growing to accommodate all of the needs of the students but yet feels safe. This is the spot. It looks like many bad ratings are because of a bad move that the President made, but as far as a students perspective. This President has made Dixie State feel like a five star campus. Big student center. Great buildings, awesome sport facilities, construction going on all the time showing signs of expanding and updating constantly. Love this school! read more

Pros * Teachers - Some great staff work at the university * Spacing - You can get anywhere within a 5 minute walk on campus * Weather - Unless you go to summer school, the weather is amazing. * Things to do - Mesquite (Gambling, Golfing, 4.99 Ham Steak and Eggs), Vegas and Lake Mead, Mountains (Kolob, Panguitch), Desert Beauties (Zion, Bryce Canyon, Snow Canyon) Cons * Student Government / Activities - Basically reflects the standards of middle school activities. Most are boring and a waste of time. * Cops - Saint George PD is out and about. They find excuses to pull you over at night. Every house party with a lot of cars in front of it seems to have a noise complaint. * Athletics - No one goes to the games and it is just a glorified high school event. read more

I'd probably give this 4 stars because it's not perfect but it's adequate. However I'm giving DSU a 5 star to offset at least one of the idiotic one star reviews especially the last one that refers to race. Just because you join something doesn't mean you get to win regardless of race so leave that BS at the door. Just because a "blonde hair blue eyed" girl won doesn't make your point valid. If I went to Howard or Grambling and didn't win a beauty contest and claimed "another black skinned person won" would make me a racist right ? Anyway, as far as my time here, it's typical of any school. You meet cool people, observe dolts who shouldn't be there , have great professors and professors that shouldn't be teaching at all. Other than the biff one stars every other one star is completely idiotic. It's a good school to have and it is what you make of it. read more

Awesome university. Very very beautiful campus. The staff is very good at what they do. The facilities are ALWAYS clean. The intramural program is a lot of fun and really well put together. The student body is really involved in school sports and everything that the campus puts on. The classes are all small so the professors are able to spend quality time with each individual student. The tuition is INSANELY low for how quality the education and experience is. All in all, I've been a part of 5 different universities and this one by far beats all of them. The couches in the dorms were tiny, uncomfortable, flat out unacceptable. There is no way you could fit 6 people let alone two on this tiny under budget sofa. The T.V is impossible, you have to bring an HDMI cord to get it to even turn on. After that you need a remote that is not provided. The only semi-decent thing about these dorms is the beds are pretty comfortable. The balcony is also nice. But other than that, could use some work. read more

My experience with Dixie is a little outdated...but in conversations with more recent and current students it sounds like things haven't changed much. I attended in 2005. When I attended, I had recently graduated high school. I felt that the college (which it was at the time) felt like a high school. It's hard to pinpoint the root of this. I think ultimately the attitude of students, even the relationship between professors and students made it feel like High School Part II. It may have been because no one I know really gave the school much respect -- it's just the party school. I'm not really sure, but this sentiment has been shared by most of those who I've spoken with. I know they offer a lot in regard to sports, and the climate is pretty great, though it's hot in the summer (but who goes to summer school anyway??). St. George itself is a beautifully maintained city, but it doesn't have a lot outside of movie theatres and hiking. Hiking is certainly plentiful and scenic. No wonder it's a party school! What else is there to do for fun other than party? Oh, and drive to Vegas...or Mesquite. read more

This is the 3rd year my daughter competed in the D-queen pageant. Now mind you they don't have any minority Queen's nor they will never have one. She did Awesome and spent so much time, money and energy. She didn't even place the only reason they wanted her to compete is to add a preference, so they can have a black girl on stage and yep no surprise another blond hair blue eyed girl won! What a joke and the face they used my daughter and that she had a chance. read more

As a graduate of the performing arts department and an active musician in the area, I am so disappointed in DSU for firing not one but three of my friends and colleagues. The human resource practices here are extremely questionable, and I would recommend checking out programs and professors carefully before committing. Also know that your professors could be gone at any moment. Have fun trying to do your senior recital without your teacher. read more

Firing faculty without cause or justification halfway through a semester is not conducive to a safe learning environment. The administration doesn't give us answers as to why and refuses to hear our concerns on the matter. I used to love this school and enjoyed coming to class everyday. Now I just hope to survive and graduate this semester (spring 2018). Honestly, if I wasn't so close to graduation I would transfer out. If you or a your child is thinking about attending this University, trust me when I say there are far better options out there. read more

I absolutely love this university. The campus life is amazing and there are countless ways to get involved and have fun. The Holland library and Human Performance Center buildings are super nice and there are brand new buildings like the SET going up as well! It's cool to see this university grow so much and I've loved being part of it, even though I'm only a freshman here. I feel so connected to campus and everyone here, it's the best. We also became Division 1 this year so all the athletic games and events are a blast to go to! Student Government also puts on weekly activities that are so fun and you get to meet lots of new people! They also give away awesome prizes like airpods, TV's, mini fridges, and more! Not to mention DSU is located in beautiful St. George and is surrounded by so many amazing places like Zion! I totally recommend this school to anyone, best university in Utah in my opinion! read more

Every time I talk to the people that work at this college, it's like talking to an untrained chimp. And this is what "higher education" feels like...? I've had multiple interactions with this school but I'll just share one experience I know photoshop. In fact, I'm pretty damn good at it. So I figured why don't I just take a certification test instead of trying to learn something I already know. After calling the college about 20 times about it, they finally got me in contact with the computer lab. And most of my interactions with the lab was through email and took the course of a month. The lab told me that the college purchases their tests from third party companies that offer their tests. They even said that there were a wide diverse number of companies they purchased tests for. When I asked for the list of companies, they gave me one link to one company. So I took a look at the certification test and it was unreasonably priced. So I asked for the rest of the list. And so they supplied me to a link. I click on it, and it showed me the hours the computer lab opens and closes on the Dixie College/University/whatever website. So I informed them they must have been confused and told them that a "diverse" number of companies that they purchase tests from typically means at least more than 1-10. So they told me I needed to click on a link in the link they supplied me. So I clicked on that and the page explained what the computer lab is used for (taking tests. Which is what I wanted). So I asked for the list again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. Every time after the first link they supplied was one moronic experience after another. So Dixie College/University... or whatever this untrained chimp thing is... only purchases tests from a diverse ONE number of companies. I understand my request was unconventional. But I never feel like I'm interacting with the best and brightest... just a bunch of morons. And morons is actually more of a compliment than what I'd like to call them. Because whatever word... whatever sound that functions as a symbol to point at what it is I feel about this College/University doesn't really exist yet but it's down there in the dirt. Colling this place a University seems like more of an insult to Universities. And calling this place a College seems an insult to Colleges. read more

I loved my time at this university, but now tenured professors are being fired left and right. It's created a frightening atmosphere. I hope the best for the rest of the faculty that are left. We went to Dixie State every year since my sophomore year in college to play their baseball team. They have a really good team and a nice facility. Their baseball field is called "Bruce Hurst Stadium" and they have a really nice score board and tall fences. Center field is 410 ft I believe and the corners are soething like 325 ft and 350 ft. Despite their tall fences, the air is really light so homeruns are a common thing. This place is an actual stadium because the team shares it with a semi-pro team. I would recommend coming to see the pregame introductions, their PA and sound system is amazing. read more

As someone that paid a lot of money for private college in another state, I was excited to when my kids had an opportunity to go to DSU for free while in High School. I found however for the most part DSU is not that much different then the local high schools. In fact almost all of my kid's high school teachers also teach at DSU. These teachers hold a bachelors degree, rarely a masters and are juggling 250+ high school students and then try to go teach another 100-200 students at DSU. Something suffers, there is just no way a English or History teacher can grade 350-500 papers at a time. Last year I checked in a DSU concurrent enrollment program in computer science and I found the DSU staff that was pushing the program to be very unrealistic. They were pushing St George as being the next big tech city and that students would learn to develop apps and that the school is all about being an entrepreneurs. The classes were nothing more then online instruction in a classroom with a professors monitoring students, no real instruction. DSU seemed out of touch with the parents and students attending who for the most part hope and want a college education to result in a good job with benefits that allows their kid to buy a home and raise a family. Both my kids could have attended after high school for free but I would not let them go here even for free. Besides the hit and miss teaching quality, there is just not a campus feel. For the number of students, the student union, food options, health center are all so small again more like what you would find at a large high school then a college with almost 10,000 students. I have watched so many kids start school here and even though the cost of the tuition is cheap the cost of living is so high, they cut back to part time and then drop out. Unless you have family to live with rent is very high, and then you will need a car(parking is BAD on campus) and students start working more and more to pay basic bills. Construction jobs seem to lure away the young men, getting $20-25 a hr for construction jobs is a higher wage then most jobs you get with a DSU degree. Unless you want to leave the area, most degrees are useless from DSU (healthcare/some teaching degrees are the useful ones). My husband's friend was looking to hire a $10/hr secretary and had over 60 DSU business grads apply for the job. The low cost might look appealing but please look at the entire picture when considering this school. Look at the housing, the professors that will teach your kids, the healthcare(if from out of state PLEASE research healthcare before attending, SG might have big medical buildings but the lack specialists and urgent care is minimal), and the graduation rates. I do feel there are other inexpensive options in Utah like SUU, UVU, USU, that seem to have better campus like and better academic programs without breaking the bank. read more

Dixie State University was a great place to go to school. The professors were able to spend personal time with students to make sure they understood the material. However, being a smaller university there were limitations to the quality of the education. Overall, I got my money's worth from DSU. read more

I can tell you that no matter what school you go to you won't have fun if you don't do anything. Most of the bad reviews are from people who didn't last long. Dixie state is amazing and does so much for their students. Events, concerts, DJs, dances, casino nights, Super Bowls parties, free food, brand new facilities, weekly events, multicultural inclusion center, volunteer opportunities, community classes, great resources for help with everything including resumes, papers, and math homework. Amazing teachers and staff. I graduated here and loved every moment of it. The only negatives I've come across are that they are doing so many updates to the school and it's facilities that I've heard some comments about people being irritated with where some of the funding goes. The fact of the matter is, if you stay involved you will do better in school, make plenty of friends, and have an amazing time. read more

Ive been a student a Dixie for 1 1/2 years. There are highs and lows about the college. Transferring from a community college, I thought it would have more of a University feel. Not much Dixie Spirit.. So, i gave it 3 stars to even out the pros and cons. Start with the cons. Dixie is not at all as organized as a community college. Needs alot to be updated but working on it. NO math lab anymore booo. The only food services are expensive and when open, lack freshness. Students could get involved more. Buyback program is a bummer because I rarely get any money back. Now the pros. Prices are very reasonable. I do feel safe here, and so does my vehicle in the parking lot. Teachers are great, especially my math teacher Craig Seegmiller. Most, except Digennero, care about the students enough to give additional help when needed. The good ones need a raise! Thank you Dixie for the border waiver, like that scholarship program.
